Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed, provided with a seat element and with a back element which is connected thereto, which is connected to it by a hinge to rotate one relative to the other. seat element and back element between an automatically stabilized position of the seat, in which the angle between the two elements is minimal and a lying position of the bed, in which the angle between the two elements is maximum, and which, plus, is equipped with lugs to support the seat element in the sitting position and the seat element and the back element in the reclining position of the cabinet.
  • Folding bed seats such as daybeds are known in multiple embodiments.
  • the seat element and the back element are suspended in a base frame via an adjustment mechanism, the base frame being formed by elements forming legs linked together, elements of the armrests and elements of liaison.
  • the adjustment mechanism is often equipped with a spring in order to simplify the movements of the elements with respect to each other.
  • a problem then arises, namely that the spring adjustment mechanism operates alone if the base chassis has sufficient mass, which requires heavy execution of its base chassis, which has the consequence that all the furniture, which must be removed a certain distance from the wall before it can be transformed from bench to bed in order to make room for the backrest element which can be folded backwards, is very difficult to move and causes difficulties during its installation.
  • a seat convertible into a bed of the kind cited above is known from American patent US-A-2,754,888.
  • the backrest element is automatically stabilized in the sitting position because the legs are fixed to the backrest element, said legs supporting the piece of furniture in the sitting position near the hinge between the seat element and the 'backrest element so that the backrest element undergoes a load forward via the legs due to the weight of the furniture and a person possibly sitting on it.
  • a real locking of the back element with respect to the seat element does not take place, which creates the danger that when a person rests on the element backrest, it goes down spontaneously.
  • a foldable seat of the same type which is provided with a locking mechanism between the seat element and the backrest element of the cabinet in order to lock one relative to the other the two elements in the sitting position of the furniture, but this locking installation consists of a fixing pin which must be arranged by hand which means that an additional number of operations are necessary during the installation of the furniture between sitting and lying positions, which is not desirable.
  • FIG. 1 Another embodiment of a seat convertible into a bed is known from FR-A-1,438,285.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a folding seat in a bed of the type described in the preamble, in which the problems which arise in furniture known to date are remedied.
  • the seat convertible into a bed according to the invention is characterized in that between the back element and the seat element there is arranged a locking device for locking between them the seat element and the back element, in the sitting position, said locking device being able to be unlocked when the back element is tilted backwards tilting towards the lying position and can be automatically locked again when the back element is tilted again from the lying position towards the sitting position.
  • the seat element and the back element are locked in the sitting position of the piece of furniture on the one hand, which solves the problem of instability, while on the other hand the locking and unlocking of the
  • the locking installation takes place automatically during movements causing the adjustment of the cabinet. Because in the furniture according to the invention no base frame is present, the furniture can be executed in a light way which allows to easily execute the tilting movements.
  • a very simple embodiment of the furniture locking installation according to the invention can be obtained in which the locking device is unlockable and lockable under the influence of gravity.
  • Gravity can be used because during the tilting of the piece of furniture its position in relation to the vector of the gravitational force changes which makes it possible to manipulate the locking system under the influence of gravity.
  • the locking installation comprises a movable locking element arranged on the seat element or the back element and a counter-element mounted fixed on the back element or the seat element as well as stops formed under the seat element and back element to limit the tilting angle of the back element and the seat element between the sitting and lying positions.
  • the backrest element can, in the seating position of the cabinet, be locked in both directions of tilting relative to the seat element, because the stops prevent the tilting of the backrest element forward. and the locking element prevents the back element from tilting backwards.
  • the stops also ensure that the maximum angle between the seat element and the back element is fixed at 180 ° for example in order also to ensure in the lying position of the furniture good stability thereof.
  • an advantageous embodiment of the locking element and the counter-element is characterized in that the locking element consists of a locking cam suspended in rotation from the back element by means of a pin and the counter-element consists of a locking surface for the hinge formed on the seat part, a surface which, in the seated position of the cabinet, is located under the trunnion at a distance beyond the hinge.
  • the locking cam In the seating position of the cabinet, the locking cam is engaged with the locking surface and thus locks the backrest element with respect to the seat element.
  • the locking cam pivots around the pin under the influence of gravity and moves it away from the locking plane which allows the passage of the locking plane to allow it and the backrest member to fold around the hinge between the seat portion and the backrest portion to reach the lying position.
  • the locking cam automatically engages with the locking plane because the locking cam returns in the opposite direction under the influence of gravity , which ensures automatic locking.
  • the legs of the furniture comprise, near the hinge between the seat element and the back element, support tabs which are fixed to the back element.
  • said legs pivot relative to the seat element when the backrest element is pivoted.
  • This allows to obtain in a simple way that the seat part, in the sitting position of the piece of furniture, facing with the horizontal, an angle different from that which is obtained in the lying position. It is thus possible to give the seat element of the cabinet, in the seated position, a position which deviates from the horizontal and this for comfort or from an ergonomic point of view, while thanks to the dimensioning and the correct position of said legs an automatic adjustment to the horizontal position of the seat element is achieved when the backrest element is pivoted.
