In an adjustable-length vacuum cleaner tube consisting of an inner tube (1) and an outer tube (7), a guide piece (6) for a displaceably mounted blocking member (8) is inserted from the outside in an opening of the outer tube which has a constant diameter over its length. A sleeve surrounding the outer tube also covers the guide piece with the blocking member (8), the blocking member (8) being adjustable by means of an actuating knob (15) in such a way that a catch member (4) which engages in a catch notch (3) of the inner tube (1) can be adjusted from a catch position into a release position. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a variable-length intake manifold according to the preamble of claim 1.

A known length-adjustable suction tube for vacuum cleaners (US-PS 3351363) has two tubes which are displaceable one inside the other, the inner tube not only having a guide groove which extends in the axial direction but also a plurality of locking notches which are arranged at a distance from one another in the axial direction. At the end lying in the outer tube, the inner tube carries a seal which bears against the inner wall of the outer tube and guides the inner tube in a centered manner. The end of the outer tube that overlaps the inner tube is cylindrically widened, a guide piece being fixed in the widening, which keeps the inner tube centered and in which the inner tube is slidably guided. In the guide piece there is a radially directed opening, in which a radially adjustable locking member is seated, which in its locking position cooperates with one of the locking notches and prevents the tubes from being axially displaced. The round locking member is operatively connected to an inclined plane serving as a locking member, which is adjustably arranged with respect to the locking member and immerses the locking member radially non-adjustable in the locking position in the locking position. By moving the locking member into a release position, a free space lying radially outside the locking member becomes released, in which the locking member moves when the tubes are adjusted relative to each other and the locking member is lifted out of the recess. The locking member is integrally coupled to a sleeve which is movably mounted on the widened section of the outer tube and can be adjusted manually. The guide piece arranged in the gap between the widened section of the outer tube and the inner tube is secured against adjustment in the axial and circumferential directions by flanging the free edge of the outer tube in a radially inward direction. The widening and subsequent flanging of the outer tube requires a high expenditure of tools for the manufacturing process, the flanging can lead to a compression of the guide piece which prevents rapid sliding. In addition, the dimensionally accurate expansion is difficult to carry out, so that this too can result in the guide piece being too tightly seated on the inner tube or, if the expansion is too great, a sufficiently tight seal cannot be guaranteed.

The invention has for its object to take measures in a suction pipe according to the preamble of claim 1, through which a simplified structure is achieved.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1.

In one embodiment of a suction pipe according to the invention, there is no need to widen the outer pipe in the area of the latching device, so that the outer pipe can run freely with the same diameter. In the jacket of the outer tube, only an opening for the adapted guide piece is required, which is secured against displacement in the axial and in the circumferential direction. The guide piece is preferably supported in its edge region on the outer edge of the opening, so that it cannot step into the sliding system with the inner tube. The guide piece with the inserted locking element is secured by the slid-on sleeve, which encloses the jacket of the outer tube and also the guide piece. If the locking member designed in the manner of an inclined plane is integrally connected to the sleeve, the locking member can extend in the circumferential direction so that the locking member can be pressed out or into its locking position by rotating the sleeve. If the locking member extends in the axial direction, the sleeve need only be displaceable in the axial direction. In both cases, it is expedient to apply the force of a spring to the sleeve so that it automatically moves the locking member into the locking position. However, the sleeve is preferably arranged such that it cannot be adjusted relative to the outer tube and, if appropriate, is fastened directly thereon. The locking member is then to be designed as a separately adjustable component and to be connected via a connecting piece to an actuating button arranged on the outside of the sleeve for manual actuation. For this purpose, the locking member adjustable against the force of a spring is mounted in particular between the guide piece and the sleeve. A slot in the jacket of the sleeve is then required for its actuation, through which the connecting piece reaches as far as the actuation button. The locking member can be adjustable in the circumferential direction if the slot also runs in the circumferential direction and is in particular axially displaceable in the case of an axially extending slot. The sleeve can tightly enclose the outer tube and have a radial shape in the region of the guide piece, which also guide the adjustable locking member and on which the actuating button can be arranged. For centering and tight guiding of the inner tube 1, it is expedient to assign a sealing ring to the sleeve in the region of the adjacent end of the outer tube, which can be integrally formed thereon or attached to it as a separate component. In addition, the sleeve can Wear a radially inward-facing pin which engages in the longitudinal guide groove stamped into the inner tube and prevents relative rotation between the tubes. To secure the sleeve in the axial direction, it is expedient if, on the one hand, it rests with a collar on the front edge of the outer tube and, on the other hand, it engages with the guide piece held in the outer tube, for example via a snap-in connection.

