Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for unloading the walls of a plastic cabin, in which workpieces are coated by means of a powder spraying device, the powder being put under tension in the powder spraying device and the workpiece being earthed.
In plastic booths for the described purpose, the inner walls should be electrically neutralized from time to time for the following reasons: Not all powder particles are negatively charged in the powder spray device (spray gun). Rather, there is always a small proportion of oppositely charged particles, especially in the fine grain area. It follows that after a long period of operation Plastic cabin has a strongly adhering coating of uncharged and partially positively charged fine grain powder particles on the inside walls (the walls of the plastic cabin are negatively charged). When the cabin is cleaned from time to time, this covering is very difficult to remove, since when it is mechanically blown off it is immediately electrostatically attracted to the walls again and adheres to it again.
The covering partially compensates for the desired negative charge on the inner walls after long periods of operation. This reduces the so-called "trigger electrode effect" of the plastic walls, which normally repels the powder particles, which are also negatively charged, and thus directs them towards the grounded workpiece.
The invention has for its object to avoid the disadvantages mentioned and to provide a device of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, by means of which an effective removal or at least reduction of surface charges of the inner walls of the plastic cabin can be achieved.
This object is achieved in a device according to the preamble of claim 1 by an earthed metal frame to be inserted into the plastic cabin with tip electrodes pointing outwards towards the walls of the plastic cabin.
If it is a plastic booth in which the workpieces are moved through the plastic booth by means of an earthed conveying device, it is advantageous if the metal frame according to the invention has hooks or the like for attaching to the conveying device and for being carried along by it.
In a structural design, the metal frame is formed by two parallel perforated plates connected by struts, the circumferences of which the tip electrodes protrude on all sides. When the workpieces move through the plastic cabin, the perforated plates are arranged transversely to the direction of movement by means of the conveying device.
The tip electrodes are preferably arranged in the planes of the perforated plates, and each perforated plate can have a suspension bracket for hanging the frame on a conveyor.
A method for electrically discharging the walls of a plastic cabin has the features of
The method and the device according to the invention effectively discharge the inner walls of a plastic cabin, on which the very fine powder particles settle due to the static charge. Discharging the powder booth is particularly useful when changing colors. The discharge is not mechanical, but electrostatic using the tip electrodes on the metal frame moved by the plastic cabin. The tip electrodes, which are arranged at the smallest possible distance on the metal frame, suck off the charges as they move along the inner walls and thereby neutralize them.
The invention is explained below with reference to a drawing of an embodiment with further details.
The only figure shows a perspective view of a metal frame in a dash-dotted plastic cabin. All in all designated with the
Each
To unload the
In addition, bristles made of conductive plastic can be attached to the frame and establish a direct conductive connection to the cabin wall (not shown).
