Abstract

In the case of a surface-heating element, consisting of heating wires which are arranged essentially parallel, are electrically connected at their ends and/or bend points to power-supply conductors and are embedded in a textile base material, it is intended to make possible uniform heating of the entire heating-up element surface, while at the same time increasing the flexibility. This is achieved in that the heating conductors (1) run in a sinusoidal shape over gauze threads (2) of a knitted base material, as weft threads, and are bonded into the gauze of the textile base material at least at the maxima of the amplitudes, the power-supply conductors (3) being arranged as a contact strip (4) on the mutually opposite periodic edges (5) at right angles to the axis of the sinusoid, and each heating conductor (1) being electrically conductively connected to each contact conductor. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a surface heating element, in particular for seat heaters in the motor vehicle sector, consisting of heating wires arranged essentially in parallel, which are connected at their ends and / or deflection points to power supply conductors and which are embedded in a textile base material, and a method for their production.

A surface heating element of the type mentioned is known from DE-OS 29 48 047. It is a fabric with warp threads made of insulating material and weft threads made of electrically conductive wire, which together form a resistance or heating grid. The weft threads are made from individual deflected wires, the ends of which are connected to one another in a parallel connection. The parallel connection takes place via fixed connection elements such as cable lugs, welded sheet metal brackets or the like, so that the resistance or heating grid described is limited in its area of application to rigid or semi-rigid elements.

The object of the present invention is to enable a uniform heating of the entire heating element surface with a simultaneous increase in flexibility in a surface heating element of the type mentioned at the beginning.

In addition, a process for the continuous production of surface heating elements, in particular car seat covers, is to be developed, which enables cutting from the roll.

This object is achieved by the features specified in the patent claims.

It has been found that a flexible and at the same time dimensionally stable surface heating element can be produced by the combination of a knitted textile base material with a sinusoidally inserted heating conductor as a weft thread in the mesh threads.

The knitting process used enables fringe-weft binding as well as continuous production using production machines with high economic efficiency. Here, a metallic heating wire is inserted in the partial weft process in the mesh of a textile knitted fabric, the heating conductor being guided over a separate sine-shaped laying rail with a larger or smaller amplitude, as required.

Fig. 1 zeigt
The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment.
Fig. 1 shows
a section of the surface heating element according to the invention in plan view.

The surface heating element consists of a multiplicity of mesh threads 2 running in parallel, in which a heating conductor 1 is inserted sinusoidally. In the area of the power supply conductor 3, the heating conductor 1 runs parallel over a distance S, then crosses the previously adjacent power supply conductor 3 and then again runs parallel to the starting point, etc.

This parallel guidance in the area of the path S creates a long contact zone between the heating conductor 1 and the power supply conductor 3, the actual binding between the two taking place through the meshes laid around it.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the contact area is reinforced by increased mesh formation. This can be achieved both by meshes of textile material and by meshes of metallic material, in the latter case a metal wire mesh is created in the contact zone.

By the method according to the invention of the action of a heating conductor in a basic textile fabric, the previous problems in the manufacture of surface heating elements are successfully solved. The elasticity of the element can be achieved within wide limits by the choice of a suitable yarn and the number of stitches or the mesh size.

Building yarns have proven to be suitable for particularly flexible surface heating elements. Metal wires made of steel and aluminum or metallic filament yarns have been successfully tested as material for the heating conductor.

The use of carbon fibers has proven itself for surface heating elements with particularly high tensile stress in the fiber direction. At the same time, they offer the advantage of good corrosion resistance and easier processing. Because of their lower tenacity compared to steel fibers, the loops do not stand up when inserted into the knitted fabric of the basic textile material, so that the processing operation takes place unhindered at high speed of the weft wire.

As can be seen from FIG. 1, the power supply conductors 3 are arranged as a contact strip 4 on the opposite repeat edges 5 at right angles to the sine axis and each heating conductor 1 is electrically connected to each contact conductor.
