Description

The invention relates to a method for adjusting the tongue position of the tongue drive in the tamping unit of a brush manufacturing machine, in which the tongue is clamped in a holder of the tamping tool, and a device for carrying out this method.

In Beborstungsmaschinen (siehe z.B. In brushing machines (see, for example, US-A-2374415) for brush production, brush bodies of various types and sizes are often processed. The bristle bundles are fastened in the holes of the brush body using a loop or a flat anchor. The bristle bundle is inserted with a loop or flat anchor through the reciprocating tongue of a stuffing tool into a hole in the brush body. In order for the bundle of bristles to be securely anchored in the hole in the brush body, the tongue must penetrate to a certain depth in the hole in the brush body, this depth depending on the shape and size of the respective brush body and must therefore be adjusted on a case-by-case basis. The correct value of the depth of penetration is empirically determined at the start of production detected. The setting must be made again each time the tongue is changed. This adjustment of the tongue position in the tongue drive is a delicate process because it has to be done very precisely and requires a lot of skill and experience. On the other hand, it often happens that the tongue of a stuffing unit is damaged and has to be replaced. Because of the required setting of each new tongue, there are considerable downtimes in the operation of the bristle machine.

The invention provides a method for adjusting the tongue position of a tamping unit, in which the replacement of a tongue can be done without difficult adjustment work and within a very short time, so that the downtimes are reduced to a minimum. According to the invention, a set of tongues is first provided, each of which is provided with a stop which has the same distance from the tongue tip for all tongues within a predetermined tolerance range. The tongue drive of the stuffing unit is in turn provided with a stop. This stop is set for the first time to the type of brush to be manufactured taking into account the length of the tongue used for this type of brush. The stop of the tongue is brought into contact with the stop of the tongue drive. In this position, the tongue is then clamped in the holder of the tongue drive. When replacing a damaged tongue, a new tongue is now removed from the set and replaced in the holder of the tongue drive instead of the damaged tongue, its stop abutting the stop of the tongue drive and the tongue being clamped in this position. When replacing a tongue, it is therefore not necessary to readjust the type of brush to be manufactured. Because within a given amount of Tongues the distance between the tip of the tongue and the stop is the same, the process of replacing a tongue can be repeated as often as required without a new setting. Should it become apparent in the course of operation that the depth of penetration of the tongue is not optimal, for example because the nature of the brush body is subject to fluctuations or an unfavorable summation of tolerances has arisen after a large number of tongue changes, the stop on the tamping tool can easily be readjusted .

Now that the previously provided set of tongues of the same distance between the stop and the tip of the tongue is exhausted, a new set of tongues is simply provided in which the distance between the stop and the tip of the tongue is also the same, but different from the corresponding distance of the preceding set of tongues can. The stop of the tongue drive is then adjusted by an amount which corresponds to the difference between the distances from the tip of the tongue to the stop for the tongues of the new quantity and that of the previously used quantity of tongues. The new set of tongues is preferably made from tongues that have already been used by shortening (grinding) them.

In the event of a malfunction, the tongue may encounter unexpectedly high resistance. There is then a risk that it will be damaged prematurely. According to a preferred embodiment, this is avoided in that the tongue is received in a longitudinally displaceable manner in the holder and clamped under a predetermined clamping tension, the stop on the tongue facing away from its end. The predetermined clamping voltage is such that the tongue, when it encounters an unforeseen high resistance, is displaced by overcoming its clamping in the holder, its stop moving away from the stop on the stuffing tool. The relative movement between the stop on the tongue and the stop on the tamping tool is preferably determined by means of a detector, for example a switch, in order to quickly switch off the machine to be able to trigger.

According to a development of the invention, the tongue holder is in turn resiliently supported against the drive unit. The spring force of this resilient support is dimensioned such that it is overcome before the predetermined clamping force on the tongue is overcome. In this way it is achieved that the tongue penetrates more or less deeply into the brush body, depending on the nature of the brush body. Holes of different depths can therefore be bristled without the machine being switched off.

A device for performing the method comprises a mounting block in the tongue drive, which has a continuous channel for receiving a tongue. On this mounting block, a stop block is slidably arranged parallel to the direction of extension of the channel. It can be clamped to the mounting block in different positions. The position of the stop block on the mounting block can preferably be adjusted by means of an adjusting screw, for example a micrometer screw.

Advantageous developments of the device are specified in the subclaims.

In Fig. 1 of a bristle machine, only the mounting of a tongue on the tongue drive of a tamping unit is shown; the bristling machine is of conventional design in the usual manner and is therefore not described in more detail.

The holder consists of a holder block 10, in which a longitudinally extending channel 12 for the longitudinally displaceable receiving of a tongue 14 is formed. The channel 12 is provided with a lateral opening 16 through which a clamping member 18 passes and can come into engagement with the surface of the tongue 14. On the mounting block 10, a clamping block 20 is pivotally mounted on a pin 22. In the clamping block 20, the clamping member 18 is slidably received in a recess 24 towards the channel 12 or away from it. The clamping member 18 can be clamped against the opposite surface of the tongue 14 by means of a clamping screw 26 screwed into a threaded bore of the clamping block 20. The clamping screw 26 is provided with a head 28 for engagement by means of a torque wrench. The clamping block 20 can be clamped to the mounting block 10 in the position shown in FIG. The clamping block 20 is provided with a stop surface 20a, which in this position is clamped against the outer surface of the mounting block 10, so that the clamping block 20 assumes a precisely defined and reproducible position on the mounting block when the clamping screw 30 is tightened.

