Description

The present invention relates generally to the ventilation and cooling of motor vehicle headlamps.

A number of projectors are already known which are equipped with a ventilation channel between the interior space of the projector and the exterior. Conventionally, such a ventilation channel must be designed to ensure a two-way air circulation between said interior space and the exterior, in order to cope with overpressures or depressions caused by changes in temperature of the projector during lighting. and successive shutdowns, ensuring that no moisture condenses on the cold walls of the projector. The purpose of such a channel is at the same time to maintain the interior space of the projector, and more particularly the lamp, at a reasonable temperature intended in particular for the lamp to maintain a normal lifetime.

At the same time, such a ventilation channel must be designed to prevent any penetration of water, mud, etc. into the interior space of the projector, especially when the vehicle is traveling in rainy conditions or when washing the engine compartment of the projector with a high pressure jet or the like.

A known solution to this problem consists in defining, for example by cooperation of suitable arrangements which have been molded on the rear face of the reflector and of a suitable corformation of a windscreen or closure cover which is applied against this rear face, at least one annular channel opening on the outside in its lower region and opening on the interior space of the projector in its upper region.

Document FR-A-2 600 145 in the name of the Applicant describes a projector of this type.

However, channel ventilation devices known ventilation and single cooling have the major drawback of not ensuring sufficient cooling of the lamp. It therefore works at a high temperature and its life is reduced.

The present invention aims mainly to overcome this drawback of the prior art, without however altering the other qualities of the known ventilation / cooling devices.

The present invention relates for this purpose to a motor vehicle headlamp as defined in claim 1.

Preferred, but not limiting, aspects of this projector are defined in the subclaims.

Other aspects, objects and advantages of the present invention will appear better on reading the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, given by way of example and made with reference to the appended drawing, in which :
  • FIG. 1 is a view in axial vertical section of part of a projector fitted with ventilation means according to the invention, and
  • FIG. 2 is a view in transverse vertical section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.

Referring to the drawing, there is shown in part a headlamp which comprises a lamp 10, a reflector 20 and a cover 30 intended to be applied against a rear face of the reflector. A window (not shown), intended to be tightly connected to the reflector or to an intermediate piece, closes the interior space of the projector.

The lamp 10 is in this case a type 9006 lamp (standards of the United States of America). Other types of lamps can of course be envisaged. It comprises a base 10a intended to be applied by a shoulder 10c against an annular surface provided at the rear of the reflector, and a bulb 10b of which a filament, cooperating with a reflecting surface 20a of the reflector, is intended to generate a beam . Behind the base 10a extends a generally angled connector indicated in 10d for the electrical supply of the lamp.

The reflector 20 comprises, in addition to the reflecting surface 20a and a lamp hole 20b, three approximately cylindrical and coaxial skirts 22, 24, 26 which extend rearward in its posterior region. These skirts preferably share a common axis X-X which also constitutes the axis of the lamp and the optical axis of the reflector.

Preferably, the three skirts 22, 24 and 26 came from molding during the manufacture of the reflector. To facilitate demolding, they have a section which decreases slightly from front to back (from right to left in Figure 1). However, for the sake of simplification, we will continue to speak of cylindrical skirts.

It can also be seen in FIG. 1 that the outer face of the outer skirt 22 has a stepped profile which defines, together with a cover rim 30a with a smooth inner face which will be described later, three concentric annular channels 41, 42, 43. This three-channel system is intended to prevent any penetration of liquid into the interior space of the projector. More specifically, the channels 43 and 42 are intended to "tire" the water capable of penetrating from the outside between the skirt 22 and the flange 30a, while the channel 41, by opening onto the outside in the lower region of the skirt 22, as illustrated, ensures the evacuation of this water.

As can also be seen in FIG. 1, the three skirts 22, 24, 26 respectively have rearward ranges which differ: the external skirt 22 extends furthest, and the internal skirt 26 extends the further away, the intermediate skirt 24 having an intermediate extension.

The cover 30 has the triple object of closing the interior space of the projector at the assembly level. lamp / reflector, to maintain the position of the lamp 10 and to cooperate with the rear end regions of the three skirts 22, 24, 26 to define ventilation channels as will be seen below. More specifically, the cover 30 comprises, extending from a body 31 oriented essentially radially, an outer rim 30a oriented axially forwards and capable of being in contact with the outer face of the skirt 22, an axial rib 30b intended to be in contact with the inner face of the skirt 22, and finally two ribs 30c, 30d which are in contact with the outer and inner end faces, respectively, of the intermediate skirt 24.

The rim 30a and the ribs 30b-d, by enclosing the end regions of the skirts 22, 24, ensure the firm and tight fixing of the cover 30 on the rear of the reflector.

L'épaulement 10c de la lampe est en appui contre la face radiale terminale de la jupe intérieure 26.The inner face of the innermost rib 30d is planar and designed to cooperate under pressure with an O-ring seal 12 which is a part known in itself of the base 10a of the lamp. The shoulder 10c of the lamp bears against the radial end face of the inner skirt 26.

The skirts 22, 24, 26, together with the body 31 of the cover, the collar 10c and the part of the reflector which defines the reflecting surface 20a, are capable of forming closed channels in an arc of a circle for the circulation of air and liquids, as will be seen in detail below.

The cover 30 includes other arrangements for holding the base 10a of the lamp, and in particular a recess 30e delimited at the rear by a re-entrant collar 30f.

We will now describe with reference to Figure 2 of the arrangements provided on and in the skirts 22, 24, 26 to ensure ventilation and cooling of the interior space of the projector, and in particular of the lamp 10.

The outer skirt 22 has in its lower part an opening 22a constituting a cold air inlet. It can be seen in FIG. 1 that this opening communicates with a bent cold air inlet passage 32, open at its two ends (respectively axially towards the front, and downwards at the rear), which is formed in the lower region of the cover 30 and defined by two walls 32a, 32b.

