Definitions
- the invention relates to an extrusion tool of the type specified in the preamble of claims 1, 5 and 6.
- Pasty sealants, adhesives and the like are supplied in cartridges that have a cylindrical cartridge body, at the front end of which an outlet nozzle is provided.
- the rear end of the cartridge body is open and inside is a piston that can be propelled to force the contents out of the front end of the cartridge.
- An extrusion tool is used to advance the piston, which either has a mechanical feed mechanism for an extrusion slide pressing against the piston or is pneumatically operated.
- EP-A-0 092 607 describes a pistol-shaped extrusion tool which has a tubular cartridge holder into which the cartridge can be inserted from the front. At the front end of the cartridge holder there are elastic arms with inward projections. The cartridge can be inserted into the cartridge holder from the front, with the arms springing apart. When the cartridge is inserted, the projections of the arms snap into place at the front end of the cartridge. This locking position is locked by a sliding sleeve on the cartridge holder. In this way, the cartridge can be easily replaced without screwing operations having to be carried out.
- it is disadvantageous that such an extrusion tool is generally only suitable for a certain cartridge length and that it is suitable for different ones Cartridge lengths usually require different extrusion tools. Furthermore, the length of the extrusion tool is largely determined by the length of the cartridge holder, so that the extrusion tool requires a lot of space and a large-volume packaging.
- the cartridge holder consists of a tube into which the cartridge can be inserted from the rear end.
- the tube is attached to the housing of the extrusion tool with a joint and can be pivoted by approximately 90 °.
- the tube is locked by a quick lock.
- the cartridge holder is an integral part of the extrusion tool.
- a short cartridge holder which has an opening for pushing the cartridge through.
- the cartridge has a flange at its rear end that abuts the rear end of the cartridge holder.
- the cartridge holder is screwed into an internal thread of the housing of the extrusion tool and this screw connection, which is not a quick-release fastener, requires laborious operation.
- the invention has for its object to provide an extrusion tool of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, which is suitable for different cartridge lengths and can be stored and packaged to save space.
- the cartridge holder is fastened to the housing with a quick-release fastener, so that it can be detached from the housing.
- the cartridge holder is loaded with the cartridge from the open rear end and the cartridge is supported on a firm shoulder of the cartridge holder against the direction in which the ejection force acts.
- a major advantage is that different cartridge holders can be kept ready for different cartridge sizes and cartridge shapes, which are connected to the housing.
- the housing of the squeezing device can thus be used optionally with one of several cartridge holders.
- the cartridge holder is a relatively simple and inexpensive part to produce, while the housing, which contains either the drive mechanism or an actuatable valve for the supply of compressed air, is relatively complex.
- the quick-release fastener for example an embodiment in which the cartridge holder must be rotated relative to the housing in order to actuate the fastener, or an embodiment with a sliding sleeve.
- either the cartridge holder or the cartridge can be rotated relative to the housing.
- the cartridge outlet can be attached to the workpiece in difficult to access places in a desired manner, while it is possible to rotate the housing so that the operating lever to be operated by hand is in the most convenient manner for the user.
- the cartridge holder is a one-piece part that can be manufactured as an injection molded part. It is not necessary for the cartridge holder to extend the entire length of the cartridge. Cartridges made of metal in particular often have a flanged edge at the rear end. Such a flanged edge can be used to fix the cartridge axially to the housing. In this case, the cartridge is axially supported at the rear end. In another embodiment, in which the entire length of the cartridge body is surrounded by the cartridge holder, the support is carried out on the front shoulder of the cartridge with a rigid ring collar.
- the extrusion tool 10 is shown together with the associated cartridge 11.
- the cartridge has an elongated cylindrical cartridge body 12, at the one end of which the outlet nozzle 12a is arranged, which has a detachable cap and through which the pasty mass is pressed out of the cartridge.
- the rear end of the cartridge body 12 is open.
- a piston (not shown) which is pressed forward by the extrusion tool in order to press the pasty mass out of the cartridge.
- the cartridge 11 is inserted into the tubular cartridge holder 13 of the extrusion tool 10.
- This Cartridge holder 13 has at the front end an annular stop shoulder 14 with an opening 15 for the passage of outlet nozzle 12a or the nozzle of cartridge 11. Its inside diameter is dimensioned such that cartridge 11 can be easily inserted into cartridge holder 13.
