- the invention relates to sealing devices for heat exchangers which comprise two fluid distribution manifolds parallel to each other; the invention is more particularly intended for exchangers provided with dissipator tubes of dimensions greater than one meter and which can go up to several meters in length.
- Heat exchangers in devices such as radiators, convectors etc. most often have ramps divided into segments. These segments are generally assembled using threaded fittings (or nipples). In known manner, flat and rigid seals are inserted during assembly, between the different segments. Materials such as paper are used in the case of cast iron radiators, klingerit, or compressed asbestos in the case of steel or aluminum radiators. These joints are compressed between the flanges of the segments, which must be strictly flat.
- French patent 2,149,999 describes a radiator for a central heating installation in which the elements, made up of hollow metal profiles, are assembled by threaded connections. Elastic seals are arranged in enlargements formed in the walls of the hollow profiles. Such a design limits the length of the segments or assumes that there is practically no relative movement between two adjacent sections.
- French patent 32,737 describes a radiator formed of juxtaposed sections each comprising a groove; a rubber seal is placed in this groove during assembly.
- the seals are able to ensure a good seal for axial movements relative to the ramp but not at all for relative movements between two segments. In practice, this means that the length of the segments is here again limited.