This wall is extended at 25a between the skirts 24 and 26. An opening 24a is formed in the skirt 24 immediately adjacent to the wall 23a-25a (to the right of the latter in FIG. 2). An opening 26a is also formed in the inner skirt 26, in a position corresponding approximately to a southwest orientation in FIG. 2. This opening opens onto the interior space of the projector in the vicinity of the lamp hole 20b, immediately behind of it.

The skirts 22, 24, 26 provided with these arrangements, and the cover 30, together define a first labyrinth communication path between the exterior and the interior space of the projector, this path or channel being defined by a first channel part in an arc of a circle C1 delimited by the skirts 22 and 24 and extending in this case over a little less than 180 ° between the openings 22a and 24a, and by a second portion of channel in an arc of a circle C2 delimited by the skirts 24 and 26, running along the channel C1 and extending in this case over a little less than 135 ° between the openings 24a and 26a.

The path defined by the channel parts C1 and C2 and the associated openings essentially constitutes a fresh air intake path, relatively large section, for cooling the projector and in particular the lamp.

Another opening 26b is formed in the skirt 26, immediately adjacent to the wall 25a (to the left of the latter in FIG. 2). The skirt 24 further defines an opening 24c which is positioned with a slight offset (to the left relative to the opening 26b) relative to the opening 26b, so as to define a first part of the winding path.

A channel portion C3 is defined between the skirts 22 and 24, from the opening 24c and up to an opening 31a formed in the body 31 of the cover 30 and positioned so as to open into a recess 22d of the skirt 22 This opening 31a communicates with a chimney (schematically indicated at 31b) which preferably extends upwards and which is formed in a corresponding location in the cover 30.

Enfin, un autre muret 22c obture partiellement la partie de canal C3 à partir de la jupe extérieure 22, immédiatement en amont du renfoncement 22d.The channel part C3 also defines a sinuous path using a plurality of protuberances molded from the skirts 22 and 24. More specifically, a low wall 24d projects upwards from the intermediate skirt 24, on a substantial part of the height of the channel part C3, immediately adjacent to the opening 24c (to the left of the latter in FIG. 2). A rib 22b extends downwards in the channel part C3, downstream of the wall 24d. Then, a springboard-shaped part 24e projects upwards, downstream of the rib 22b, from the intermediate skirt 24. Finally, another low wall 22c partially seals the channel part C3 from the external skirt 22 , immediately upstream of the recess 22d.

Finally, we observe that beyond the start 31a towards the chimney 31b, the part of channel C3 extends into a part of channel C4, always defined between the skirts. 22 and 24, up to the lower opening 22a. In the part C4, immediately upstream of the opening 22a, a low wall 24b projects downwards from the intermediate skirt 24, to locally decrease the section of said part C4 for the purposes explained below.

Finally, it will be noted that the annular end edge of the outer skirt 22 includes a plurality of protruding pins 221 intended essentially to ensure that the cover 30 is tightened on the skirt 22 without any other fixing means, the cover 30 being provided with recesses which are essentially complementary to these pions. These pins serve incidentally as polarizing means during assembly of the cover.

The behavior of the projector as described above will now be explained.

L'air échauffé par la lampe dans l'espace intérieur du projecteur s'évacue à travers le trajet 26b, 24c, C3, 22d et 31a.The air heated by the lamp in the interior space of the projector is evacuated through the path 26b, 24c, C3, 22d and 31a.

This double circulation of hot air and cold air along two separate paths advantageously makes it possible to obtain a large flow of fresh air, capable of maintaining the interior space of the projector, and in particular the lamp, at an operating temperature. relatively low, which extends its lifespan.

In addition, the design of the two paths is such that any penetration of water or dirt (mud, etc.) into the interior space is avoided. More specifically, at the cold air inlet path, the passage 32 is designed to protect the opening 22a against direct jets of liquid, while the initial part (C1) of this path, as well as the passage 26a, create rising flow directions.

At the level of the hot air outlet path, the arrangements formed in the channel part C3 are intended to "tire" the water contained in the form of vapor in the outgoing hot air flow, this water being deposited on the walls of said channel part and then evacuated by gravity, via channel part C4, to the opening 22a. This opening therefore takes the place of both the fresh air inlet opening and the water outlet opening. It will further be observed that the wall for 24b has the purpose of authorizing this evacuation of water or other liquid while suitably isolating the fresh air inlet channel from the hot air outlet channel, by an appropriate local reduction of the section of the channel part C4.

In addition, the lower wall 24b, together with the protrusions 22c and 22b located in the upper region, are intended to laminate any reverse air flow charged with water or moisture, capable of circulating in the parts of channels C4 and C3, dropping the water by gravity.

Of course, protection against splashing water is also ensured by the tight cooperation of the cover 30 with the terminal regions of the skirts 22, 24 and 26, as well as by the tight cooperation, using the seal. toric 12, between the base 10a of the lamp and the cover 30.

It will further be observed that, by simple axial positioning, which can be automated, of the cover 30 on the rear of the reflector, the ventilation and cooling system as defined above is simultaneously ensured, with protection against splashing liquids and evacuation of any liquid likely to have penetrated therein, and fixing the lamp 10 to the reflector.

Finally, note that the ventilation functions and cooling are carried out without having to spare the slightest opening at the reflective surface 20a of the reflector 20, since the incoming air and the outgoing air both pass through the lamp hole 20b. In this regard, it will be observed that by simply removing the lamp 10, it is possible, by simple sealed application of an appropriate tip on the lamp hole, to check the good sealing of the projector between the reflector (or an adequate intermediate part ) and ice.
