Definitions
- the invention relates to an RJ connector for communications and data technology according to the preamble of claim 1.
- RJ-connectors (regular jacks) are known in insulation displacement technology for voice and data transmission, in which RJ contacts are routed parallel to each other over long distances with very small distances (LSA PLUS cable connection technology from KRONE AG: planning information, output 06.92, KRONE LINK with LSA PROFILE). This creates a capacitor effect between the contact tracks, which leads to a deterioration in some electrical characteristics of the connectors.
- the values of the crosstalk attenuation / crosstalk attenuation do not meet the requirements if their use is intended in high-speed networks (CDDI / FDDI arrangements: Cooper Distributed Data Interface / Fiber Distributed Data Interface).
- the inner contacts of the RJ connectors are also different in material thickness and material quality than the outer contacts of the insulation displacement technology.
- the connection between the inner and outer contacts is made in the known connectors by soldering or welding or via printed circuit boards / printed circuit boards.
- the resulting transition points also have a negative influence on some electrical characteristics of the connectors.
- the voice and data transmission via transmission paths with 100 Mbit / s or the use of RJ connectors in the frequency range from 20 to 100 MHz provides, among other things. very high demands on crosstalk attenuation, insertion loss and reflection loss, which are not met by the known RJ connectors.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of developing an RJ connector of the generic type which is significantly improved in its electrical parameters and which corresponds to Category 5 of the technical requirements for cables and connector technology (EIA).
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of a side view of the basic arrangement of the individual contacts of an RJ connector 1 combined with double contacts 3 of insulation displacement technology (LSA PLUS) for different diameters of the wires 8 of a cable 4 to be connected
- LSA PLUS insulation displacement technology
- the contact springs 2 of the RJ connector 1 have uniform dimensions.
- the upper contacts 6 of the double contacts 3 are designed so that different diameters of wires 8 of the horizontally guided cable 4 can be contacted.
- This offset contact routing maximizes the distances between the contacts 2 of the RJ connector 1, so that improved values of the connector 1 with regard to the attenuation, in particular the crosstalk attenuation, are achieved by minimizing the coupling capacitances.
- the continuous use of insulation displacement technology (LSA technology) for contacting the RJ contacts 2 and for contacting the cable wires 8 enables a further optimization of the contact guidance by eliminating any welding or soldering technology. Overall, electrical parameters are achieved for the connector 1 which satisfy the CDDI arrangements.
- FIG. 2 shows a schematic representation of the rear of an RJ connector 1.
- the inner side 9 of the connector which is formed here from 8 double contacts 3 using insulation displacement technology (LSA PLUS), is used to connect the 8 RJ- Contacts 2.
- the inner side 9 of the connector 1 is not accessible to the user.
- the corresponding horizontal wires 8 of the cables 4 are connected to the outer sides 10 of the connector 1.
- the offset arrangement of the double contacts 8 also increases the distance between the RJ contacts 2, so that the coupling capacitances between the single wires 8 decrease.
- FIG. 3 shows a schematic representation of the top view of the contact guide in the connector 1 according to FIG. 2, in which the conditions for an improved transmission of data are achieved by the fanning out of the RJ contacts 2 and by the offset arrangement of the double contacts 3 and speech with a simultaneous reduction in the installation dimensions of the RJ connector 1 by avoiding a printed circuit board.
- FIG. 4 shows a schematic top view of a connector 1 with two double contacts 3 per RJ contact 2. With the implementation of a second contact 3 per RJ contact 2, the ISDN use of the connector 1 is guaranteed.

Abstract
