Abstract

The extrusion tool (injection gun) has a pistol-shaped pressing device (10) to which a tubular cartridge holder (17) is detachably attached by means of a quick-action closure. The cartridge holder (17) contains the cartridge (23), the contents of which are to be extruded (pressed out). In this arrangement, the cartridge (23) is supported on an abutment (29) at the front end of the cartridge holder (17). The abutment (29) is designed so as to be radially resilient, so that the cartridge (23) can be introduced from the front end of the cartridge holder (17). Then the abutment (29) snaps in, so that the cartridge can no longer be moved out of the front end of the cartridge holder. The cartridge is removed through the rear end after release of the quick-action closure (16). The extrusion tool allows rapid cartridge exchange without it being necessary to put down parts and subsequently pick them up again.

Description

The invention relates to an extrusion tool of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1 and known from EP 0 412 198 A1.

The cartridge holder is tubular and has at its front end an abutment for the cartridge to be used. To press the pasty mass out of the cartridge, the pressing device is actuated, while the cartridge is supported on an abutment of the cartridge holder. In the known extrusion tool, the cartridge holder can be rotated relative to the pressing tool to replace the cartridge, thereby releasing the quick-release fastener. Then the cartridge can be removed from the rear end of the cartridge holder be taken out. Then the pusher is set aside to insert a new cartridge into the cartridge holder. Finally, the pressing device is picked up again and the cartridge holder filled with a cartridge is attached to the quick-release fastener of the pressing device. To replace a cartridge it is therefore necessary to put the pushing device aside in the meantime in order to hold the cartridge holder with one hand and the new cartridge with the other hand in order to insert it into the cartridge holder.

Another known extrusion tool according to EP 0 092 607 A1 has a cartridge holder which is fixedly attached to the pressing device. At the front end of the cartridge holder there are resilient tongues which are biased radially outward into the open position and form a funnel-shaped insertion opening for the cartridge to be inserted. A longitudinally displaceable sleeve sits on the cartridge holder and can be pushed forward to press the resilient tongues inwards. In this case, locking surfaces provided on the tongues engage over the cartridge face in order to form an abutment for supporting the cartridge during the pressing out. In another embodiment, the elastic tongues are biased inwards, but it is difficult to remove the cartridge because the tongues have to be opened. The cartridge is inserted and removed through the front end of the cartridge holder. The sleeve which can be moved on the cartridge holder for tensioning the tongues and for locking the cartridge forms a separate part which has to be moved after the cartridge has been inserted and which also moves before the cartridge is removed must become. Therefore, changing the cartridge requires numerous steps.

The invention has for its object to provide an extrusion tool that allows a quick and easy cartridge change in a few easy steps.

This object is achieved according to the invention with the features specified in claim 1.

In the extrusion tool according to the invention, the cartridge is inserted through the front end of the cartridge holder and removed through the rear end. At the front end of the cartridge holder there is an elastically expandable abutment that withdraws when the cartridge is inserted, but prevents the cartridge from being pulled out to the front because it snaps into place elastically over the front frame of the cartridge. The abutment thus interacts with the cartridge in the manner of a ratchet, which only allows the cartridge to move into the cartridge holder, but does not move back in the opposite direction.

To remove the cartridge from the cartridge holder, the quick-release fastener is released, the pressing device being held in one hand and the cartridge holder in the other hand. Then the cartridge is allowed to slide out of the open rear end of the cartridge holder by holding it obliquely while the pressing device is still held in the other hand. The cartridge holder can then be attached to the pressing device and locked with it without being released. While one hand is still the pushing device with the now attached to it holds the empty cartridge holder, a new cartridge can be grasped with the other free hand and inserted into the front end of the cartridge holder. When changing the cartridge, the pushing device does not need to be set aside, and there is also no need for a sliding ring or the like. to be moved on the cartridge holder. The cartridge change can be carried out in a short time in a few short steps, so that the work process does not have to be interrupted for a longer time for a cartridge change. Another advantage is that the cartridge holder can be a one-piece part that is handled as a unit and has no separately operable components. The cartridge holder can be manufactured easily and inexpensively and it has no operating elements.

In the following an embodiment of the invention will be explained with reference to the single figure of the drawing.