  • the lower part of the legs must be executed so that movement on the ground is possible. This can for example be achieved using small sliding domes or even small wheels.
  • the legs intended for the back element which are not active in the sitting position of the piece of furniture and only serve to support the back part, in the lying position of the piece of furniture, can be executed in different ways.
  • the legs intended to support the piece of furniture near the hinge between the seat element and the back element and the legs intended to support the back element, in the supine position are executed as a fixed unit.
  • the legs of the backrest extend, in the sitting position of the furniture, backwards, but this is not a drawback from the point of view of an attractive appearance of the furniture.
  • An attractive functional embodiment of the legs is that in which the legs intended to support the back element, in the lying position and the legs intended to support the seat element on either side of the piece of furniture form a whole and are executed in such a way that they constitute armrests in the sitting position of the piece of furniture, these legs being preferably hinged on the backrest element and freely support the seat element using a horizontal support element.
  • the legs of the backrest element of the cabinet are made automatically active and inactive when adjusting between the sitting position and the lying position.
  • FIG. 1 very schematically shows a number of basic elements of a piece of furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed, according to the invention, the legs not being shown.
  • Figure 2 shows detail II of Figure 1, on a larger scale, the hinge and the locking device between the seat element and the backrest element of the furniture being shown.
  • Figures 3a-3c are three side views of an exemplary embodiment of a furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed according to the invention, the movements necessary to transform the seat into a bed being illustrated.
  • Figures 4a-4c are three side views corresponding to Figure 2 in positions which correspond to Figures 3a-3c.
  • Figure 5 is a side view of an alternative embodiment of the furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed, according to the invention, in which other legs intended to support the furniture, near the hinge between the seat element and the folder element, are applied.
  • Figures 6a-6b and 7a-7b show two side views of other embodiments of the furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed according to the invention, in the sitting position and in the lying position, various types of legs being applied.
  • FIGS. 7a-7b shows, on a larger scale, a side view of the control mechanism in the open position intended to control the legs intended to support the back element of the furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed according to FIGS. 7a-7b.
  • FIG. 1 show examples of execution of a furniture forming a seat convertible into a bed which, in most cases, will consist of a bench for two or three people which can be opened to form a double bed, although in principle it it would also be possible for the furniture to be executed in the form of a chair which can be deployed to form a crib.
  • Figure 1 shows a number of basic elements of the furniture according to the invention, that is to say a seat element 1 and a back element 2 which is connected thereto and which is connected to it by a hinge 3.
  • L seat element 1 and back element 2 may consist of a frame with separate slats joined together by the hinge 3, but it is also possible that the two elements 1 and 2 are made in one piece and that the hinge 3 is a plate flexible.
  • a folding mattress 4 On the bed is a folding mattress 4 which can however be replaced by a number of cushions.
  • a locking device 5 In order to lock the back element 2 and the seat element 1 between them, in the seating position of the piece of furniture shown in FIG. 1, so that an angular rotation between them is not possible, it is arranged , near the hinge 3, a locking device 5.
  • FIG. 2 shows in detail this locking device 5.
  • This locking device comprises a locking cam 6 which is pivotally suspended by one end to a pin 7 connected to the backrest element 2, so that the center of gravity of the locking cam is at a significant distance from the journal 7.
  • An active plane 8 belonging to the locking cam 6 and located farthest from the journal 7 is executed in the form of a circular segment whose axis corresponds to the axis geometrical of the pin 7.
  • the center of gravity of the locking cam 6 is located between the active plane 8 and the pin 7.
  • the locking plane 9 has on one side a rim 10.
  • means are also provided for limiting the angle of rotation between the seat element 1 and the back element 2, which make it possible to determine the lying position and the sitting position of the piece of furniture.
  • These means consist in this embodiment in a slot 11 in the form of a circular segment formed in the seat element and which extends concentrically around the hinge 3 as well as a tenon 12 which enters this slot 11, tenon which is fixed to the back element 2.
  • the angle over which the slot 11 extends determines the angle of rotation between the seat element and the back element.
  • Figures 3a-3c show the movements of the furniture for the passage from the sitting position (Figure 3a) to the lying position ( Figure 3c), while Figures 4a-4c which relate to illustrate the automatic operation of the locking facility that occurs on this occasion.
  • the cabinet is in the seated position and the backrest element 2 is locked in the two tilting positions, i.e. in front when the pin 12 fixed to the seat element is in contact with the end plane of the slot 11 and, in the rear, when the active plane 8 of the locking cam 6 bears against the locking plane 9 of the seat element.
