Definitions
- Cable end caps are required to seal cut cable ends when laying cables. Above all, they are intended to prevent the ingress of water and moisture. Previous solutions to this problem are complex to manufacture and use. For example, a shrink cap is known which is shrunk onto the cable end at the construction site by means of hot air

- the inner diameter of the sealing element 4, formed by sealing beads 7, lies gas-tight and water-tight on the outer circumference 8 of a cable end 9 when the clamp 6 is tensioned.
- the bracket 6 is made of a thermoplastic, e.g. injection molded from PA 6.6 and consists of a band 20 with a radially projecting handle body 21, on one side of which the band 20 is formed as a tab 22 with sawtooth-shaped grooves 23 on the outside.
- a pusher 24 is formed on the opposite end of the band 20.
- the pusher 24 has a rectangular passage opening 25 for pushing the tab 22.
- a spiral spring 27 is formed on the pusher 24, which presses against the tab 22 and is in engagement with a tooth 26 with one of the grooves 23.
- a protruding nose 28 of the spring 27 facilitates the loosening of the tooth engagement.
- a flange 29 of the sealing element 4 is pressed against a flange 30 of the sleeve 3 by the snap-on mounting ring 10, for example made of HDPE.
- a circumferential projection 31 of the flange 30 ensures a reliable seal.
- the cable end cap 1 is pushed over the cut end of a cable 9 and the clamp 6 is then tensioned by pressing the push button 24 and the grip body 21 against one another.
- the clamp 6 enables an inner diameter reduction of the sealing element 4 of 6-8 mm, so that the end cap according to FIGS. 1-4 can be used for a corresponding diameter range of the cable 9.
- the sealing element 4 has internal, sawtooth-shaped sealing lips 44. It also consists of a soft elastomer and is the same Way connected to the sleeve 3 by means of the mounting ring 10.
- the inner diameter over the sealing lips 41 is approximately 2 mm smaller than the diameter of the cable end to be sealed.
- the elastic deformation of the sealing element 4 and the sealing lips 41 when pushed onto the cable end generates the necessary contact pressure on the cable sheath.
- the sawtooth profile of the sealing lips 41 reliably prevents the end cap from slipping off the cable end.
- the clamping force at the inlet diameter can be kept smaller by tapering the wall thickness and expanding the front sealing lip. This measure allows the cable diameter range to be expanded upwards (large cable diameters can also be inserted without problems).
- 1-4 can also be used in combination with the end cap 40 according to FIGS. 6 and 7, or in other applications where clips are required.