In the drawing, an extrusion tool according to the invention is shown in side view, partially in section.

The pressing tool has a pressing device 10 with a housing, from which a handle 11 protrudes. A trigger lever 12 is movable relative to the handle 11 and can be pivoted about an axis 13. By pulling the trigger lever 12, a rod 14 is gradually advanced, which extends through the housing in the longitudinal direction and which carries a feed plate 15 at its front end.

At the front end of the housing of the pressing device 10, the tubular cartridge holder 17 is detachably fastened with a quick-release fastener 16. The cartridge holder 17 is provided at its rear end with a sleeve 18 of larger diameter, which can be plugged onto a tubular extension 19 of the housing, the plug-on movement being limited by a flange 20 of the housing.

The quick release fastener 16 has cooperating fastener elements 21 and 22 on the outer surface of the tubular extension 19 and on the inner surface of the sleeve 18. These locking elements are integrally formed on the respective carrier part and they work together in the manner of a bayonet lock. There are gaps between the closure elements distributed over the circumference, which enable the cartridge holder 17 to be pushed onto the tubular extension 19. During a subsequent rotation of the cartridge holder 17 relative to the pressing device 10, the locking elements 20 engage behind the locking elements 21, so that the cartridge holder 17 is firmly locked on the pressing device 10 and secured against axial pulling off.

The cartridge 23, which contains the pasty mass, is arranged in the tubular cartridge holder 17. The cartridge 23 is open at the rear end. A piston 24 is located in the cartridge for advancing the plastic mass. The feed plate 20 can penetrate into this piston in order to advance the piston in the cartridge 23.

The cylindrical cartridge 23 has a cartridge face 25 at its front end, on which a tube attachment 26 is provided. The tip of the tube extension 26 can be cut off in order to create an outlet opening for the plastic mass. A spout 27 can be screwed onto the tube extension 26. The peripheral wall of the cartridge is extended forward beyond the edge of the cartridge face 25 to form an edge 28 which can be supported on the axial abutment 29 of the cartridge holder 17.

The abutment 29 is attached to longitudinal tongues 30 of the cartridge body 17, which are separated from one another by slots. These tongues 30 are resiliently biased inwards, i.e. They can be moved radially outwards against their elastic prestress, but when they are released they spring back inwards, so that the tongues endeavor to assume the state shown in the drawing or to spring a little further inwards.

The abutment 29 is formed by projections which protrude inward from each of the tongues 30. These projections have inclined surfaces 31 on their front sides, which form a funnel-shaped insertion opening for inserting the cartridge into the cartridge holder, and on their rear ends, which point towards the interior of the cartridge holder, locking surfaces 32, on which the projecting edge 28 of the cartridge locks. The locking surfaces 32 are designed here as undercut surfaces, which prevent the tongues 30 from spreading apart when the cartridge is pressed forward and the shoulder 28 engages the locking surfaces 32.

By advancing the piston 24 in the cartridge 23, the cartridge is pressed firmly against the abutment 29. When the piston 24 has reached its front end position and the cartridge is empty, the cartridge holder 17 is gripped with one hand and the housing 10 of the pressing device with the other hand. By rotating the cartridge holder 17 relative to the housing 10, the quick-release fastener 16 is released, so that the cartridge holder 17 with the cartridge 23 can be removed from the housing 10. By tilting the cartridge holder 17, the cartridge slides out of the rear end of the cartridge holder. Then the empty cartridge holder 17 is fastened again to the pressing device 10 without the respective hands having released the pressing device 10 and the cartridge holder 17. The hand that held the cartridge holder 17 is now released and this hand is used to grip a new cartridge 23, which is now inserted into the front end of the cartridge holder 17. When inserted, the rear end of the cartridge 23 abuts against the inclined surfaces 31, as a result of which the tongues 30 are spread apart, so that the cartridge can be inserted into the cartridge holder. Before inserting the cartridge, the feed plate 15 with the rod 14 is withdrawn. When the cartridge is fully inserted, the tabs 30 move inward so that the abutment 29 prevents the cartridge from moving forward. The abutment snaps in automatically without the need for an operator. No operating or actuating elements are present on the cartridge holder 17.
