Abstract

A description is given of a method and a device for cutting moving webs of paper or similar material. Here, the dust occurring during cutting is to be removed in an advantageous way. To achieve this object, an electrostatic collecting or removing device is provided. The advantage of the electrostatic removal or collection of the dust generated in cutting consists in the fact that the energy otherwise necessary for producing suction air for sucking off the dust is reduced. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method for cutting moving webs of paper or similar material, in which at least one cutting tool generates dust during cutting, which is removed from the cutting zone.
The invention also relates to a device for cutting moving webs of paper or similar material which releases dust when cutting, with at least one cutting tool and a device for removing dust from the cutting zone.

When cutting webs of paper or a similar material, e.g. B. cardboard or cardboard, especially of so-called environmental paper with its content of woody fibers and possibly ash, creates dust that - at least to a large extent - must be removed. The normal measures for removing dust are suction devices that pneumatically extract the dust accumulating in the cutting zones using suction air.
The object on which the invention is based is to provide a further possibility for removing dust. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the dust produced during cutting is separated electrostatically.
Further refinements of the method according to the invention can be found in the subordinate method claims.

The device mentioned at the outset is characterized by an electrostatic collecting device in the area of the cutting tool for the dust accumulating during the cutting. Further advantageous refinements of the device according to the invention can be found in the subordinate device claims.

The advantage of the invention over the above-mentioned prior art is that the electrostatic separation of dust is considerably less energy-intensive than the generation of suction air for the purpose of vacuuming the dust. The invention is particularly advantageous when cutting so-called environmental paper with its large amount of dust.

The invention is explained in more detail using exemplary embodiments.

Es zeigen:

Figur 1
Show it:
Figure 1
schematically a so-called cross cutter for cutting a web transverse to its direction of movement with an electrostatic separating device,
Figure 2
a so-called slitter for cutting a web in the direction of its movement with an electrostatic separator.

6 an denen Schneidmesser 7 bzw.
FIG. 1 shows a so-called cross cutter 1 known per se with two knife carriers rotating in accordance with the arrows 2 and 3 in the form of knife rollers 4 and 6, on which cutting knives 7 and 8, transversely to the direction of movement 9 of the web 11 to be cut, made of paper, cardboard or cardboard or similar dust are attached when cutting material. The knife rollers 4, 6 are driven by gear wheels 12 and 13, respectively, so that their knives 7 and 8 touch each other at the time of cutting, whereby they have the same peripheral speeds, and cut the webs 11 transversely to the direction of movement 9. Such a cross cutter is e.g. B. is known from US-A-4,392,402.
When cutting webs from the aforementioned materials, which can also consist of other material which releases dust when cutting, dust is produced which is to be removed on a separating or collecting device. According to the invention, the cutter rollers 4, 6 for separating / collecting the dust are assigned separating surfaces 16 and 17, respectively, which receive electrostatic charges from charge sources 18 and 19, respectively. The separating surfaces can consist of plastic material. The charge sources can be ionization sources, for example so-called ionization bars, as sold by Haug GmbH & Co. KG, D-2022, Echterdingen, DE. Alternatively, isolated metallic separation surfaces 16, 17 can also be provided, which are then each connected to a high-voltage source 18 or 19. The supplied charges attract the dust particles formed during cutting and cause them to migrate to the separation surfaces 16 and 17, from which they can be removed in a suitable manner. The separating surfaces 16 and 17 arranged above and below in FIG. 1, ie above the knife roller 4 and below the knife roller 6, can also be arranged to the side of the knife rollers in order to facilitate cleaning, e.g. B. by periodically tapping the dust.

FIG. 2 shows a so-called slitter 20, known per se, for a paper web 11, the cutting tool of which is designed as a circular knife arrangement 21. The latter contains two circular knives 27 and 28 driven by gears 22, 23 according to the arrows 24 and 26, respectively, which cut the web 11 from paper, cardboard, cardboard or another material which releases dust during the cutting in the direction of its movement 9. One of the circular knives 27, 28 need not be driven, but can run along empty. Such a slitter is known from US-A-4,257,298.
The slitter 20 has an electrostatic separating or collecting device for the dust produced during slitting. For this purpose, there are separating surfaces 29 and 31 on the side of the circular knives 27 and 28, which, like the separating surfaces 16 and 17, are made of plastic and can be provided with charges by charge sources 32 and 33 designed as ionization bars. The deposition surfaces can also consist of metal and receive their charges from a high voltage source. The dust particles produced during cutting are moved by the charges to the separation surfaces 29, 30, collected there and removed from there in a suitable manner.

According to the invention, transverse and longitudinal cutters can be provided in a cutting system, for example as is known from US Pat. No. 3,916,743. Even in such a case, the use of electrostatic separating or collecting devices of the type described in FIGS. 1 and 2 is possible both with the cross cutter and with the longitudinal cutter.