- the cartridge 11 is inserted into the cartridge holder 13 from the open rear end 13a of the cartridge holder.
- the rear end of the cartridge holder 13 is rotatably fastened to the housing 17 of the extrusion tool with a quick release fastener 16.
- the housing 17 contains the feed mechanism 18 for gradually advancing a rod 19, which has a feed plate 20 at its front end, in the cartridge holder 13.
- the feed plate 20 is placed from behind against the piston located in the cartridge body 12 and drives it forward.
- the rod 19 has a length such that it can extend through the cartridge holder 13 and through the housing 17 and at its rear end there is a retract button 21 with which the rod 19 can be manually retracted after unlocking.
- the housing 17 is pistol-shaped and it has a handle 22 fixed to the housing and a trigger lever 23 connected to it in an articulated manner.
- the front end of the housing 17 is closed by a cover 24 attached to the housing, through which the rod 19 passes.
- a spring 25 is supported on this cover 24 and presses a slide 26 surrounding the rod 19 to the rear.
- On the slide 26 a pawl 27 is articulated, which by a Nose 28 of the trigger lever 23 is pivoted forward when the trigger lever 23 is pulled against the handle 22.
- the pawl 27 is tilted on the rod 19, so that the slide 26 and the pawl 27 are non-positively connected to the rod 19.
- the slide 26 is moved forward, taking the rod 19 with it through the pawl 27. If the trigger 23 is released, the spring 25 pushes the slide back again, while the rod 19 remains in the advanced position.
- a spring 32 is supported on the rear wall 30 of the housing 17 and presses against a pawl 33 which has an opening for the passage of the rod 19.
- the pawl 33 allows the rod 19 to move forward, but prevents the rod 19 from retracting.
- the pawl 33 is supported on a stop 34 fixed to the housing and, beyond the stop 34, has a lever arm 33a against which the trigger lever 23 presses when it is released by the user's hand.
- the pawl 33 is pivoted about the stop 34 in the release position so that it releases the rod 19 in both directions, so that the rod 19 can be moved freely in the release position.
- the tubular cartridge holder 13 is connected at its rear end to the housing 17 via the quick-release fastener 16.
- This quick-release fastener 16 has a sleeve 35 which has an inwardly directed flange 36 at the rear end. This flange 36 engages in a groove 37 of the housing 17.
- the sleeve 35 is rotatable relative to the housing 17 about its longitudinal axis.
- the sleeve 35 has resilient tongues 38 which extend in the longitudinal direction of the sleeve 35 and carry latching elements 39 at their front ends which point inwards.
- the locking elements 39 penetrate openings 40 of the cartridge holder 13 and they have bevels 41 on one side, which make it possible to lift the locking element 39 out of the opening 40 when the cartridge holder 13 is rotated with force relative to the sleeve 35.
- bevels 42 are also provided at the front ends of the latching elements 39, which enable the cartridge holder 13 to be inserted into the sleeve 35, the latching elements 39 being pressed radially outward until they snap into the openings 40.
- the cartridge 11 is pushed into the cartridge holder 13 from the rear end thereof. Then the cartridge holder 13 is inserted together with the inserted cartridge 11 into the sleeve 35 until the locking elements 39 snap into the openings 40.
- the squeezing tool can now be used by pulling the trigger lever 23 against the handle 22 and then releasing it. As a result, the rod 19 is gradually advanced together with the plate 20.
- FIGS. 4 and 5 differs from the first exemplary embodiment only in a different design of the quick-release fastener 16.
- the quick-release fastener has resilient tongues 43 at the rear end of the cartridge holder 13. These Resilient tongues 43 are delimited by longitudinal slots and their rear ends are inwardly directed locking elements 44 which can penetrate into a circumferential groove 37 on the housing 17.
- the cartridge holder 13 can be removed from the housing 17.
- the inclined flanks 46 which form the front boundaries of the latching elements 44, slide on the inclined surface 47 of the groove 37, so that the tongues 43 spring radially outwards according to FIG. 5.
- oblique rear flanks 48 are provided, so that the tongues 43 are pushed outwards against the housing 17 when the cartridge holder 13 is attached and then snap resiliently into the groove 37.
