Definitions
- a known circuit breaker of the kind mentioned is personalized during its installation by adding auxiliary blocks adapted to the application or the corresponding electrical installation.
- auxiliary blocks are, for example, contacts for signaling the open or closed position of the contacts, or for signaling a trip on fault, or any other command, or signaling.
- These auxiliary blocks cooperate electrically and or mechanically with elements of the circuit breaker, and they are housed in accessible compartments after removal of a protective plate or a cover.
- the compartments are advantageously electrically isolated from the other parts of the circuit breaker to allow the insertion or removal of the auxiliary blocks, the device being energized.
- Each auxiliary unit is adapted to its function, and its structure and size vary depending on the type of function provided. In turn, the compartments are adapted to the type of corresponding auxiliary blocks, and they may even include keying pins avoiding the installation of an unsuitable auxiliary block.
- the customization of the circuit breaker by the distributor or by the installer has the advantage of a reduction in stocks, but this reduction is limited by the fact that at each circuit breaker, it is possible to add four or five different types of blocks auxiliaries. The installer or distributor must therefore have these four or five types of auxiliary blocks, and it is frequent that this batch of auxiliary blocks is delivered with the circuit breaker, the unused blocks being simply discarded.
- the object of the present invention is to improve these circuit breakers and to reduce the number of types of auxiliary blocks.
- the auxiliary blocks are standard and from a single stock, the installer will be able to customize the circuit breaker and meet different needs.
- the standard auxiliary unit comprises at least one auxiliary contact actuated by a pusher, which cooperates after installation in the corresponding compartment, with the control member of this compartment.
- the control members of the different compartments are of course arranged in the same locations and perform the same actuation stroke, the difference consisting in the electrical or mechanical connection with the elements of the circuit breaker.
- circuit breaker each pole comprises a molded plastic box, in which is housed a section of bar carrying a movable contact bridge.
- the different poles of the circuit breaker are juxtaposed in a box, the cover of which includes the compartments for housing the auxiliary blocks.
- One of these compartments in this case signaling the position of the contacts of the circuit breaker, comprises a control member mechanically connected to the bar which carries the movable contact bridge, so as to represent the position of the contacts and to actuate in Consequently, the auxiliary contact of the block housed in this compartment.
- the mechanical connection between the contact carrier bar and the control member for signaling the position of the contacts preferably consists of a slide, interposed between two pole boxes, which slide transmits by displacement the movements of the bar to said control members compartment.
- Another compartment is assigned to the signaling of a trip and this compartment comprises for this purpose a control member which cooperates with the arming and disarming hook of the mechanism.
- the standard auxiliary unit, housed in this compartment will thus translate the position of the mechanism hook and signal a trip.
- the circuit breaker can also include a tripping signaling compartment on electrical fault, which compartment is then placed opposite a housing of a control relay acting on the tripping bar of the circuit breaker. The control member of this compartment is then connected to this control relay to signal a trip command on an electrical fault.
- Customizing the circuit breaker is particularly simple, since the distributor or installer simply introduces a standard auxiliary block into the compartment assigned to the desired function.
- the function performed by the compartment can be identified by any appropriate means, for example, by registration. Unused auxiliary blocks can of course be used for other circuit breakers, thus avoiding unnecessary waste or stock.
- the compartments are preferably arranged on either side of the control mechanism and after the auxiliary blocks have been installed, they are closed by a second part of the cover, which can be a plate forming the front face of the circuit breaker.
- the auxiliary blocks are preferably fixed in the compartment by a simple snap, which allows disassembly and replacement of the auxiliary block on request.
- Figure 1 is a schematic plan view of the circuit breaker according to the invention, the upper part of the cover being assumed removed and auxiliary blocks being housed in each of the compartments.
- Figure 2 is a view similar to that of Figure 1, in which the auxiliary blocks are removed.
- FIG. 3 is a perspective view of an auxiliary block, according to FIG. 1.
- FIG. 4 is a sectional view of the auxiliary unit according to FIG. 3.
- Figure 5 is an axial section of a pole of the circuit breaker and the associated control mechanism.
- FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the mechanism according to FIG. 5.