A telescopically variable in length suction tube for vacuum cleaners has an inner tube 1, which is provided with an embossed guide groove 2 extending in the axial direction. A plurality of locking notches 3, which are arranged at a distance from one another in the axial direction and are designed to interact with a round locking member 4, are also preferably pressed into the lateral surface of the inner tube 1. The locking member 4 engages in the locking position shown in the locking notch and sits in the rest of a cutout 5 of a guide piece 6, which with its edge zone on the outer edge of an opening in the outer surface of the inner tube 1 with play surrounding outer tube 7 is provided. The guide piece 6 engages in this opening 7.1, positively and tightly and is thus secured against adjustment in the axial direction and in the circumferential direction. Its collar 6a positions it simultaneously in the radial direction, so that it cannot be pressed against the inner tube 1. In addition to the locking member 4, the guide piece 6 also guides a locking member 8 which is mounted perpendicularly to it and is displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the tube and which can be moved against the force of a spring 9. In the locking position shown, the locking member 8 engages radially on the outside on the locking member 4 and holds the same in the locking notch 3. By moving the locking member 8 against the force of the spring 9 so far (in the present case according to FIG. 1 to the right) that it comes out of the overlap area with the Locking member 4 arrives, then a free space is released radially outside the locking member 4 in the release position then reached, in which the locking member 4 can move. The free space is dimensioned so high that the locking member 4 comes out of the effective area of the inner tube 1 or the locking notches 3. The flanks of the locking notches 3 are inclined so that the locking member 4 is automatically lifted out of the locking notch by relative displacement of the tubes 1,7. The free space for the locking member 4 is radially limited by a stop web 10, which can be integrally connected to the locking member 8. The outer tube 7 has the same diameter throughout, insofar as the inner tube can engage with it. The outer tube 7 carries, in the region of the latching device containing the guide piece 6, a sleeve 11 which lies closely against the outer surface and which has a radial shape 12 only in the area of the guide piece 6 and the locking member 8 held thereon. The shape overlaps the two parts 6, 7 so that they are secured against radial adjustment. The stop web 10 lies on the inside of the formation 12 in a sliding manner. In the formation 12 there is an in Slit 13 extending axially, through which a connecting web 14 engages, which is integrally connected to a displaceable actuating button 15 arranged on the top of the formation 12 and is in a releasable plug connection with the locking member 8. In parallel to the connecting web 14, limiting webs 16 are also formed on the actuating button 15, which engage the guide piece 6 or the locking member 8 designed as a locking slide.

Since the sleeve 11 tightly encloses the outer tube 7 over half the circumference and the guide piece 6 engages in the adapted radial shape 12, the sleeve 11 is secured against twisting and radial adjustment. For fixing in the axial direction, it has a stop collar 17 which engages in front of the free end edge 18 of the outer tube end, while the axially opposite end of the sleeve 11 or the formation 12 engages behind the guide piece 6 by means of a radially inwardly directed latching lug 18. The sleeve 11 is thus arranged in an unadjustable manner with respect to the outer tube 7, but can be released again by lifting out the catch 19.

For centering the inner tube 1 in the outer tube 7, on the one hand, a sealing ring 20, which in the present case is integrally connected to the stop collar 17, is used, which surrounds the inner tube tightly and centers and slidably guides. In addition, a sealing ring 21 is arranged at the end of the inner tube inserted into the outer tube 7, which also bridges the gap between the two tubes 1.7 and, in addition to an airtight seal, also accomplishes the centering between the tubes 1.7. The sleeve 11 also carries a radially inwardly directed pin 22 which engages in the guide groove 2 and thus prevents a relative rotation of the tubes 1,7.

A suction pipe designed in this way can be assembled in an automatic production device after only the guide piece 6 with the locking member 8 and the spring 9 is to be inserted radially from the outside into the adapted opening in the outer pipe 7 and then only the inner pipe with the sleeve 11 already threaded onto the outer pipe introduced and the sleeve must be pushed onto the outer tube and the attached parts 6,8,9. The actuating button 15 then only needs to be plugged in in the radial direction.

According to the embodiment according to FIG. 4, a recess 23 adapted to the locking member 4 can be provided in the locking member 8, otherwise the structure being the same, the spring 9 being designed as a tension spring. In the unlocking position shown, the pipes 1, 7 can be freely moved axially against one another, the latching member 4 being lifted upward into the recess 23 when there is no latching notch 3 below it. If the actuating button 15 is released when the latching member 4 has fallen into a latching notch 3 and the tension spring 9 z. B. drawn to the right in the drawing until the locking member 8 is above the locking member 4, then the locking member 4 is arvetiert in the locking notch 3 and a further axial displacement of the tubes 1.7 is no longer possible.
