Abstract

The invention relates to a book with file pockets, which is described in practice as a "clear book" and has a plurality of flat file pockets (14) of rectangular contour which have an insertion opening for documents, are joined together integrally in pairs at a common centre line (12') and, resting flatly against one another, are welded to one another and to a binding cover (10) at a binding welding seam (12) running along the common centre line (12'). In order to avoid tearing of the file pockets when handling the book in the region of the binding welding seam (12), which is preferably interrupted in the manner of a grid, both layers of film (14', 14'') of the individual file pockets (14) have cutouts (24) in the vicinity of at least one of the ends (26) of the binding welding seam, said cutouts being arranged laterally next to the binding welding seam (12), and being open at the edges towards the edge (20) of the adjacent pocket perpendicular to the binding welding seam (12).

Description

The invention relates to a foil pocket book with several flat, rectangular in outline, delimited by two foil layers connected to each other at at least two, preferably three edges on a folding or welding line and with at least one edge an insertion opening for documents or the like having foil pockets Made of thermoplastic material, which are connected in one piece in pairs on a common center line and are welded flat against one another at a weld line running along the common center lines and optionally welded to a cover.

A film pocket book (Clearbook) is known (US Pat. No. 4,844,508), in which a number of film pockets closed on three side edges are brought together in layers and welded together in the region of their center line to one another and to the cover, which is also made of thermoplastic material. The resulting weld seam is broken like a lattice. This is intended to ensure that the melting plastic material melts together in the area of the weld seam and at the same time forms a bond with the cover. The perforation pattern thus obtained forms a stiffening of the book spine and facilitates the hinge-like opening and closing of the film pockets. Because there is an increased risk of tearing in the area of the weld line due to the perforation when swiveling the film pockets, especially when handled improperly, a relatively wide and therefore resistant weld seam was provided. However, since the film pockets usually tear at the side edge of the weld seam and the wide weld seam forms a stiff tear-off edge due to the additional hardening, this measure has had a rather negative effect on the risk of tearing.

From BE-A-658 815 it is known for a document cover to protect its side weld seams from being torn out by means of oblique slits that are open at the edge. The slots are formed there only in the upper layer of film, and serve to facilitate the spreading of the upper layer of film required for inserting a document and to reduce the stress on the seam that occurs.

Furthermore, it is known from FR-A-1 116 735 for a document cover to form the inner individual seam of a lateral double weld seam in the region of the opening-side cover edge so that it is rounded outward to a straight outer seam in such a way that the double weld seam is tapered to a point. This is intended to make it easier to spread out the layers of the cover and to facilitate the insertion of a document due to the widened insertion opening, and at the same time to prevent the edge of the cover delimiting the insertion opening from being torn out. It is felt to be disadvantageous here that one over the Entire length of the center line extending weld seam, the shape stability of the document cover is increased so that the edge weld ends tear off when handled carelessly, especially in the event of lateral tensile stress.

The invention has for its object to develop a film pocket book in which the risk of tearing when pivoting the film pockets in the area of the weld seam is significantly reduced regardless of their width and design.

To achieve this object, it is proposed according to the invention that the film pockets in the vicinity of at least one of the weld seam ends arranged laterally next to the weld seam, to the further edge perpendicular to the weld seam have cutouts or cutouts, and that the cutouts or cutouts in the two film layers the foil pockets are each congruent to each other.

A further advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the cutouts of two integrally connected film pockets are arranged in mirror image with respect to one another with respect to their center line or are formed continuously while cutting the center line. In the latter case, it is advantageous if the binding weld end on the side of the cutouts is arranged inwards in relation to the relevant pocket edge in the longitudinal direction of the center line.

Since the film pockets are subjected to tension, particularly in the area of the insertion opening, the cutouts are advantageously arranged on the side of the insertion opening of the film pockets.

It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the cutouts are delimited by flanks which diverge towards the edge opening, the cutout flank adjacent to the weld line being either parallel or at an acute angle of less than 20 ° to the weld line.

In principle, it is possible, if the cutouts are present at the same time, to widen the width of the weld line toward its cutout-side end in order to obtain an additional corner reinforcement.

It is better, however, if the width of the weld line is tapered to a point at its cut-out end. In this case, the linearly acting tensile forces, which under certain conditions even make it possible to dispense with the open-edge recesses and the resulting strain relief. In both alternative solutions, the weld seam can either be perforated like a grid or consist of at least two individual seams spaced apart from one another until their ends are parallel to one another. In principle, it is possible to form the weld line as a plurality of cross seams which are spaced apart from one another in a grid pattern and separated from one another by transverse openings.

The foil pocket books (clearbooks) shown in the drawing essentially consist of a cover cover 10 and a plurality of mutually abutting, welded seams 12 running along a center and foil pockets 14 connected to the cover 10. The foil pockets 14 of the book are in turn connected to one another in pairs on a center line 12 'and are each delimited by two foil layers 14', 14 '' which are on the fold line 16, the welding line 18 and the weld seam 12 are connected to one another and are open at their upper edge 20 to form an insertion opening for documents. The weld seam can, as can be seen from FIGS. 1 to 5, be broken like a lattice. This ensures that the plastic material melts together in a targeted manner during the welding process and forms a reliable bond with the cover 20. In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 6, a weld seam consisting of two mutually parallel individual seams 12 'is shown, while in the case of FIG. 7 the weld seam is formed from a large number of transverse seams 12''which are spaced apart and separated by gaps 22 .

In the exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 1 to 3, the weld line is of equal width over its entire length, while in the case of FIG. 4 it is widened towards the end in a delta shape and in the case of FIGS. 5 to 7 it is tapered to a point.

In the exemplary embodiments shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 and 6, in the region of the upper edge 20 of the film pockets which has the insertion opening, recesses 24 which are open at the edge and which are congruent in the two film layers 14 ', 14''of all film pockets 14 are provided in the vicinity of the weld seam who at the Handling the foil pockets within the foil pocket book form a tear protection. In the case of FIGS. 2, 4 and 6, two recesses 24 arranged mirror-symmetrically with respect to the center line 12 'are provided on the film pockets of each pair of film pockets, while in the case of FIG. 3 a continuous cutout 24 is provided which causes the weld seam to its end in the direction of the center line 12 'is set back from the opening edge 20. The pointed ends 26 in the case of FIGS. 5 to 7 also have a strain-relieving function, which may make it unnecessary to make recesses 24 (FIGS. 5 and 7).

In summary, the following can be stated: The invention relates to a film pocket book, referred to in practice as a "clear book", which has a plurality of flat, contoured rectangular, insert pockets for documents, which have film pockets 14, which are connected in one piece in pairs on a common center line 12 ' and are flat against one another at a weld line 12 running along the common center lines 12 'and are welded to one another and to a cover 10. In order to avoid tearing of the film pockets in the area of the preferably welded open weld seam 12 when handling the book, both film layers 14 ', 14''of the individual film pockets 14 have in the vicinity of at least one of the weld seam ends 26 laterally next to the weld seam 12 arranged cutouts 24 which are open towards the edge of the pocket 20 adjacent to the vertical butt weld seam 12.
