Um darüberhinaus eine zufriedenstellende Sicherheit mit geringer Verletzungsgefahr zu gewährleisten, darf das verwendete Material nicht zu hart sein. Es ist daher bei den geringen Querabmessungen mehr oder weniger nachgiebig oder biegsam und bedarf besonderer konstruktiver Maßnahmen, um eine einfache Handhabung und eine ausreichende Lebensdauer sicherzustellen.
