Description

The invention which relates to a fire extinguisher relates more particularly to a protective and safety fairing intended to be fitted on the implementation and distribution head mounted at the top of the tank.

A safety fairing as defined in the preamble of claim 1 is known from document DE-A-2931501.

The extinguishers used up to now are, as we know, essentially constituted by a reservoir provided at its top with an opening on which is fixed a head for dispensing the extinguishing agent. The head which is a part coming from foundry or machining or molding is provided with a through well serving as support for a dip tube extending up to the base of the tank, well which makes it communicate with a flexible for connection to a blower fitted with a spray cane or a nozzle. The head also supports a closed cartridge of pressurized gas, supported inside the reservoir, which can be placed in communication with the interior of said reservoir after the action of a striker on a sealing cap of the orifice of the cartridge. . The striker as well as the connecting conduits are housed in the actual dispensing head held in place on the tank by a fixing nut or other system. Known fire extinguishers are also equipped with a grip handle as shown in DE-A-29 31 501 and with a pressing lever by which the user can, by pressing strongly, act on the striker of the spray head. this operation is only made possible if he has previously pulled on a locking pin of said presser lever.

It turned out that the implementation of these extinguishers was not always easy, especially when the user is in a feverish situation in the event of fire. Indeed the tearing of the safety pin which crosses the presser lever, requires; due to the shearing effect, a certain force and is not very easy because the device can be kept tilted and is not in the hand of the user. You must then exert a pressure that is also strong enough to maneuver the lever and pierce the seal which is more difficult if the tank is not resting on the ground. This represents at least two manipulations before being able to act on the spray gun or nozzle nozzle. Known fire extinguishers also have a number of other drawbacks. There is in particular the fragility of the dispensing head which is not protected against shocks, and which should therefore be covered by a cover. Furthermore, the tank is provided, on its outer wall, with brackets for attaching the device to a wall, as well as lugs for fixing the hose, all parts which are therefore attached to the body of the tank, and particularly subject to corrosion, and which significantly increase the risk of injury to the user and the cost price of the device.

In order to seek to make equipment simpler to manufacture and also more manageable and faster to use, the Applicant has developed a new security fairing adaptable to the dispensing head which avoids the aforementioned drawbacks.

A main object of the present invention therefore consists of a safety fairing in the form of a molded shell of composite material for a dispensing head closing the upper part of a fire extinguisher comprising a reservoir containing inter alia a dip tube and a gas cartridge under pressure for the evacuation of the extinguishing agent through said head towards a blower and comprising a handle for retaining the extinguisher and a control ring, said fairing covering the dispensing head to which it is fixed, by protruding from both sides, one of the protruding parts constituting the extinguisher holding handle, and the other protruding part receiving a control ring capable of being torn upwards by sliding out of the fairing, mechanical means link being located inside the fairing to transmit the movement of the ring to a striker opening the cartridge gas.

According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the projecting part of the fairing, on the side opposite to the handle, is open towards the outside in a rectangular light limited by a profile acting as a slide for the control ring.

Advantageously, the control ring is a molded plastic part, the upper part of which is in the form of a ring and the lower part of which has two small profiled strips laterally intended to cooperate with the profile of the fairing, said ring carrying a small linkage drive bracket located inside the fairing. The control ring has a special color which indicates the contents of the tank.

The mechanical connection means between the ring and the striker consist of a lever articulated on a crank pin of the dispensing head, and of a striker rod housed in said dispensing head, and said lever bearing on a side on the stem of the control ring and on the other side on the striker rod.

Other particular characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description of an embodiment taken by way of example and referring to the appended drawings which represent:
  • Figure 1, a general view in vertical section of a fire extinguisher
  • Figure 2, a vertical sectional view and Figure 3, a plan view and from below, of the fairing
  • Figure 4 a schematic view on a larger scale of the fairing slides
  • Figure 5, a perspective view of the control ring.
  • Figure 6, a sectional view on a larger scale of the fairing mounted on the dispensing head.

We see in Figure 1 a tank 20 of fire extinguisher on the orifice 2 which is mounted a distribution head 3 sealingly sealing said orifice, using a nut 4. The head is provided with a through-hole 5 serving as a support for a tube 6 developing over the entire height of the tank, at the bottom of which it opens out through an orifice 7. The through-hole communicates the dip tube with a flexible hose 8 for connection to a blower 9 which admits the extinguishing agent into a spray cane 21. It will be noted that the flexible hose 8 comes in direct extension with the dip tube through the through well.

Le manchon communique par un conduit non représenté avec l'intérieur du réservoir 20.The dispensing head 3 which is a part coming from foundry or machining or molding carries at its upper part two vertical wings 22 each pierced with an orifice 23. The orifices in question are used for fixing a safety fairing generally designated by the reference 1, which covers said head and extends substantially over the entire diameter of the reservoir as will be seen below. On the side opposite to the vertical wings, the head is provided with a vertical sleeve 36 onto which a cartridge 37 of pressurized gas is screwed. The sleeve communicates by a conduit, not shown, with the interior of the reservoir 20.

