Abstract

The fire extinguisher has a compressed gas cartridge (19) fitted into its head (2). This has a striker pin (16) mounted immediately above. The upper part of the striker pin projects through the head, a spring (13) maintaining this position. The top (15) of the pin is locked by a safety strip (48), its end being thicker than the projecting pin (14) and preventing inadvertent use. This strip is pulled off (49) and a pivoted carrying handle (6, 7) pulled down to pierce the cartridge. After use, an indicator is forced upwards by the internal pressure to show the extinguisher is empty.
