Definitions

  • the invention relates to a mask-frame combination for a color picture tube, i. H. an arrangement with an approximately rectangular mask frame and a mask which is connected to the frame via welding points.
  • Masks for color picture tubes are drawn from special sheets that are provided with elongated holes. When pulling a mask shirt is formed and the mask surface is bulged.
  • the mask shirt is connected to the frame in color picture tubes from about 51 cm (20 ⁇ ) screen diagonal at twelve single welding points or eight double welding points by means of electrical spot welding.
  • connection between the mask and the frame on the one hand, high rigidity is desired so that the mask does not deform in the event of impacts and so that it is affected by sound waves, such as those emitted by a loudspeaker within, for. B. a television can be transmitted, little to vibrations is excited.
  • a loose coupling is desired, in particular because of the different expansion behavior of the mask and frame during thermal production processes of a color picture tube and when operating such a picture, especially with high beam currents.
  • US-A-3 808 493 discloses an Invar® mask and an iron frame. The mask is attached to the frame with welded-on elastic members, which compensates for differences in thermal expansion.
  • This combination differs from that known from DE 31 15 799 in two respects.
  • the two external welding points are closer to the center welding point than to the corner welding points, which is the case with the known combination mentioned, since the distance D / 4.5 to D / 2.4 applies.
  • there are cutouts in the mask shirt. Recesses in the form of decoupling slots are known per se, e.g. B. from DE 39 19 674. Such decoupling slots enable the mask shirt areas to move relatively freely around the welding spots. This property is also brought about by the cutouts in the combination according to the invention, but this leads to a further effect which is decisive for the function of the combination according to the invention.
  • the recesses are not merely decoupling slots adjacent to a welding point, but they extend between two welding points and additionally also adjacent to the external welding points. This leads to a weakening of the mask shirt over the entire recess length. This weakening, together with the aforementioned choice of the location of the welding spots, means that the mask can deform in the area of the mask shirt during the combination cooling processes during the production process in a highly elastic manner without permanent deformations occurring.
  • Invar® is preferably used as the mask material.
  • This material has an expansion coefficient of less than 10 ⁇ 6 / ° C up to about 60 ° C, while that of iron is slightly more than a factor of 10 higher. Above a temperature between about 200 and 240 ° C, which largely depends on the Invar alloy used, the expansion of Invar is essentially the same as that of iron, so that there is no longer any longitudinal expansion at uniform temperatures from this temperature.
  • the mask-frame combination 10 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 for a color picture tube has a frame 11 and a curved mask 12 with a bent mask shirt 13. Elongated holes 14 are present in the mask 12, through which electron beams can penetrate so that they can excite luminescent materials, which are applied in strips on a front trough (not shown), for emitting light.
  • the mask shirt 13 is connected to the frame 11 via twelve welding points 15.1 to 15.12, four of which (15.2, 15.4, 15.8 and 15.10) sit in the corners of the combination, four (15.3, 15.6, 15.9 and 15.12) in the middle of the sides sit, hereinafter referred to as center welding spots, and two (15.11 and 15.1 or 15.5 and 15.7) each sit on the long sides to the two sides of a respective center welding spot 15.12 and 15.6.
  • These welding spots are called external welding spots in the following.
  • holders (not shown) are provided on the frame 11, which are used to connect the combination 10 to the front tub of the tube.
  • the connection is made via pins in the front tub, which are attached approximately in the middle of each side of the tub.
  • the center welding points 15.3, 15.6, 15.9 and 15.12 essentially serve to press the mask shirt 13 close to the frame 11 in those areas in which the pins protrude from the bent edges of the front tub. Since the pens mentioned are usually not exactly in the middle of each page, but are offset from the center by a few millimeters to a few 10 millimeters, the center welding points mentioned are not exactly in the middle of each frame side, but are somewhat offset according to the position of the pins in relation to the respective center.
  • the diameter of the mask 12 is somewhat larger than that of the frame 11, so that there is a play S between the mask and the frame in the region of the bending of the mask.
  • This game is dimensioned such that the mask shirt 13 comes into contact with the frame 11 in the most unfavorable linear expansion conditions during manufacture, not just in the welding points.
  • a mask-frame combination 10 is heated in the course of the manufacture of a color picture tube in a stabilizing oven or a deep-frying oven, the frame 11 made of iron initially expands relatively strongly, starting from room temperature, while the mask 12 made of Invar® scarcely expands undergoes a change in length. From about 200 ° C, the coefficient of expansion of Invar® becomes noticeable, and from about 300 ° C the mask and frame expand approximately the same amount with every further temperature increase; the Invar then passed its Curie point. The temperature range between room temperature and about 250 ° C. is therefore problematic with regard to different changes in length. The conditions at the exit of a furnace become particularly critical when the mask, which has only low heat capacity, cools down very quickly, whereas the much more massive frame only slowly lowers its temperature.
  • the differences in length changes between room temperature and about 250 ° C or vice versa have the consequence that the danger there is permanent deformation of the mask.
  • the mask In order to counteract the danger, the mask has to be weakened in terms of its stiffness so that it can elastically compensate for differences in length during thermal production processes, but on the other hand it has to be so stable that it can withstand mechanical stresses.
  • the combination according to FIGS. 1 and 2 satisfies these different requirements due to the special position of the external welding spots 15.11 and 15.1 or 15.5 and 15.7 adjacent to the center welding spots 15.12 and 15.6 on the long sides, as well as due to recesses 17 in the mask shirt 13 between the welding spots and then to the respective outer welding points mentioned.
  • the distance A of a respective outer welding point from the respectively associated center welding point was D / 11 in one exemplary embodiment, where D is the length of the frame diagonal. Satisfactory manufacturing results were achieved at intervals between D / 14 and D / 9.
  • Each of the outer welding points is as close as possible to the lower edge of the mask shirt 13.
  • the distance P of the welding points from the lower edge was 2 mm in the exemplary embodiment.
  • the cutouts mentioned are present between the welds, as a result of which tabs 19 are formed in the area of the welds.
  • These flaps have a width B such that the connection between mask 12 and frame 11 is mechanically stable. In the exemplary embodiment, the width was 9 mm.
  • the length L of the recesses between two welding points is predetermined by the distance between the welding points and the width B of the tabs 19.
  • the recesses are formed with a similar length, which adjoin the outside welding points 15.11, 15.1, 15.5 and 15.7.
  • the length L is preferably between about 40 and 60 mm.
  • the depth of each recess 17 is selected so that the mask shirt is reduced from a height H of typically approximately 12 mm to a shortened height K of 6 mm. It it has been found that the shortened height K should not be longer than about 7 mm, if it is to be ensured that the mask is sufficiently flexible to be able to yield elastically to the maximum length change differences occurring in manufacturing processes.
  • a circumferential bead 18 is present in its top along its edge, which corresponds to a measure that has been known for a long time.