The fairing 1 is now described in more detail with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. It has the general shape of a molded shell of composite material, the upper face of which is substantially planar and the lower hollow part of which is provided with longitudinal ribs 10 and 11. This shell is given as aesthetic a shape as possible. One end of the fairing is pierced with an opening delimited by an edge 13 forming a grip handle 12. Additional means for lining the handle are provided to improve the comfort of the user. In the center, near this handle, the fairing is pierced with an orifice 14 allowing the passage of the through-hole 5. On the opposite side it is open towards the outside in a rectangular light 15 limited by a profile 16 better visible on the Figure 4 acting as a slide for a control ring 24 which will be described later. The upper part of the fairing above the light 15 carries an eyelet 19. The lower end of the shell on the side opposite to the handle 12 forms a stirrup 17, in front of the light 15, stirrup which carries a vertical tab 18 for attachment of the blow gun It will be noted that at least part of the lower periphery of the fairing is shaped in the form of a gutter 41 open downwards.

It is formed from a molded plastic part, the upper part of which has the shape of a ring 25 and the lower part 26 of which has two small profiled strips laterally. 27 intended to cooperate with the profile 16 of the fairing 1. At its base, the lower part of the ring carries a bracket 28 oriented on the same side as the profiled strips. Finally a small central hole 29 was made in the center of the ring. The ring is equipped for example with small additional deformable plastic legs which would prohibit its re-engagement in the slides after its tearing, or with a non-return system, or it is provided with a zone of weakness or a brittle part which would prevent it from being replaced.

Referring now to Figures 1, 2 and 6, we see the mounting of the fairing 1 on the dispensing head 3. For this the fairing has two lateral orifices 30, and a retaining rod 31 passes through these orifices and the orifices 23 of the head to secure these two parts. Note that the fairing overflows on each side of the distribution head. The grip handle 12 is located on one of the projecting parts while the control ring is located on the other projecting part of the fairing.

L'extrémité opposée du levier 32 affleure la lumière 15 du carénage et vient en appui contre la potence 28 de l'anneau 24.Inside the fairing, in the corridor delimited by the longitudinal ribs 10, extends a lever 32 articulated on a crank pin 33 secured to the head 3. The end of said lever, in the immediate vicinity of the crank pin bears against the end of the rod 34 of a striker 35 housed inside the sleeve 36; the striker is wearing a O-ring 38 ensuring sealing in the sleeve, between the interior of the reservoir and the rod 34. The tip 39 of the striker opens near the sealing cap of the gas cartridge 37. the striker is returned by a spring 42 resting on a shoulder of the rod 34 and on a washer 43 for capping the sleeve, supporting the bottle and holding the spring. The opposite end of the lever 32 is flush with the lumen 15 of the fairing and bears against the bracket 28 of the ring 24.

Finally, a lockable cover 40 attached under the fairing snaps onto the stirrup 17 and closes the corridor containing the lever 32. Its main purpose is to close off the projecting part of the fairing and thus prohibit access to the lever 32, to avoid its untimely operation.

Les figures 1 et 6 illustrent la position des différents organes du carénage et de la tête de distribution quand l'appareil est au reposFigures 1 and 6 illustrate the position of the different components of the fairing and of the distribution head when the appliance is at rest

In this case and using the gutter 41, the fairing allows the extinguisher to be hooked to any wall hook, which avoids having to provide the outer wall of the reservoir with hooking stirrups. When the device is thus hooked, the blowgun 9 is suspended from the end of the fairing stirrup by means of the vertical tab 18. The rod thus finds its place, vertically along the tank and it is therefore not necessary no longer to provide any means of attachment to the tank.

L'agent extincteur peut alors être pulvérisé par action de l'utilisateur sur la soufflette 9.The fairing 1 being securely attached to the spray head 3, that is to say to the reservoir, the user can easily grasp the device using the handle 12. Without placing the device on the ground, and in a single instinctive and natural gesture he will be able to pull up the control ring 24 which cuts a light sealing wire 44 passing through the eyelet 19 and the orifice 29. The particular position of the control ring 24 on the opposite side with the handle makes this tear-off operation very easy and natural. During this movement are assured in one gesture two operations. On the one hand, an unlocking of the control ring. On the other hand the pressurization of the reservoir by perforation of the sealing cap of the cartridge 37. In fact, during the upward movement of the ring 24, the profiles 27 of which slide in the slides 16, the bracket 28 causes the lever 32 to tilt which will depress the rod 34 of the striker 35 against the force of the spring 42 and causes the tip 33 to act. The reduction introduced by the lever 32 means that the user, in the same gesture does not does not have to exert a significant effort to tear off the ring and put the tank under pressure, unlike the usual known systems. The resistance opposed by the spring is negligible, the latter only having the role of keeping the striker in the high position, when the extinguisher is at rest. Note that the torn ring is completely out of the slides and it can not be replaced due in particular to the non-return system mentioned above. The extinguishing agent can then be sprayed by action of the user on the blow gun 9.

The fairing 1 therefore greatly facilitates the attachment and handling of the fire extinguisher. In addition, it completely protects the functional unit and the dispensing head from impact. It is advantageously made of molded composite material, without projecting parts or sharp corners, and since it incorporates the carrying handle and the support of the hose, it avoids the manufacture and assembly of these usual parts. For its part, the control ring 24 also made of plastic, for example polyamide which fears neither oxidation, seizure or deformation, is chosen in a color which contrasts with that of the fairing to be easily identifiable . It is advantageous to give the ring used a color which provides information on the content of the tank, and materializes the nature of the extinguishing agent.
