Description

The present invention relates to a head for a polishing machine with oscillating sector carriers.

It is known, from Italian document No. 1,198,798 of the same holder, a head for a polishing machine with the sector carriers oscillating around an axis inclined relative to the work plane.

This known device uses a tubular cam, mounted madly and concentrically with a vertical shaft connected to a drive member, which causes the oscillation of several pendulums. Said pendulums, in turn, cause the discordant oscillation of other pendulums to which the sector carriers are fixed. It follows that the instantaneous oscillation of each sector holder is in the opposite direction to that of the adjacent sector holders.

However, since each polishing machine is equipped with a large number of heads, this results in problems of space and transport.

Another disadvantage of said known device lies in the fact that the case of formation of circular scratches on the polished surface is frequent, which causes significant damage to the user, especially if it is a valuable material.

According to document IT FI 92A16 by the same holder, there is also known a head for a polishing machine with the sector carriers which all oscillate in the same direction.
However, in this also known device, it is not excluded that circular stripes will form on the treated surface.

The main object of the present invention is to eliminate the aforementioned drawback and to produce a head for a polishing machine with the sector carriers oscillating around a longitudinal axis.

  • une couronne avec denture interne, laquelle est montée folle de manière excentrique par rapport à l'arbre moteur, engage deux roues dentées, desquelles une est calée sur l'arbre moteur et l'autre est montée folle sur celui-ci et est solidaire avec une came à gorge annulaire;
  • l'arbre de chaque porte-secteur est muni d'un premier goujon vertical solidaire avec un rouleau guidé dans la gorge de ladite came et d'un deuxième goujon, transversal par rapport à l' arbre et dépassant de celui-ci;
This result was achieved, in accordance with the invention, by adopting the idea of making a head for a polishing machine with a vertical drive shaft with a drive flange for a casing, in which:
  • a ring gear with internal teeth, which is mounted idly eccentrically to the drive shaft, engages two toothed wheels, one of which is wedged on the drive shaft and the other is mounted idle on the latter and is integral with an annular groove cam;
  • the shaft of each sector holder is provided with a first vertical stud secured to a roller guided in the groove of said cam and with a second stud, transverse with respect to the shaft and projecting from it;
  • a ring mounted on the shaft of each sector holder, fixed on the housing, which is provided with two buttonholes with helical track in which the ends of the stud are housed above from the corresponding sector holder.

The advantages obtained thanks to the present invention essentially consist in that the formation of circular scratches on the polished surface is avoided; that it is possible to increase the degree of finishing of polished surfaces; whereas, with equal treatment time and degree of finishing, it is possible to treat a larger area; that it is possible to increase the speed of advance of the polishing machine; that it is very reliable, even after a long period of operation.

These advantages and characteristics of the invention as well as others will be more and better understood by each person skilled in the art in the light of the description which will follow and with the aid of the appended drawing given by way of practical example of the invention, but not to be considered in the limiting sense; drawing in which the single figure represents the perspective view, partially in section, of a head for a polishing machine according to the invention.

  • une couronne (14) avec denture interne, laquelle est montée folle de manière excentrique par rapport à l'arbre (1), laquelle, avec la partie supérieure de ses dents, engage une roue dentée (4) calée sur l' arbre (1) et, avec la partie inférieure des dents, engage une roue dentée (5) montée folle sur l'arbre (1), avec laquelle est solidaire une came (6) à gorge annulaire;
  • l'arbre (9) de chaque porte-secteur (12) est muni d'un premier goujon (15) vertical, portant un rouleau (8) qui est guidé dans la gorge (7) de ladite came (6) et d'un deuxième goujon (11) transversal par rapport à l'arbre (9) et dépassant de celui-ci;
Reduced to its essential structure and with reference to the figure of the appended drawing, a head for a polishing machine with a vertical drive shaft (1), with a flange (2) for driving a casing (3) carrying several sector carriers (12) wedged on horizontal shafts (9), in accordance with the invention, comprises:
  • a crown (14) with internal teeth, which is mounted madly eccentrically with respect to the shaft (1), which, with the upper part of its teeth, engages a toothed wheel (4) wedged on the shaft (1) and, with the lower part of the teeth, engages a toothed wheel (5) idle mounted on the shaft (1), with which is secured an annular groove cam (6);
  • the shaft (9) of each sector holder (12) is provided with a first vertical stud (15), carrying a roller (8) which is guided in the groove (7) of said cam (6) and of a second stud (11) transverse to the shaft (9) and projecting from it;
  • a ring (10) mounted on the shaft (9) of each sector holder (12) and integral with the casing (3), which is provided with two buttonholes (17) with helical track in which the ends of the stud are housed (11) mentioned above of the corresponding sector holder (12).

The horizontal rotation of the shaft (1), and with it of the cam (6), determines a rotary movement of the rollers (8) and, at the same time, their alternative horizontal translation which, by means of the studs (15 ), also causes an alternating axial movement of the sector carriers (12). Simultaneously, given that the stud (11) of each shaft (9) slides in the guide (17) of the corresponding ring (10), each sector holder (12) is also given an oscillating movement around the 'respective horizontal axis (90).

Ultimately, and in the case of a head with three sector carriers (12) and a cam (6) with three identical lobes, that is to say 120 ° each, the trajectory of each sector carrier by relative to the surface being treated is, for each 120 °, a closed curve which, over 60 °, is a spiral arc whose radius increases from the minimum value to the maximum value, the difference being equal to the axial translation of the shaft 9, and, on the successive 60 °, is a spiral arc whose radius decreases from the maximum value to the minimum value.

Advantageously, in accordance with the invention, the transmission ratio of the gear train determined by the toothed wheels (4,5,14) is variable as a function of the desired frequency of the alternating axial movement and of the oscillatory movement of the sector carriers ( 12).
Furthermore, it is advantageously provided to vary the lifting of the cam (6) as a function of the desired value for the axial movement of the sector carriers (12).

In the same way, it is advantageously provided to vary the inclination of the buttonholes (17) of the rings (10) as a function of the desired amplitude of the oscillations of the sector carriers (12) around their corresponding axis (90).
In addition, the direction of inclination of the buttonholes (17) of two adjacent rings (10) can be discordant or respectively concordant, to obtain a discordant oscillation or respectively concordant of two adjacent sector carriers (12).

It goes without saying that a head for a polishing machine according to the invention can be equipped with a variable number of sector carriers (12), depending on the specific use for which it is intended.
