In fact, in this position , the screw of a conventional jack overflows from the pin 7 while that of the jack of Figure 1 is flush. Thanks to the geometry of reduced dimensions of the latter due to the retraction of the screw, it is possible to install it inside the contour 12 (shown in phantom) of the rim of a wheel of the vehicle.
- the jack When the jack has just been used to replace a vehicle wheel with the spare wheel, the jack is folded back into the low position, of maximum size, along the axis of the screw 10. In this position, it is not normally possible not install it in the rim of a wheel to store it there. It is therefore necessary, beforehand, to give it the shape shown in FIG. 1 so that its size along the axis of the screw becomes less than the diameter of the contour 12. To do this, it is necessary to turn the screw 10 again to unfold it sufficiently, which is long and tedious.

- the jack is brought back to the low position shown in FIG. 3. Throughout the descent of the jack, the axle 11 'remains in abutment with the straight ends of the buttonholes due to the weight of the vehicle which tends to move the connecting rods 3.5 away from the connecting rods 4.6. In the position of FIG. 3, the longitudinal dimensions of the jack are too large for it to be possible to place it on the removed wheel, within the limits of the rim 12 of this wheel, before storing the assembly in a vehicle housing provided for the spare tire. For this operation to be possible, the jack must have the geometry shown in FIG. 4, where its size along the axis of the screw 10 is made less than the diameter of the rim 12.
- the jack is passed from the geometry of FIG. 3 to that of FIG. 4, by a simple manual pull exerted between the head 1 and the base 2 in the direction of the arrows F, so that the axis 11 'slides over the entire length of the buttonholes 13 to come into abutment on the left ends (from the point of view of FIG. 4) of these buttonholes, adjacent to the pin 7.
- the position of these ends is determined so as to define for the jack geometry suitable for its storage. The operation is easy and instant. It eliminates the long and tedious operation of the screw 10 which is necessary to bring the jack known in FIG. 1 into the suitable position.
- this position depends not only on the position of the left ends (from the point of view of FIG. 4) of the buttonholes 13 but also on the position of the axis 11 'on the operating screw 10, at the time where the jack is pulled to bring it into the position of FIG. 4. It will be understood that the position of this axis 11 'on the screw 10, at the end of the descent of the jack, after a change of wheel (FIG. 3 ), is substantially constant, except for a few crank turns. The necessary tolerance to be provided for the precision of the jack's low position can easily be taken into account by an adequate dimensioning of the latter.
- the pin 7 must be pierced transversely with a non-threaded hole for the passage of the screw 10 when the jack is maneuvered to pass into its high position (see FIG. 2), this hole also having to accommodate a flat formed at the left end of the screw to prevent it from coming out of the axis 11 'in the low position ( Figure 3).

- the connecting rods 4 and 6 are mounted on a part 17 through which the screw 10 passes in the vicinity of its stirrup 20 for rotating, using two joints 18,19 respectively, spaced apart like the axes 15,16. It is understood that this arrangement makes it possible to increase the height above the ground of the head of the jack, with constant maximum overall dimensions of the jack along the axis of the screw.