The tongue 14 protrudes on both sides of the mounting block 10 out of the channel 12. At its end facing away from the tip of the tongue (not shown in FIG. 1), the tongue 14 is provided with a stop part 34 which forms a stop 36 on its side facing the tip of the tongue. This Stop 36 is in contact with a stop 38 of a stop block 40, which is arranged on the mounting block 10 so as to be displaceable parallel to the direction of extent of the channel 12. The stop block 40 is provided with a bracket 40a, on which the stop 38 is formed and which is provided with an opening for the passage of the tongue 14. The stop block 40 is clamped to the holder block 10 in the selected position by means of a clamping screw 42 which has a manual actuation handle 44 and extends through a bore in the stop block 40 and engages in a threaded hole in the holder block 10. Its position relative to the mounting block 10 can be precisely adjusted beforehand by means of an adjusting screw 46. This adjusting screw 46, for example a micrometer screw, is rotatably mounted in the bracket 40a of the stop block 40 and screwed into a threaded bore of the mounting block 10.

The tongue 14, as shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, consists of a tongue shaft 14a and a tongue leaf 14b, which in the embodiment according to FIGS. 2 and 3 is firmly connected to the tongue shaft 14a, in the embodiment according to FIG 4, however, is interchangeably inserted in the tongue shaft 14.

The length of the tongue between the tip of the tongue and the stop 36 is designated L₁. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, the length L₁ is equal to the sum of the length of the tongue leaf 14b and the distance between the stop 36 and the end thereof facing a slot 14c in which the tongue leaf 14b is received.

The first special feature of the method according to the invention is that a set of tongues 14 is provided, in which the dimension L 1, that is the distance between the tip of the tongue and the stop 36, is the same within a predetermined tolerance range, for example ± 0.005 mm. When first setting the type of brush to be produced, a tongue 14 is removed from this quantity and inserted into the channel 12 of the mounting block 10. Both the Terminal block 20 and the stop block 40 are initially solved. The stop block 40 is brought by means of the adjusting screw 46 into a position on the mounting block 10 which, taking into account the dimension L 1 of the tongue when its stop 36 abuts against the stop 38 of the stop block 40, is suitable for the type of brush to be produced. The stop block 40 is then clamped to the mounting block 10 by rotating the clamping screw 42. Furthermore, the clamping block 20 is clamped to the mounting block 10 by means of the clamping screw 30. The clamping screw 26 is then turned by means of a torque wrench until the clamping member 18 is braced with the desired force against the opposite surface of the tongue 14. This setting of the tongue 14 is then checked for its suitability, whereupon a correction is made if necessary. For this purpose, the clamping screws 30 and 42 are loosened and the adjusting screw 46 is actuated in the desired sense. When the stop block 40 is adjusted in the direction of the tip of the tongue, the stop 36 of the tongue is then brought back into contact with the stop 38 of the stop block 40. Then the clamping screws 30 and 42 are tightened again. It is not necessary to readjust the clamping screw 26. If the tongue position is optimized after a certain number of adjustment processes, the one-off process of empirical adjustment is ended.

If, after a certain operating time, the tongue 14 is damaged due to aging or due to an unforeseen load, the clamping screw 30 is loosened and the clamping block 20 is pivoted away from the mounting block 10. The damaged tongue 14 can now be pulled out of the channel 12. Then a new one is removed from the previously provided set of tongues 14 of the same dimension L 1 and inserted into the channel 12 of the mounting block 10 instead of the damaged tongue until its stop 36 abuts the stop 38 of the stop block 40. Then the clamping block 20 is pivoted again against the mounting block 10 and the clamping screw 30 is tightened. The new tongue 14 now takes exactly the same position as before with the front end of its tongue tip the replaced tongue. A new hiring is not necessary. At most, a readjustment may be desired when there is a change in the nature of the brush body or after a large number of tongue changes, but this can easily be done by means of the adjusting screw 46.

If now the amount of previously provided tongues with the same dimension L₁ is exhausted, a new amount of tongues is provided, in which the dimension L₁ is also the same within a predetermined tolerance range. This measure can be different from the corresponding measure of the amount used previously. The difference in this dimension between the two quantities is recorded and compensated for using the adjusting screw 16. The tongues from the new set can then be used without any further adjustment. A new set of tongues can be made from damaged tongues, for example by shortening them by grinding the tips of the tongues. In this way, the tongues can be reused several times.

A particularly cost-saving solution is obtained if, according to the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, each tongue consists of a tongue shaft 14a and a tongue leaf 14b which is interchangeably inserted into a slot 14c thereof. Then only the tongue blades 14b need to be replaced. Preferably, then the dimension L₃ is always the same size for each tongue shaft 14a. Only the length L₂ of the tongue blade 14b is then different from one quantity to the next.

The tension of the clamping screw 26 is set so that the tongue 14 is held in the channel 12 of the mounting block 10 with a predetermined frictional force. If the tongue 14 encounters an unforeseen high resistance at its tip, this frictional force is overcome and the tongue 14 is displaced in the channel 12, its stop 36 being moved away from the stop 38 of the mounting block 40. This relative movement between tongue 14 and stop 38 is carried out by means of a suitable detector, for example an electrical switch, to trigger a rapid shutdown of the bristle machine.
