Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for supporting a boot on a ski, in particular but not exclusively an alpine ski.
- the invention also relates to a ski binding equipped with such a support device.
- a shoe is generally held on an alpine ski by fastening elements which retain its ends in a triggerable way, that is to say which release one or the other of the ends when it exerts an excessive stress.
- the ends of the shoe also rest on support devices or support plates.
- support devices or support plates To facilitate the release of the shoe, low friction bearing plates are generally used.
- the support plate used for the front end is coated with a lining of anti-friction material, in particular polytretrafluoroethylene (which will be designated in the following PTFE).
- anti-friction material in particular polytretrafluoroethylene (which will be designated in the following PTFE).
- this lining on its support is a relatively delicate operation because of the non-stick properties of PTFE.
- this assembly must withstand the climatic conditions in which the fastening elements evolve, snow, ultra-violet rays, temperature changes, etc.
- French patent application published under the number 2,533,832 describes the bonding of such PTFE packing using a double-sided adhesive or an adhesive of cyanoacrylate or acrylic isocyanate type.
- the PTFE has undergone a surface pre-treatment on its underside, for example a treatment with sodium naphthalene or sodium ammonia.
- fillers are incorporated into the material of the wafer to delay the penetration of ultraviolet rays, and to delay deterioration of the bonding.
- One of the objects of the invention is to provide a support device for a shoe, the anti-friction lining of which is assembled without bonding and is firmly held on its support.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a support device whose assembly of the lining on its support is very simple.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a support device whose shape of the upper surface can be easily shaped.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a support device for which the anti-friction qualities are very good.
- the support device has a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) plate, and it is characterized in that the PTFE plate is assembled by direct contact and intimate surface bonding on a thermosetting rubber support during a molding and vulcanization operation of said support.
- PTFE polytetrafluoroethylene
- Figure 1 is a general perspective view of a front attachment equipped with a support device according to a first non-limiting embodiment of the invention.
- Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the support device of Figure 1.
- Figure 3 is a view which illustrates the manufacturing method of the support device.
- FIGS 4 to 7 show alternative embodiments of the invention.
- FIG. 8 illustrates another variant of the invention.
- Figure 1 shows in perspective a front binding 1.
- the binding 1 comprises a binding element 2 and a support device 3 for the sole of the shoe.
- the fastener is of any suitable type, and will not be described in detail. Overall, it comprises a base 4, surmounted by a body 5. The body 5 carries rearwardly a jaw 6 for retaining the shoe. The binding 1 is assembled to the ski by any suitable means, for example screws 6 which pass through holes in the base.
- the support device 3 is attached to the base which it extends backwards. This is not, however, limiting, and the support device could be isolated, or associated with any other element.
- the support device has in its upper part an anti-friction lining 7 which is produced from a polytetrafluoroethylene plate (hereinafter referred to as PTFE).
- PTFE polytetrafluoroethylene plate
- the PTFE plate 7 is carried by a support 8 of overall rectangular parallelepiped shape to which it is assembled.
- a PTFE plate which has undergone on one of these faces a chemical pretreatment intended to facilitate its bonding.
- This pre-treatment is known.
- Raw PTFE may also be suitable.
- the plate can also be made of natural PTFE, or PTFE loaded with coloring pigments.
- the support and the PTFE plate are assembled to the rest of the fixing by any suitable means.
- the support rests on a base plate 10, the front part of which engages under the base of the binding and is secured thereto.
- a covering and retaining cover 11 also covers the support 8 and the plate 7.
- the cover has an opening 12 whose dimensions correspond to the plan dimensions of the assembly formed by the support 8 and the plate 7. It has a height less than that of the support, so that the PTFE plate 7 protrudes above the cover.
- the cover is assembled to the base plate by any suitable means, and for example by elastic deformation, by means of claws which engage in corresponding housings of the base plate.
- the support 8 has in its lower part rims 13, 14 which are housed in corresponding recesses 15, 16 of the cover.
- the PTFE plate descends along the edges and edges 13 and 14 of the support 8.
- the plate is thus trapped along at least two of its edges by the assembly of the cover, which makes it less vulnerable to tearing in these areas.
- the PTFE plate has a relief on its upper surface. According to Figures 1 and 2, this relief is formed according to two beads 18, 19 elongated, which extend in a transverse direction.
- Figure 2 shows that in fact, the PTFE wafer follows the relief that its support 8 itself presents on its upper surface.
- the relief of the PTFE plate leads to a reduction and fragmentation of the contact surface between the support device and the shoe sole. It is believed that such a fragmentation of the contact surface reduces the friction between the shoe sole and its support, and that it therefore improves the sliding performance of the support device.
- the support 8 is for its part made of a thermosetting material, more precisely of a thermosetting rubber.
- a thermosetting material is advantageous because, depending on the precise chemical composition and the embodiment of the thermosetting rubber, it is possible ultimately to obtain a relatively hard support plate 8 or, on the contrary, a relatively flexible support plate, with damping properties if necessary.
- a hard support plate provides firm support for the shoe, a flexible support plate contributes to comfort and shock absorption.
- thermosetting rubber allows direct assembly of the PTFE wafer 7, without glue. This assembly takes place by a surface chemical reaction at the time of vulcanization of the rubber, that is to say the last manufacturing operation which gives the rubber its shape and its final consistency.
- This operation generally takes place in a mold having the desired shape where a rubber bar is introduced, and which is heated for a determined time to activate the vulcanization reaction which causes the bread to expand in the volume of the mold. and its hardening.
- PTFE plate 7 it could be assembled with the support directly by an intimate surface connection. It has also been found that by placing a flat PTFE plate in a mold having a relief, the plate was deformed under the pressure of the rubber being vulcanized to match the shape of the wall of the mold.
- PTFE is in fact a relatively soft material which easily lends itself to deformation by folding and even by creep.
- Figure 3 schematically illustrates this manufacturing process. It represents a mold 20 in two parts, the part 22 inversely presenting the desired relief in the end, in this case the two preceding beads.
- a PTFE plate 23 is introduced into the mold, as well as a thermosetting rubber bar 24.
- the plate 23 has in a transverse direction a width substantially equal to the width of the mold cavity, and in a longitudinal direction a dimension greater than the overall dimension of the mold, taking into account the desired final shape.
- the mold is closed and heated to activate the vulcanization of the rubber.
- the rubber expands which pushes the PTFE plate against the wall of the mold, and ensures the assembly of the support and the plate, thus giving the assembly its final shape. It may be noted that the covering of the edges 13 and 14 by the plate 7 is carried out during this operation.
- Such a manufacturing process advantageously makes it possible to produce any form of relief.
- Figures 4 to 7 show by way of illustration different forms of relief that can be produced.
- the PTFE plate is deformed according to two transverse chevrons 26.
- the PTFE wafer has a plurality of protruding pads 27.
- the relief is formed according to two curved beads 28, with a center of curvature which is located in the vicinity of the heel of the shoe.
- FIG. 7 schematizes a relief in embossing 29.
- FIG. 8 illustrates a variant according to which the support plate is produced in two layers having different properties.
- the upper layer 31 is relatively hard so as to give a firm and firm seat to the shoe.
- the lower layer 32 is thinner, more flexible with preferably damping properties. Its role is to absorb shocks and vibrations which pass between the ski and the boot during skiing.
- Such a support plate is obtained by superimposing in the mold several rubber bars which then mix intimately superficially with their contact zone.
