Definitions
- the invention relates to a polishing and cleaning device, in particular for tableware and jewelry, according to the preamble of claim 1. It is a portable device for polishing, cleaning and / or deburring parts made of precious or semi-precious metals, especially for the care of silverware or jewelry.
- Known stationary or mobile machines of this type have a drum rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis in a trough of a table and an electric drive motor for the same and a transmission arranged between the trough and the drum, both of which are arranged next to the trough or under the table.
- the shaft coupled to the gear for rotating the drum passes through the end wall of the trough and has to be sealed at this point, which is cumbersome.
- there is a relatively deep trough and the removal of parts that get between the drum and the trough bottom, like cleaning the trough itself, is difficult.
- the drum rotating around the horizontal axis is separated just above the drive shaft into the lower part and upper part as a cover and is hermetically sealed for operation.
- the lower part of the drum is filled to the brim with polishing bodies such as steel balls of 2 - 5 mm 0 and with a soapy water or cleaning liquid to lighten the metal (deoxidation).
- polishing bodies such as steel balls of 2 - 5 mm 0
- a soapy water or cleaning liquid to lighten the metal (deoxidation).
- polishing balls When opening the lid, it can be expected that polishing balls will fall out of the polishing drum and must be collected again.
- the polishing material is pressed into the polishing ball mass, and through the Rotation of the drum creates a circulation of the balls, which roll over the polishing material, roll the scratched metal surface, smooth and compress and harden due to the global pressure of the polishing balls.
- the disadvantage of this process is that the effect of surface hardening on the polishing material is greatly reduced, the smaller the diameter of the drum.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of developing the known polishing and cleaning device in such a way that a favorable polishing and cleaning effect can be achieved with little effort.
- the invention is characterized by the technical teaching of claim 1.
- An essential feature of the invention is that the polishing drum is driven rotatably instead of horizontally, perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, which means that the distance of the walls of the polishing drum from the axis of rotation in the Y direction is greater than the distance of the walls on the axis of rotation in X- Direction, provided that the axis of rotation is driven to rotate in the Z direction.
- the polishing body which is freely movable in the polishing drum and also the soapy water contained therein, no longer experience a purely circular circulation, but instead perform an eccentric circular movement, with a knocking effect of the polishing balls being additionally generated in the reversal points of the circulation curve and so that the surface compaction of the polishing material is accelerated and possible even with small drum diameters with little global pressure of the balls.
- the longitudinal extension of the polishing drum in the Y direction is larger (longer) than the extension of the polishing drum in the X direction, the polishing bodies experience a gravitational force when the polishing drum rotates in the Z axis, which is aligned horizontally Acceleration downwards when the Y axis is vertical.
- the polishing bodies and the soapy water are accelerated less strongly if the polishing drum is perpendicular with its X axis, which produces the aforementioned eccentric circulation curve of the polishing bodies and the soapy water. Because of the favorable polishing effect due to the eccentric circulation curve which is achieved even at low speeds, vibrations on the chassis of the polishing drum are avoided and the stability of the device according to the invention is improved.
- the profile of the polishing drum can be varied within wide limits. So it is provided that the polishing drum is hollow cylindrical, or rectangular in cross section, hexagonal, oval or concave.
- the device shown has an angular frame 26 as a chassis, on which there is a metal support 23 for fixing the geared motor 25 + 25 and the two-sided mounting of the drive shaft 20 by the two flanges 15.
- the drive transmission from the geared motor 24+ 25 to the drive shaft 20 takes place via the V-belt 18.
- the polishing drum 6 is coupled on one side and perpendicular to its axis to the drive shaft end 20 without tools. This one-sided mounting shortens the overall length of the device by approx. 20% and simplifies the chassis of the device.
- the device can also be disassembled into two parts for rinsing the polishing bodies, changing the lye or transporting them.
- the polishing drum consists of a cylindrical trough 6, which can be hermetically closed at the upper edge by a flat cover 7 by means of two clamping elements 9 and the flat seal 8. Since the trough is filled with polishing balls only just above the rotating axis, there is no loss of steel balls when opening the polishing drum and when loading and emptying it.
