Definitions
- the invention relates to a weft brake device for weaving machines, with a weft brake, which preferably consists of two brake parts, between which the weft thread is passed, with a braking motor that can be changed essentially continuously, with a programmable control unit as part of the weaving machine control, which is used in signal-transmitting There is a connection to the servomotor and to a dialog terminal that is connected to the control unit.
- a weft brake for weaving machines which aims to optimize the yarn or thread loading during weft insertion, i.e. to adapt the braking forces acting on the thread as optimally as possible to the entry conditions, e.g. those of shooter and rapier weaving machines, in order to avoid weft breaks and on the other hand, to allow proper weft insertion.
- EP 0 475 892 A1 discloses a thread brake for weaving machines with a brake band and a controllable brake body. Here the weft thread is guided between the brake band and the brake body.
- the brake body is actuated by a servomotor connected to a control and logic circuit. The rotary movement of the servomotor shaft is converted into a lifting movement of the brake body.
- a control program can be stored in a memory of the logic circuit, which generates a stroke curve optimally adapted to the yarn properties of the weft thread, for example.
- the stroke curve indicates the time course of the position that the braking surface of the brake body occupies.
- the lifting curve is determined by the control program stored in the logic circuit memory.
- the stroke curve of the thread brake and the course of the braking action on the weft thread are not flexible and cannot be optimally adapted to the conditions that are present over the duration of the weft thread entry, because the thread tension is not continuously compared with the actual value.
- the known thread brake cannot react to irregularities in the weft thread insertion. Weft breaks are therefore not excluded.
- the known thread brake is followed on the output side by a weft monitor, the task of which is to detect a break in the weft thread during the weft insertion.
- the weft monitor is in a signal-transmitting connection with the loom control.
- the thread monitor sends a signal to the weaving machine control, which then interrupts the weaving process. It is recognized as a disadvantage here that the known weft brake must necessarily be followed by a weft monitor in order to detect a weft break if necessary.
- the object of the invention is to provide a weft brake device including an electrically controllable weft brake, which allows the working speeds of the loom to be adapted and which exerts an optimum braking force on the weft thread in every phase of the weft insertion. Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to dispense with known, on the side of the weft insertion, provisions on the entry side for detecting weft breaks.
- the object is achieved according to the invention in that the electrically controllable weft brake, a thread tension sensor downstream of the weft brake and the control unit together form a device for self-regulating braking force on the weft brake.
- the thread tension sensor downstream of the weft thread brake determines the actual thread tension data during each weft thread entry and transmits this to the control unit equipped with the desired thread tension data.
- the actual thread tension value present at each point in time of weft insertion or, based on the weaving machine drive, the thread tension actual value for each angle of rotation of the main loom shaft is compared with the thread tension target value stored in the memory of the control unit. From the comparison, the control unit calculates the point in time for changing the braking force of the thread brake acting on the weft thread for the next following weft thread entry.
- the inventive device for self-regulating braking force consists of three components; an electrically controllable thread brake 1, a thread tension sensor 2 downstream of the thread brake and a programmable electronic storage and control unit 3 which is part of the weaving machine control 4. Sensor 2 is connected to control unit 3 in a signal-transmitting manner via line 5.
- the control unit 3 is in turn connected to the thread brake 1 in a signal-transmitting manner.
- the thread brake can preferably be a weft thread brake according to DE patent application P 43 06 911.8 which is known per se and can be actuated by means of a stepping motor. Any other controllable weft brake can also be operated with the solution according to the invention.
- the control unit 3 is connected to a dialog terminal 9 in a signal-transmitting manner via lines 7, 8.
- the yarn-specific parameters representing the particular yarn type to be processed are entered via the dialog terminal 9. This results in an internal adaptation of the control unit 3 to the yarn type to be processed, whereby the course of the tensile force "f" over the entry time "t" of the weft thread or over the number of degrees of rotation of the main loom shaft is specified as the setpoint of the control unit 3.
- the braking force curve of the thread brake that is adequate for the yarn-specific parameters is shown in FIG. 2 as a curve within the oscillogram. This curve is a reference curve for the subsequent weft entries of the same yarn type.
- the parameters of the thread tension over the entry time "t" are shown in the oscillogram according to FIG. 2.
- the braking force "f” acting on the weft thread during the weft thread insertion is plotted in grams on the abscissa.
- the time duration "t" of the weft thread entry is shown in milliseconds "ms" on the ordinate.
- the curve shows the maximum thread pulling load on the weft thread 10 (FIG. 1). This is the start time of the weft entry.
- the thread tension then decreases up to point 12 of the curve.
- This point is identical to the transfer of the weft thread from the rapier gripper (not shown) to the slave rapier (not shown) of a defenseless weaving machine. Subsequently, the thread tension increases again until it then drops to a value almost zero in point 13.
- the point 13 represents the end of the weft entry.
- the curve shown here represents the reference or setpoint curve of the thread tension forces acting on the weft thread over the entry time.
