Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for grinding plastic or glass, in particular for grinding acrylic glass, in which a machine-driven grinding tool is moved over a processing surface.
When finely machining a plastic or glass surface, conventional methods are generally used for wet grinding with a liquid working medium.
For this purpose, a polishing paste is applied to the surface to be processed, which is in a liquid working medium, e.g. Water is used for the machining process with the help of a mechanically driven polishing disc.
This process is very complex and expensive, since new liquid has to be added continuously in order to avoid scratches and scoring on the surface to be processed. The constant contact with the liquid working medium, in which the polishing paste and abrasion parts are suspended from the processing surface, is very unpleasant.
When processing transparent materials, which must be done with optical quality, there is a further disadvantage due to wet processing. Since the view through the polishing paste and abrasion material is severely restricted during the grinding or polishing process, the processing surface must be rinsed out from time to time in order to check the result of the processing carried out and to assess the quality of the surface. Especially in the case of machining, there is therefore a risk that the machining surface will be partially ground down too much, which has a disadvantageous effect.
No. 3,230,672 has made known an abrasive material which enables a fine machining of surfaces without the use of polishing pastes. Here, grinding wheels are resiliently embedded on a carrier material. The grinding wheels have largely flat front surfaces which are delimited by side surfaces with relatively sharp edges. A special manufacturing process ensures that the major part of the front surfaces is oriented approximately parallel to the processing surface. In this way, the grinding or polishing process mainly takes place over the sharp-edged edges of the front surfaces, which results in a better surface quality, since there are no sharp-edged grinding bodies projecting in the direction of the machining surface. The parallel alignment of the front surfaces of the grinding bodies to the machining surface is favored by the flexible embedding on the carrier material.
However, due to the constantly occurring abrasion, even with such a grinding material, fine machining of glass or plastic surfaces with optical quality is only possible using the wet grinding method.
The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a method for grinding or polishing plastic or glass which avoids the disadvantages of the wet grinding method and at the same time ensures a high surface quality.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that a machine-driven grinding tool is moved over a processing surface, that the grinding is carried out dry without a liquid working medium, that the grinding tool executes a circular or oscillating movement at a high frequency with a high frequency, with grinding dust being suctioned off at the edge , and that the grinding tool has a closed abrasive with resiliently embedded grinding bodies.
The method according to the invention enables fine machining of plastic or glass surfaces with optical quality using the dry grinding method.
According to the invention, the grinding tool executes a circular or oscillating movement at a high frequency about a fixed pivot axis. This avoids a preferred direction during machining in the case of orbital sanders and enables uniform machining.
Numerous tests have also shown that conventional grinding devices, in which grinding dust is suctioned off through openings in the grinding surface, are not suitable in the dry grinding process. A closed abrasive, in which no suction openings are provided, avoids the problems that arise with conventional grinding devices at the edges of the suction openings. As a result, during the machining process, protrusions are avoided on the edges of suction openings, which can be caused by strong mechanical stress in the vicinity of suction openings. In the method according to the invention, punch residues are also avoided, which remain in conventional grinding devices with suction openings on the bottom at their edges and impair the grinding quality. At the same time, fraying of the grinding surface in the vicinity of suction openings is avoided. The extraction of grinding dust during processing takes place according to the invention at the edges of the grinding tool. The effective extraction also cools the grinding surface, which is particularly important when processing acrylic glass because of its temperature sensitivity. When using a grinder with a we the edge-side suction is avoided.
According to the invention it was also recognized that the use of an abrasive material in which the abrasive bodies are resiliently embedded is necessary. Due to the resilient embedding of the abrasive bodies, scoring by sharp-edged projecting abrasive bodies is avoided, since they can align themselves to a certain amount during machining, so that no sharp-edged tips protrude in the direction of the machining surface.
All in all, the method steps according to the invention enable very fine machining of plastic or glass surfaces with optical quality.