- either a contact closer is provided so that the drum can be brought into the correct position electrically by pressing a button, or an extension of the rear drive shaft with a handwheel for manual adjustment of the drum.
- the polishing drum 6 is provided with an outlet tap 2 with a sieve 1 for retaining the steel balls at the lowest end thereof, so that the lye change can take place without problems via a hose or directly into the kitchen sink. There is no need for a collecting trough below the polishing drum for the used alkali or for the polishing balls that run out.
- the inside of the polishing drum 6 is designed with a plastic cloth 3 structured on the surface as soundproofing and a friction surface for the polishing balls, whereby this is neither glued in nor vulcanized on, so that it can be replaced by the user himself without tools for later replacement.
- FIGS. 4a to 4b Various drum profile shapes are shown in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 4a to 4b.
- a polishing drum 6a with a rectangular profile is provided, while FIG. 4b shows a round profile drum 6b, FIG. 4c shows an oval profile drum 6c and FIG. 4b shows a concave shaped profile drum 6b, while FIG. 4e shows a hexagonal profiled polishing drum 6e.
- the polishing drum polygonal e.g. octagonal and so on.
- FIGS. 6 and 7 show as an exemplary embodiment that the polishing drum 6 (6a-6b) according to the invention can also be mounted in the space between two wheels 31, it being preferred if the axis of rotation of the wheels 31 is aligned with one another and this in turn with the axis of rotation 28 the polishing drum matches.
- the polishing drum 6 is fastened, it can also be provided that only one wheel 31 is used.
- a drive shaft 32 is present, which is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to a V-belt pulley 34, via which a V-belt, not shown in more detail runs over a gear motor, not shown.
- the other drive shaft 33 is not driven here.
- the advantage of this exemplary embodiment is that the drive can be carried out particularly easily via a V-belt and there is no need to use a worm gear.
- the polishing drum 6 is arranged in the interior of a hermetically closable water container 35, which water container 35 is filled with the soapy water 37.
- the drum container 6 can be used here without a closure lid, because the water container 35 itself has a corresponding lid.
- This exemplary embodiment is comparable to a washing drum of a washing machine, in the interior of which a polishing drum is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the water container 35.
- Figure 9 shows that the water tank 35 is supported on both sides in ball bearings 16 and the drive shaft 32 is in turn connected to a V-belt pulley 34 in a rotationally fixed manner.
- the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 10 shows that the polishing drum is not only connected on one side to a drive shaft and is self-supporting on the opposite side, as shown in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1-3, but the polishing drum can also be supported on two sides in the ball bearing 16 be.
- the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 11 shows that the polishing drum according to the invention can also be used with conventional ball polishing machines.
- a conveyor belt 38 is here via the two drive shafts 32, 33 placed, which is filled with polishing balls 36 due to its convex shape in its interior.
- the polishing drum 6 is half filled with polishing balls 4 of approximately 1 to 2 mm in diameter and with soapy water 37 and equipped with the polishing material 10. After the cover 7 has been closed, the polishing container is simply placed in the rotating steel ball mass of the polishing balls 36 of a commercially available ball polishing machine.
- the polishing drum 6 also rotates and causes in its interior the additional knocking effect aimed at according to the invention for accelerating the hardening and smoothing of metal surfaces, even with very low polishing body pressure.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a polishing and cleaning device, in particular for tableware and jewelry, according to the preamble of claim 1.
It is a portable device for polishing, cleaning and / or deburring parts made of precious or semi-precious metals, especially for the care of silverware or jewelry.