- Figures 7 and 8 are sections of the mechanism shown respectively in the armed position and in the disarmed position.
- Figures 9 and 10 are elevational views of a circuit breaker pole, equipped with a slide signaling the position of the bar, shown respectively in the closed position of the contacts and in the open position.
- Figure 11 is a schematic perspective view of a control relay and the compartment control member associated with this control relay.
- a molded case 10 of a three-pole circuit breaker consisting of a base 11 and a cover 12, contains three single-pole boxes 13 arranged side by side.
- Each box 13 contains two fixed contacts 14,15 which cooperate with a rotary contact bridge 16.
- the fixed contacts 14,15 are each connected to a connection pad 17,18 and to each pair of contacts 14,16; 15,16 is associated with a switching chamber 19.
- the contact bridge 16 is mounted floating in a section of bar 20 which communicates the opening and closing movements of the contacts 14,15,16 to it.
- the bar sections 20 of the three boxes 13 are secured by bars 21 coupled to a control mechanism, designated by the general reference 22.
- the mechanism 22 is disposed above the central pole of the circuit breaker and it is secured to the box 13 of this central pole by two spaced lateral flanges 23,24 which frame the mechanism 22.
- a control handle 25 which projects from the cover 12.
- On the flanges 23,24 is also articulated by an axis 26 , a crank 27 crossed by the bars 21 to control the rotation of the bar sections 20.
- a knee lever 28 connects the crank 27 to a hook 29, itself articulated by an axis 30, on the flanges 23,24.
- the end 31 of the hook 29, opposite the axis 30 carries a locking surface 32 capable of cooperating with a lock 33.
- the axis 34 of the toggle joint 28 is connected by a spring 35 to the handle 25.
- the spring 35 urges the toggle joint 28 in the extended position, tending to rotate the bar sections 20, counterclockwise, to maintain the contacts 14,15 , 16, in the closed position.
- a pivoting to the right in FIGS. 5 and 7 of the handle 25 displaces the line of action of the spring 35 causing the breaking of the toggle joint 28 and the rotation of the bar sections 20 in the clockwise direction, to open the contacts 14,15,16.
- the actuation of the latch 33 also causes the circuit breaker to open, by releasing the hook 29, which pivots anticlockwise towards the disarmed position, shown in FIG. 8, driving the crank 27 and the sections bar 20 to the open position of the contacts 14,15,16.
- the resetting of the mechanism 22 results from the displacement of the handle 25 towards the open position and it then suffices to pivot the handle in the opposite direction to close the circuit breaker.
- the lock 33 is controlled by a trip unit 36 associated or incorporated in the molded housing 10.
- Such a circuit breaker is described in the document FR-A-2,687,249 (published on 13.8.93) of the applicant, and the reader will advantageously refer at this request for further details on the operation and structure of this circuit breaker.
- the cover 12 has a front plate (not shown), which after removal gives access to four compartments 37,38,39,40 formed in the cover 12. These four compartments 37-40 are distributed in a row on either side of the mechanism 22.
- the four compartments 37-40 have an identical shape and dimension to each receive a block of standard auxiliary contacts 41.
- the auxiliary block 41 has snap-on spouts 42, capable of cooperating with conjugated parts of compartment 37-40, for snap-fastening the block 41, made of insulating material , in the corresponding compartment.
- a contact blade 43 of the TUMBLER type, which cooperates with two fixed contacts 44, to constitute a change-over contact.
- the block 41 carries external connection terminals 45 and a pusher 46 for controlling the contact blade 43.
- the contact blade 43 In the projecting position of the pusher 46, shown in FIG. 4, the contact blade 43 cooperates with the lower fixed contact 44 , while in the depressed position of the pusher 46, the contact blade 43 cooperates with the upper fixed contact 44.
- the auxiliary unit 41 can be arranged in a different way and include a higher or lower number of contacts 43 , 44, as well as a different mode of actuation of the pusher 46.
- the auxiliary unit 41 is standard and it can be installed in any one of the compartments 37-40, the pusher 46 passing through an orifice 47 formed in the bottom of the compartment 37-40 and giving access to the corresponding control member. 48.49.50.
