Abstract

PCT No. PCT/AT93/00063 Sec. 371 Date Dec. 7, 1993 Sec. 102(e) Date Dec. 7, 1993 PCT Filed Apr. 7, 1993 PCT Pub. No. WO93/20903 PCT Pub. Date Oct. 28, 1993.A method for conditioning a racquet string which is tensioned to an elongation between 5 and 15% and in this state is wound on a spool. To implement this process, an untreated string segment is drawn off a supply drum and the end of the untreated string segment is affixed to the periphery of the spool. Thereupon the spool is moved away from the supply drum such that a specified winding length corresponding to the untreated string segment is tensioned to produce a predetermined elongation. While the tension is maintained, the elongated string segment, with simultaneous motion of the spool toward the supply drum, is then wound on the supply spool and lastly the second end of this string segment is affixed to the periphery of the spool.

Description

The invention relates to a method for producing a string in the form of delivery for ball rackets, in particular tennis rackets, in which the string - for conditioning it for the stringing process - is applied to a carrier spool under tension and is kept there at least essentially constant in length.

Stand der TechnikState of the art

A method of this type is known from WO-A1-86 / 02850. The raw string is drawn off from a storage drum braked with a defined torque under tension, and at this tension, which produces an elongation in the range of 5 to 15%, is wound onto the carrier reel in the length required for the tensioning process.

If one removes the tension string conditioned in this way from the carrier reel and thus strings a ball racket, in particular a tennis racket - without having to wait for a long time - the hardness of the tension decreases less strongly over time than when straining with an unconditioned tension string of the same type Good results are achieved with the method described in the aforementioned WO-A1-86 / 02850.

It has now been shown, however, that with the particular type of winding described in the aforementioned WO-A1-86 / 02850, the size of the pretensioning fluctuates over the length of the string to be spooled. Thus, when the carrier body to be spooled starts up, the tensile stress and thus the elongation in the stringing string initially increases from zero to a maximum value over a not inconsiderable period of time; it is not constant during this time. The same applies to braking at the end of the winding of the carrier body. In addition, because of the creeping of the strings under tension String stretching still depends on the winding speed. In order to stabilize the stretch better, winding it as slowly as possible would be desirable. However, this would again extend the start-up and braking periods with their uneven stretching.

Darstellung der ErfindungPresentation of the invention

Hier will die Erfindung Abhilfe schaffen. The invention seeks to remedy this. The invention, as characterized in the claims, achieves the object of specifying a method of the type mentioned in the introduction in which a pretension that is more uniform over the string length is achieved than in the known methods mentioned.

A carrier coil 1 (see FIGS. 1 to 3) has a convex, circular-cylindrical surface 2 which is delimited on both sides by coil walls 3, 4. On one of the two coil walls 3, a slot 5 is provided for fixing one of the ends of the string section 7 to be applied to the carrier spool 1. In addition, a nose-shaped projection 8 with a device 9 for fastening the second string end is provided, the detailed design and operation of which will be explained below. 3 also shows the string section 7 applied as a winding.

A device which is suitable for carrying out the method according to the invention for the simultaneous conditioning of two strings will now be described schematically with reference to FIGS. 4 and 9.

Zur Vorrichtung gehören noch zwei Vorratstrommeln 20 für die Rohsaiten 19.The device consists of a frame 11 with a slide guide 12, in which a carrier coil slide 13 is adjustable in the horizontal direction. On the carriage 13 there is a holding mandrel 15 which can be rotated by means of a controllable drive 14 (see FIG. 9) and on which two carrier coils 1 can be accommodated at the same time. Following the right end of the slide guide 12 in the drawing, a fixing device 16 with a pressure beam 17 and a string guide 18 are arranged. The device also includes two storage drums 20 for the raw strings 19.

At the beginning of the method according to the invention, the carriage 13 assumes its right end position. The operator is also at this end of the device. First, two empty carrier coils 1 are plugged onto the mandrel 15, which is secured against rotation in this phase. Then the ends 6 of the two raw strings 20 drawn off from the supply drums 20 are pulled through the opening 21 of the fixing device 16 and - each provided with an end knot 10 - fixed in the slots 5 of the respective carrier coils 1. This phase of the process is shown in FIG. 4.

The carrier spool carriage 13 is then moved to the left (see FIG. 5) to its left end position, a raw string 19 with a length 1 of 11 m, that is the length of the string string piece to be conditioned, being drawn off from the two storage drums . The adjustment movement of the slide 13 is advantageously carried out by means of a rack and pinion drive with a drive unit (not shown) arranged on the slide 13.

As the next step in the method, the pressure bar 17 of the fixing device 16 is now lowered, and thus the stripped string section 7 is held between the carrier coils 1 and the fixing device 16 (see FIG. 6). Thereafter, between the pressure beam 17 and the string guide 18, separately on each of the two string sections, a force indicated by the arrow 22 is e.g. applied over a period of 30 s in such a way that, after this time, it generates a predetermined stretch in the string section 7 stretched between the carrier coils 1 and the string guide 18, which advantageously has a value in the range from 5 to 15%.

Subsequently - while maintaining the tension in the two string sections 7 - the slide 13 is moved as quickly as possible (e.g. in 12 s) into its right end position while simultaneously rotating the carrier coils 1 with the aid of the holding mandrel 15 or winding the string sections 7 (see FIG 7). When the string is wound, the carrier spools are wound in two layers.

For each of the two carrier coils, the end 23 of the string is then - as explained with reference to FIG. 3 - fixed to the carrier coil 1 while under tension (see FIG. 8). The nose-shaped projection 8 of the fixing device 9 used for this purpose has a bore 24 which is connected to the top 26 of the projection 8 by a longitudinal slot 25. To fix the string 7 by the Longitudinal slot 25 pressed into the bore 24 of the projection 8. In front of this projection 8, a slotted clamping sleeve 27 and a cooperating with this longitudinally slotted clamping sleeve 28 is applied to the string end 23 to be fixed and the clamping sleeve 28 with its conical end 29 in the clamping sleeve 27, which engages in the bore 24 and on the Support projection 8, pushed in, whereby both are clamped on the string end 23. Then the action of force 22 is released and the string is cut at point 30. As a result of relieving the tension on the string beyond the fixing device 16, the string section 7, which is under tension on the carrier spool 1, pulls the clamping sleeve 28 against the clamping bush 27 or the projection 8 and thus reinforces the fixing.

As the last method step, the two fully wound carrier spools 1 are removed from the mandrel 15 and replaced by two empty ones.

The method according to the invention initially has the advantage that the string is applied to the carrier spool with a constant pretension over its length. In addition, - supervised by only one operator, who does not have to change his position at the right end position of the slide 13 - several carrier coils 1 can be wound simultaneously, which results in a high productivity of the method.

Gewerbliche VerwertbarkeitCommercial usability

With the aid of the method according to the invention for producing a string in the delivery form for ball rackets, in particular tennis rackets, a pretension that is more uniform over the string length is achieved than in the known methods.
