Die Fräswalze ist zur Längsachse des Baumstammes schräggestellt und ist von unten nach oben zu den Mitnehmern ansteigend so ausgerichtet, daß seine Hüllfläche die von den Mitnehmern definierte Ebene von unten her im wesentlichen tangential berührt. Mit dieser bekannten Vorrichtung können Anschwellungen am Wurzelende von Baumstämmen entfernt werden. Apparatus for reducing root swellings on tree trunks (2) with a means (8, 25, 26, 28) for supporting and turning the tree trunk (2) and with a rotating roller-type cutting tool (3), which may be placed against the root end of the tree trunk (2), wherein the means (8, 25) for supporting the tree trunk has continuously circulating drivers (26, 28) preferably in the form of toothed conveyor chains, characterised in that the cutting tool (3) is mounted to pivot in the machine frame (10) out of a ready position, in which it encloses an acute angle with the rotational axis of the tree trunk (2), by reducing this angle; and that in all positions of the cutting tool (3), the uppermost generatrix of the enveloping surface of the cutting tool (3) is essentially disposed in the plane determined by the drivers (26) which support the tree trunk (2) from below and set it in rotation.

  11. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 to 10, characterised in that the drivers (28) supporting the tree trunk (2) laterally are disposed in the area of the end of the drivers (26) located at a lower level.
  12. Apparatus according to one of Claims 6 to 11, characterised in that the guide plates (8) for the drivers (28) supporting the tree trunk (2) laterally are connected via profile tubes (31) to a frame, which may be swivelled by means of a common drive (29, 30) around an axis (34) aligned parallel to the axis of the tree trunk (2) out of their position essentially perpendicular to the plane defined by the drivers (26) into a position in which the drivers (28) are disposed in essentially the same plane as drivers (26).
  13. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 to 12, characterised in that at least two drivers (26) supporting the tree trunk from below and at least two drivers (28) supporting the tree trunk laterally are provided; and that at least one of drivers (26) and at least one of drivers (28) may be displaced in the machine frame (10) in the direction of the axis of the tree trunk.