- the actuating strokes of all these control members 48-50 are identical but these members cooperate with elements different from the circuit breaker to personalize the corresponding compartment.
- the circuit breaker comprises two compartments 37.40 associated with the function of signaling the opening and closing of the contacts of the circuit breaker.
- Another compartment 38 provides the signaling of a tripping of the circuit breaker and the fourth compartment 39 is assigned to the signaling of a tripping on an electrical fault.
- the control members 48 of the compartments 37, 40 for signaling the position of the contacts are, as shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, constituted by a slide 51 interposed between two single-pole boxes 13 and having a fork 52 which embraces a bar 21 connecting the sections of bars 20.
- FIG. 9 and 10 constituted by a slide 51 interposed between two single-pole boxes 13 and having a fork 52 which embraces a bar 21 connecting the sections of bars 20.
- FIG. 9 represents the position of the bar 21 when the contacts 14, 15, 16 are closed, the slide being in the lowered position, without action on the pusher 46 of the auxiliary block 41 which remains in position protrusion.
- FIG. 10 represents the position of the bar 21, when the contacts 14, 15, 16 are open, the pivoting and the upward movement of the bar 21 having moved the slide 51 upwards, to depress the pusher 46 and actuate the contact blade 43 of the auxiliary unit 41.
- This mode of control by a slide 51 is particularly simple and reliable, but it is obvious that the information relating to the position of the contacts can be raised in another location and can be transmitted to the pusher 46 by other means.
- the control member 49, of the trigger signaling compartment 38 takes the information from the hook 29.
- a rocker arm 53 carries, on the one hand the control member 49 and on the other hand a stop 54, held in abutment with a spout 55 of the hook 29.
- the resetting of the hook 29, from the disarmed position, represented in FIG. 8, by pivoting of this hook, clockwise, causes the rocker arm 53 to rotate anti-clockwise, and the upward movement of the control member 49 which acts on the pusher 46.
- a tripping causes a reverse movement of the hook 29 and the rocker arm 53 which then releases the pusher 46.
- the position of the contact blade 43 of the associated auxiliary block 41 represents that of the hook 29 and thus signals any tripping of the circuit breaker.
- the other compartment 39 signals a trip on an electrical fault, and for this purpose, its control member 50 is associated with a trip control relay 56.
- the relay 56 illustrated in FIG. 11, is an electromagnet housed in a compartment 57 of the cover 12, opposite the compartment 39, which relay actuates a pivoting assembly 58 having, on the one hand a stop 59 for actuating the lock 33 for tripping the circuit breaker, and on the other hand a lever constituting the control member 50.
- the transmission to the auxiliary unit 41 can of course be carried out in a different way and that the relay 56 can be arranged or arranged in a different way.
- the circuit breaker has four compartments 37-40, two of which, 37.40 have the function of signaling the position of the contacts of the circuit breaker, another compartment 38 signaling the tripped position, and the fourth compartment 39 providing the function of signaling on electrical fault. .
- the installer or the distributor wants to have a signaling of the position of the contacts, he introduces into compartment 37 or 40, or both if the information has to be split, an auxiliary block 41.
- the installation is simple, since it suffices to snap on the auxiliary unit 41 and this operation is carried out without any risk, the compartments 37-40 being closed relative to the base 11 of the circuit breaker, which contains the active parts.
- auxiliary block 41 into one of the other compartments 38 or 39, or if he wishes all of the functions, the installer introduces auxiliary blocks 41 into each of the compartments 37-40. Access to these compartments 37-40, 57 is then prevented by the positioning of the plate before the closure of the cover 12. The subsequent removal of an auxiliary block 41 or the addition of such a block may well heard to be carried out easily after removal of the front plate.
- the same circuit breaker can have a greater or lesser number of compartments, which can be assigned to other functions defined during the construction of the circuit breaker. The choice of function results from the choice of the compartment in which the standard auxiliary unit 41 is put in place. The location and arrangement of these compartments may be different and the connections of the control members of these compartments with the corresponding elements of the circuit breaker may be produced in a different manner, in particular electrically or by any other means.