- the times at which extreme values of the thread tensile forces preferably occur are continuously determined over the weft thread insertion time. These extreme or actual values are fed to the control unit and compared with the target values. If deviations from the target / actual value comparison occur, the control unit 3 uses this to calculate the time and the amount of the brake stroke adjustment for the next following weft thread insertion and thus brings about an optimal adaptation of the weft thread braking force to the different course of the thread tension forces.

Description
The invention relates to a weft brake device for weaving machines, with a weft brake, which preferably consists of two brake parts, between which the weft thread is passed, with a braking motor that can be changed essentially continuously, with a programmable control unit as part of the weaving machine control, which is used in signal-transmitting There is a connection to the servomotor and to a dialog terminal that is connected to the control unit.
Known inter alia is a weft brake for weaving machines, which aims to optimize the yarn or thread loading during weft insertion, i.e. to adapt the braking forces acting on the thread as optimally as possible to the entry conditions, e.g. those of shooter and rapier weaving machines, in order to avoid weft breaks and on the other hand, to allow proper weft insertion.
EP 0 475 892 A1 discloses a thread brake for weaving machines with a brake band and a controllable brake body. Here the weft thread is guided between the brake band and the brake body.
The brake body is actuated by a servomotor connected to a control and logic circuit. The rotary movement of the servomotor shaft is converted into a lifting movement of the brake body.
For each thread brake, a control program can be stored in a memory of the logic circuit, which generates a stroke curve optimally adapted to the yarn properties of the weft thread, for example. The stroke curve indicates the time course of the position that the braking surface of the brake body occupies.
For each thread brake, the lifting curve, as stated above, is determined by the control program stored in the logic circuit memory.
However, this means that the stroke curve of the thread brake and the course of the braking action on the weft thread are not flexible and cannot be optimally adapted to the conditions that are present over the duration of the weft thread entry, because the thread tension is not continuously compared with the actual value. This means that the known thread brake cannot react to irregularities in the weft thread insertion. Weft breaks are therefore not excluded.
The known thread brake is followed on the output side by a weft monitor, the task of which is to detect a break in the weft thread during the weft insertion. For this purpose, the weft monitor is in a signal-transmitting connection with the loom control. If the weft thread breaks, the thread monitor sends a signal to the weaving machine control, which then interrupts the weaving process.
It is recognized as a disadvantage here that the known weft brake must necessarily be followed by a weft monitor in order to detect a weft break if necessary.
The object of the invention is to provide a weft brake device including an electrically controllable weft brake, which allows the working speeds of the loom to be adapted and which exerts an optimum braking force on the weft thread in every phase of the weft insertion.
Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to dispense with known, on the side of the weft insertion, provisions on the entry side for detecting weft breaks.
The object is achieved according to the invention in that the electrically controllable weft brake, a thread tension sensor downstream of the weft brake and the control unit together form a device for self-regulating braking force on the weft brake.
For this purpose, the thread tension sensor downstream of the weft thread brake determines the actual thread tension data during each weft thread entry and transmits this to the control unit equipped with the desired thread tension data.
In the control unit, the actual thread tension value present at each point in time of weft insertion or, based on the weaving machine drive, the thread tension actual value for each angle of rotation of the main loom shaft is compared with the thread tension target value stored in the memory of the control unit.
From the comparison, the control unit calculates the point in time for changing the braking force of the thread brake acting on the weft thread for the next following weft thread entry.
- Fig. 1
- Fig. 2
The device also proves to be advantageous because, with the continuous detection of the weft thread tension by means of the thread tension sensor arranged downstream of the brake, it is also determined that there may be a break in the weft thread in the inserted weft thread, since in this case the measured thread tension is known to be zero.
The highly sensitive weft monitor can therefore be dispensed with.
The weft monitor, which mostly works on the basis of the piezoelectric effect, is often exposed to external influences in weaving operations; the thread monitor interprets these influences as a weft break, which then inadvertently leads to an interruption of the weaving process. This inadequacy is also overcome with the invention Setup avoided.
The invention will be explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment.
The drawings show:
- Fig. 1
- a schematic representation of the device for self-regulating thread braking force,
- Fig. 2
- an oscillogram which represents the tensile force profile on the weft thread during a weft thread entry in a rapier weaving machine.
The inventive device for self-regulating braking force consists of three components; an electrically

The braking force curve of the thread brake that is adequate for the yarn-specific parameters is shown in FIG. 2 as a curve within the oscillogram. This curve is a reference curve for the subsequent weft entries of the same yarn type. The parameters of the thread tension over the entry time "t" are shown in the oscillogram according to FIG. 2.
The braking force "f" acting on the weft thread during the weft thread insertion is plotted in grams on the abscissa.
The time duration "t" of the weft thread entry is shown in milliseconds "ms" on the ordinate.
At
As already mentioned above, the curve shown here represents the reference or setpoint curve of the thread tension forces acting on the weft thread over the entry time.