  • the pin 7 of the locking cam 6 is located at a certain distance from the hinge 3 between the seat element 1 and the back element 2, the latter cannot move on an arc of a circle around the hinge 3 between the seat element 1 and the back element 2, movement which is prevented when the locking cam 6 bears on the locking plane 9 beyond the hinge 3.
  • Figures 3b and 4b show a position of the cabinet in which it is completely tilted back, so that the backrest element 2 has come to be placed horizontally.
  • the center of gravity of the locking cam 6 moves relative to the pin 7, thanks to which a moment caused by gravity is born around the pin 7, which tends to cause the cam to rotate. locking 6 around the pin 7.
  • the locking cam 6 has in fact been turned around the pin 7, so that the center of gravity is again under this pin 7.
  • the locking cam 6 is taken out of engagement with the locking plane 9 of the seat element, which has ended the blocking of the rotational movements between the back element and the seat element.
  • FIG. 3c and FIG. 4c show the lying position of the cabinet in which the seat element 1 has, after unlocking the locking installation 5, been tilted around the hinge towards a horizontal position and has been placed in the extension of the backrest element 2.
  • the lug 12 belonging to the backrest element 2 has therefore come into engagement with the opposite end of the slot made in the seat element 1, so that a subsequent tilting is no longer possible and that a stable lying position or lying position is achieved.
  • FIGs 3a-3c then show a first embodiment of the legs intended to support the furniture, both in the sitting position according to Figure 3a in the lying position according to Figure 3c.
  • These lugs include lugs 13 intended to support the seat element 1 near the free end remote from the backrest element 2, lugs 14 intended to support the piece of furniture near the hinge 3 between the seat element 1 and the backrest element 2, and lugs 15 for supporting the backrest element 2 near the free end disposed opposite the seat element 1, in the lying position according to FIG. 3c.
  • the legs 14 and 15 are executed in the form of a single unit fixed relative to the backrest element 2.
  • the fixing of the legs 14 near the hinge 3 has the advantage of providing the seat element 1, in the seated position, a different angle with respect to the horizontal than the angle in the lying position or lying position. This can be obtained by giving a larger dimension to the vertical distance between the lower end of the legs 14 and the element backrest 2 only at the vertical distance between the lower end of the legs 14 and the seat element 1 (cf. FIG. 5). It is therefore possible to give the furniture, in the seated position, a more comfortable position from an ergonomic point of view.
  • FIG 5 shows another embodiment of the legs for supporting the furniture near the hinge 3 between the seat element 1 and the backrest element 2, these legs 14 being executed in the form of a curved rod fixed to the back element 2.
  • the legs 14 that in the seated position the rear and lower end of the legs 14 is preferably, as far as possible, towards the rear, in order to prevent tilting backwards.
  • the lower end of the legs 14 which are fixed to the back element 2 must be before the hinge 3, below the seat element 1, to prevent the bed from folds up to the hinge (see also Figure 3c).
  • Figures 6a and 6b show another embodiment of the legs 13 and 15, which, in this case, are part of a continuous curved element 16 which, apart from its role as a leg, can also, in the seated position of the furniture, act as armrest (figure 6a) and in the lying position act as support for the head, respectively for the feet (figure 6b).
  • the arched element 16 is pivotally connected by a hinge 17 with the back element 2, while the element 16 of form arched supports the seat element 1 by means of a transverse rod 18 or the like, so that a displacement or a rotation between the seat element 1 and the form element arched 16 is possible.
  • FIG. 7a and 7b show yet another example of execution of the legs 15 for supporting the backrest element 2 in the lying position.
  • the legs 15 are, in this case, pivotally connected by a hinge 19 to the back element 2, so that in the seated position of the cabinet (FIG. 7a) they can pivot inwards, towards a inactive position and, in the seated position of the bed, do not protrude backwards.
  • the legs 15 are then extended, so that they can support the back element 2.
  • This extraction or inward folding of the legs 15 of the back element 2 can take place automatically by making use of the pivoting movement between the seat element 1 and the back element 2.
  • An example of execution of such a control mechanism 20 is reproduced in FIG. 8.
  • the control mechanism 20 comprises a rod 21 which is connected to the hinge by one of its ends to the lug 15 at a distance from the hinge 19 between the lug 15 and the back element 2 and which, at its other end, is connected to the hinge with the seat element 1 which has an extension 22 which extends beyond the hinge 3 between the seat element 1 and the back element 2.
  • the invention provides a seat forming furniture convertible into a bed which is distinguished by its simple and light construction and which is very stable both in the lying position and in the sitting position. Thanks to the compact construction and the automatic locking control between the seat element and the backrest element of the piece of furniture, this set can be hidden from view and does not affect the design of the shape of the piece of furniture. Controlling the furniture by adjusting between the seat and bed positions is simple and easy.
  • the locking element of the locking installation in the form of a ball or a cylinder which, under the influence of gravity, can roll in a groove or the like and block a counter -element when tilting the cabinet.