This leads to considerable time and cost savings in the post-processing of curved acrylic glass panes, as they are arranged in the cockpit area of jet fighters. Such acrylic glass panes are often used in the form of hood-shaped covers for the entire cockpit area. During flight operations, scratches can arise from dirt particles, insects and the like on the acrylic glass surface. In particular, when jet fighters take off in quick succession, dust, sand and dirt particles are whirled up by the preceding aircraft, which can cause damage from the impact of the following aircraft. Such scratches and unevenness have to be removed from time to time, whereby particularly high demands are placed on the freedom from distortion of the panes.
In a conventional manner, such disks were reworked by hand using wet grinding. Because of the required accuracy, errors of up to a maximum of about 0.2-0.3 mm depth have been eliminated. Since the entire surface had to be sanded uniformly because of the necessary freedom from distortion, the elimination of major errors in manual processing was uneconomical due to the high expenditure of time and personnel, so that the entire cockpit cover had to be replaced.
The method according to the invention now enables considerably faster and cost-saving dry-grinding post-processing with high quality, it being possible to compensate for errors of up to an order of magnitude of more than 1 mm.
If damage to the inside of the cockpit pane occurred, the entire cockpit cover had to be removed from the aircraft, since wet grinding could not be carried out because of the sensitive electronics in the cockpit area. With the method according to the invention, the extraordinarily time-consuming and expensive removal and installation of the cockpit cover is now avoided in many cases. Emergency repairs can now also be carried out in a short time, so that the operational readiness is improved, even if there is no time to replace the cockpit hood or spare parts are not available.
In an advantageous development of the method, the resiliently embedded grinding bodies have a largely flat front surface which is delimited by side surfaces with relatively sharp edges, the majority of the front surfaces being oriented approximately parallel to the machining surface.
In this way, the risk of scratching during machining is further reduced, since the grinding bodies do not have any sharp protruding tips in the direction of the machining surface.
In particular when processing acrylic glass panes of cockpit covers, further process parameters must be observed. Since the base material of such cockpit covers is prestressed in a certain way in order to maintain the necessary strength, there is a risk of stress cracking during dry grinding if a certain limit temperature is exceeded. In this case, optical errors due to the triggering of voltages can occur, in particular below the processing surface.
In an advantageous development of the method, the grinding speed, i.e. the average speed of the grinding wheel, selected in the range of about 2 to 10 m per second and the contact pressure limited so that a surface temperature of about 50 ° C is not exceeded. This offers sufficient security to avoid the triggering of voltages or against stress cracking.
Zur flächenhaften Bearbeitung von Acrylglas-Oberflächen sind Exzenterschleifer besonders geeignet, die eine rotierende Bewegung mit etwa 2000 bis 10000 1/Min, vorzugsweise mit etwa 4000 bis 8000 1/Min angetrieben sind und die notwendige randseitige Absaugung für Schleifstaub aufweisen Der Exzenterhub beträgt vorzugsweise etwa 1 bis 1,5 mm.Eccentric grinders are particularly suitable for the extensive processing of acrylic glass surfaces, which are driven in a rotating movement with approximately 2000 to 10000 1 / min, preferably with approximately 4000 to 8000 1 / min and which have the necessary suction at the edge for grinding dust up to 1.5 mm.
In this way, a particularly high quality can be achieved in the extensive processing of acrylic glass surfaces.
In contrast, grinding tools which have an abrasive carrier with at least one corner region, one around a device-fixed one, are preferably used for machining the corners and edge regions which are difficult to access Swiveling axis performs oscillating movement with a frequency of about 10,000 to 25,000 1 / min. Here, too, effective removal of the grinding dust must be ensured by means of an appropriate edge suction.
A triangular design of the abrasive carrier has proven to be particularly useful for handling.
In a preferred development of the method, the abrasive projects beyond the edge of the abrasive carrier. As a result, the abrasive protrudes slightly upwards at the edges of the abrasive carrier, so that detachment from the carrier is avoided and work can also be carried out with the edge region of the grinding tool without the machining surface being damaged by sharp edges.
It goes without saying that the features mentioned above and those yet to be explained below can be used not only in the combination specified in each case, but also in other combinations or on their own without departing from the scope of the present invention.

The grinding device, designated as a whole by the
The
According to FIG. 4, the abrasive 16 protrudes somewhat over the edge of the
The
As a result, an improved suction effect is achieved in particular in the corner area opposite the

The oscillation frequency is set approximately in a range between 10,000 to 25,000 1 / min, the swivel angle being up to a maximum of approximately 7 °. This results in an average grinding wheel speed of approximately 2 to 10 m per second. The contact pressure on the processing surface 44 is limited so that an average surface temperature of about 50 ° C is not exceeded during dry processing.
The other areas of the

The eccentric sander, designated overall by the number 10 ', has a grinding tool 12' which has an abrasive carrier 13 'with a circular base for receiving an abrasive 16' according to FIG. 2.