Known stationary or mobile machines of this type have a drum rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis in a trough of a table and an electric drive motor for the same and a transmission arranged between the trough and the drum, both of which are arranged next to the trough or under the table. The shaft coupled to the gear for rotating the drum passes through the end wall of the trough and has to be sealed at this point, which is cumbersome. Furthermore, there is a relatively deep trough, and the removal of parts that get between the drum and the trough bottom, like cleaning the trough itself, is difficult. The drum rotating around the horizontal axis is separated just above the drive shaft into the lower part and upper part as a cover and is hermetically sealed for operation. The lower part of the drum is filled to the brim with polishing bodies such as steel balls of 2 - 5 mm 0 and with a soapy water or cleaning liquid to lighten the metal (deoxidation). When opening the lid, it can be expected that polishing balls will fall out of the polishing drum and must be collected again. The polishing material is pressed into the polishing ball mass, and through the Rotation of the drum creates a circulation of the balls, which roll over the polishing material, roll the scratched metal surface, smooth and compress and harden due to the global pressure of the polishing balls.
The disadvantage of this process is that the effect of surface hardening on the polishing material is greatly reduced, the smaller the diameter of the drum.
Other known machines have an open trough instead of the rotating drum, in which the polishing balls are kept in motion by centrifugal force with vibration or rocking. As a result of the acceleration, the polishing bodies act like small hammers that strike the polishing material. The disadvantage of these systems is that the machines emit vibrations, which requires a solid, heavy chassis, produce a lot of noise and hammer out the polishing material, primarily from precious metals ("orange peel").
The invention is therefore based on the object of developing the known polishing and cleaning device in such a way that a favorable polishing and cleaning effect can be achieved with little effort.
To achieve the object, the invention is characterized by the technical teaching of claim 1.
An essential feature of the invention is that the polishing drum is driven rotatably instead of horizontally, perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, which means that the distance of the walls of the polishing drum from the axis of rotation in the Y direction is greater than the distance of the walls on the axis of rotation in X- Direction, provided that the axis of rotation is driven to rotate in the Z direction.
This has the essential advantage that the polishing body, which is freely movable in the polishing drum and also the soapy water contained therein, no longer experience a purely circular circulation, but instead perform an eccentric circular movement, with a knocking effect of the polishing balls being additionally generated in the reversal points of the circulation curve and so that the surface compaction of the polishing material is accelerated and possible even with small drum diameters with little global pressure of the balls.
Because the longitudinal extension of the polishing drum in the Y direction is larger (longer) than the extension of the polishing drum in the X direction, the polishing bodies experience a gravitational force when the polishing drum rotates in the Z axis, which is aligned horizontally Acceleration downwards when the Y axis is vertical. Conversely, the polishing bodies and the soapy water are accelerated less strongly if the polishing drum is perpendicular with its X axis, which produces the aforementioned eccentric circulation curve of the polishing bodies and the soapy water.
Because of the favorable polishing effect due to the eccentric circulation curve which is achieved even at low speeds, vibrations on the chassis of the polishing drum are avoided and the stability of the device according to the invention is improved.
The profile of the polishing drum can be varied within wide limits. So it is provided that the polishing drum is hollow cylindrical, or rectangular in cross section, hexagonal, oval or concave.
Likewise, the rotary drive of the polishing drum can be released in different ways. All described below Rotary drives are claimed as essential to the invention.

The device shown has an
Because the cylindrical polishing drum is mounted and rotated perpendicular to its rotatable axis, there is no circular circulation of the
The polishing drum consists of a
To stop the polishing drum in a vertical position for better loading, either a contact closer is provided so that the drum can be brought into the correct position electrically by pressing a button, or an extension of the rear drive shaft with a handwheel for manual adjustment of the drum.
The polishing
The inside of the polishing
Various drum profile shapes are shown in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 4a to 4b. Here, a polishing
Die andere Antriebswelle 33 ist hierbei nich angetrieben.FIGS. 6 and 7 show as an exemplary embodiment that the polishing drum 6 (6a-6b) according to the invention can also be mounted in the space between two
The advantage of this exemplary embodiment is that the drive can be carried out particularly easily via a V-belt and there is no need to use a worm gear.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 8 and 9, the polishing
Figure 9 shows that the
The exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 10 shows that the polishing drum is not only connected on one side to a drive shaft and is self-supporting on the opposite side, as shown in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1-3, but the polishing drum can also be supported on two sides in the
The exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 11 shows that the polishing drum according to the invention can also be used with conventional ball polishing machines. A