- the cartridge holder 13 is a short tube which is open at the front so that the cartridge 11 protrudes from it.
- Cartridges 11 or 11a of different lengths can be used.
- the cartridges At the rear end, the cartridges have an outward retaining element 50, which is preferably designed as a circumferential flange or flanged edge. Such flanged edges are common, for example, in metal cartridges.
- This retaining element 50 abuts an annular shoulder 51 inside the cartridge holder 13.
- the cartridge holder 13 also has a sleeve 52, which is on a Cylinder surface 53 of the housing 17 is pushed on.
- outwardly projecting lugs 54 are provided which engage in corresponding recesses 55 in the sleeve 52.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an extrusion tool of the type specified in the preamble of claims 1, 5 and 6.
Pasty sealants, adhesives and the like are supplied in cartridges that have a cylindrical cartridge body, at the front end of which an outlet nozzle is provided. The rear end of the cartridge body is open and inside is a piston that can be propelled to force the contents out of the front end of the cartridge. An extrusion tool is used to advance the piston, which either has a mechanical feed mechanism for an extrusion slide pressing against the piston or is pneumatically operated.
Ferner wird die Länge des Auspreßwerkzeugs wesentlich durch die Länge des Kartuschenhalters bestimmt, so daß das Auspreßwerkzeug viel Platz und eine großvolumige Verpackung erfordert.EP-A-0 092 607 describes a pistol-shaped extrusion tool which has a tubular cartridge holder into which the cartridge can be inserted from the front. However, it is disadvantageous that such an extrusion tool is generally only suitable for a certain cartridge length and that it is suitable for different ones Cartridge lengths usually require different extrusion tools. Furthermore, the length of the extrusion tool is largely determined by the length of the cartridge holder, so that the extrusion tool requires a lot of space and a large-volume packaging.
The preamble of claims 1 and 5 is based on a pressing tool according to DE-U-87 02 055. In this pressing tool, the cartridge holder consists of a tube into which the cartridge can be inserted from the rear end. The tube is attached to the housing of the extrusion tool with a joint and can be pivoted by approximately 90 °. The tube is locked by a quick lock. Here, too, the cartridge holder is an integral part of the extrusion tool.
In a further known extrusion tool according to DE-U-89 01 028, from which the preamble of claim 6 is based, a short cartridge holder is provided which has an opening for pushing the cartridge through. The cartridge has a flange at its rear end that abuts the rear end of the cartridge holder. The cartridge holder is screwed into an internal thread of the housing of the extrusion tool and this screw connection, which is not a quick-release fastener, requires laborious operation.
The invention has for its object to provide an extrusion tool of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, which is suitable for different cartridge lengths and can be stored and packaged to save space.
6.This object is achieved according to the invention with the features of claims 1, 5 and 6.
In the extrusion tool according to the invention, the cartridge holder is fastened to the housing with a quick-release fastener, so that it can be detached from the housing. The cartridge holder is loaded with the cartridge from the open rear end and the cartridge is supported on a firm shoulder of the cartridge holder against the direction in which the ejection force acts. A major advantage is that different cartridge holders can be kept ready for different cartridge sizes and cartridge shapes, which are connected to the housing. The housing of the squeezing device can thus be used optionally with one of several cartridge holders. The cartridge holder is a relatively simple and inexpensive part to produce, while the housing, which contains either the drive mechanism or an actuatable valve for the supply of compressed air, is relatively complex.
Various variants are possible for the quick-release fastener, for example an embodiment in which the cartridge holder must be rotated relative to the housing in order to actuate the fastener, or an embodiment with a sliding sleeve.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, either the cartridge holder or the cartridge can be rotated relative to the housing. The cartridge outlet can be attached to the workpiece in difficult to access places in a desired manner, while it is possible to rotate the housing so that the operating lever to be operated by hand is in the most convenient manner for the user.
The cartridge holder is a one-piece part that can be manufactured as an injection molded part.

In Fig. 1, the
The
The rear end of the
The
The front end of the
The
It can also be provided locking elements that prevent such rotation.
From Figs. 2 and 3 it can be seen that the
The
The embodiment of FIGS. 4 and 5 differs from the first exemplary embodiment only in a different design of the quick-
In the embodiment of Fig. 6, the
