Description

The invention relates to a heat exchanger with connected water boxes for motor vehicles, in particular for heavy goods vehicles.

Heat exchangers of this type are already known which comprise a bundle of tubes mounted between two water boxes, each of which is delimited by a wall of molded plastic material having two opposite lateral faces on which two uprights of shaped cross section are fixed. of U connecting the two water boxes and framing the beam, each of the uprights comprising a core on which two lateral cheeks depend.

The two uprights which connect the water boxes then give such a heat exchanger high mechanical strength, which makes it possible to produce it in large dimensions and to mount it on a motor vehicle, in particular a heavy vehicle, where it must be subjected. in operation at high mechanical stresses due in particular to the vibrations of the motor and to the differences in expansion undergone by the tubes of the bundle.

It is known, according to European Patent No 115,795, to produce such a heat exchanger in which the fixing of each of the uprights on each of the water boxes is effected by means of at least one pin yes cross through apart the water box and which passes through two openings in the two side cheeks opposite the upright.

The installation of such pins is complex and costly to carry out.

It is also known, according to European Patent No. 112,251, to produce a heat exchanger of a similar type, in which the water boxes are formed from a molded metallic material, and in which the fixing of each of the cheeks of an upright on a lateral face of a water box is effected by means of at least one bolt which passes through an opening of the cheek and which is screwed into a tapped hole provided for this purpose in the thickness of the wall of the water box.

Again, the fixing operation is long and expensive to perform because it requires two successive machining of each water box to first form several holes and then appropriate tapping.

The object of the invention is in particular to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks.

To this end, it proposes a heat exchanger of the type defined in the introduction, comprising a bundle of tubes mounted between two water boxes, each of which is delimited by a wall of molded plastic material having two opposite lateral faces on which two are fixed. U-shaped uprights connecting the two water boxes and framing the beam, each of the uprights comprising a core on which two lateral cheeks depend, characterized in that each of the opposite lateral faces of the water boxes carry smooth-wall bores, the l the axis extends substantially perpendicular to the plane of said opposite lateral faces, in that said bores are formed in bosses formed in the wall of water boxes and in that said bores are capable of receiving a self-tapping screw which passes through a opening in a cheek of the uprights so as to ensure the fixing of said cheek on the wall side of the water box.

Under these conditions, the fixing of the two uprights on the two water boxes is carried out in a particularly simple manner since the bores may have come from molding with the water boxes and that the installation of the self-tapping screws is carried out by simple screwing by means of an appropriate tool.

The invention applies very particularly to a heat exchanger of this type in which each upright comprises, in a manner known per se, an end provided with circular openings for rigid attachment to one of the two water boxes and a end provided with oblong openings for sliding attachment to the other water box, so as to compensate for variations in expansion.

According to another characteristic of the invention, it is provided that self-tapping screws are then used, each of which is provided with a cylindrical ring having an outside diameter greater than the inside diameter of each of the circular openings, but less than the smallest dimension of each of the oblong openings.

Thus, in the case where a self-tapping screw is introduced into a circular opening, the ring bears against the lateral cheek of the upright. On the other hand, when such a self-tapping screw is introduced into an oblong opening of an upright, the ring of the screw is introduced into the oblong opening and comes to bear directly against the corresponding lateral face.

Thus, tapping screws of the same type can be used both for rigid attachment of an upright on a water box and for sliding attachment of the upright on the other water box.

The ring can be an integral part of the self-tapping screw or else be threaded around the latter.

According to another characteristic of the invention, each of the lateral cheeks of an upright comprises an end connected by a recess, which allows this end to bear flat against the corresponding face of the water box.

A better connection is thus obtained between the upright and the water box.

The invention also contemplates that each of the side cheeks has one end in its extension so that this end is supported on a face offset from the face of the water box.

According to another characteristic of the invention, each of the blind bores is formed in a boss formed in the wall of the water box.

  • Figure 8 shows a self-tapping screw with attached ring.

The heat exchanger shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a bundle 10 which is formed from a multiplicity of tubes 12 passing through fins 14 and which is mounted between two water boxes 16 and 18.

The water box 16, placed in the upper part of the heat exchanger, comprises a collecting plate 20 also called a "hole plate", into which the ends of the tubes 12 of the bundle open. On the periphery of the collecting plate 20 is fixed a wall 22 of molded plastic which delimits the water box 16. This wall comprises an inlet pipe 24 and a degassing pipe 26.

The water box 18, placed in the lower part, comprises a collecting plate 28 into which the other ends of the tubes 12 open as well as a molded plastic wall, into which an outlet pipe 32 and a drain pipe 34 are formed. .

Les deux montants 36 encadrent ainsi le faisceau 10.The two water boxes 16 and 18 are interconnected by two uprights 36, of U-shaped cross section, comprising a core 38 on which two lateral cheeks 40 depend. Each of the two cheeks 40 comprises one end 42, of generally triangular shape , intended to be fixed to the water box 16 and an opposite end 44, of generally triangular shape, intended to be fixed to the water box 18. Each of the ends 42 or 44 is fixed to the corresponding water box by the at least one self-tapping screw 46. Thus, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, each of the uprights is fixed to one of the two water boxes by means of four self-tapping screws 46, which represents a total of 16 self-tapping screws for the heat exchanger. The two uprights 36 thus frame the bundle 10.

The uprights 36 are also connected together, substantially at mid-height, by at least one tie rod 48, here two tie rods, extending transversely to the direction of the tubes 12 of the bundle.

As shown in FIG. 3, each of the cheeks 40 of an upright 36 comprises a step 50 connecting it to its end 42 and another step 52 connecting it to its end 44. The two ends 42 and 44 can thus be applied to flat against the water boxes 16 and 18 respectively, bypassing the protuberances formed by the collecting plates 20 and 28.

As shown in Figure 3, the wall 22 of the water box 16 comprises two opposite faces 54, substantially parallel to each other, on which are fixed respectively the two ends 42 of an upright 36 and, correspondingly, the wall 30 of the water box 18 comprises two opposite faces 56 parallel to each other, on which are fixed respectively the two ends 44 of the same amount.

Each of the ends 42 (FIGS. 3, 5 and 6) is provided with two openings 58 of generally oblong shape, while each of the ends 44 is provided with two openings 60 of circular shape, to allow rigid fixing of each upright 36 on the water box 18 and a sliding attachment of each upright 36 on the water box 16.

As shown in FIG. 5, each of the oblong openings 58 has a width l greater than the diameter d of circular openings 60 and a length L greater than the width l and extending in the direction of the length of the upright, to allow a clearance mutual of the two water boxes under the effect of the differences in expansion presented by the tubes 12 of the bundle as a function of the temperature of the fluid passing through them.

In each of the opposite faces 54 of the water box 16 and in each of the opposite faces 56 of the water box 18 are formed bores 62 with smooth walls, which in the example are blind, and whose axis of each d 'them extends perpendicular to the plane of the corresponding flat face 54 or 56. The bores 62 have come from molding with the corresponding water box and are formed in bosses 64 formed in the wall 22 of the water box 16 or in the wall 30 of the water box 18.

The self-tapping screw 46 shown in FIG. 7 successively comprises a threaded rod 66, a ring 68 in the form of a flange having an outside diameter D and a height h, a washer 70 with a diameter greater than D and finally a hexagonal head 72.

Sa hauteur h est supérieure à l'épaisseur e de l'extrémité 42 ou 44 d'une joue 40.The diameter D of the ring 68 is greater than the diameter d of an opening 60 and less than the width l of an opening 58. Its height h is greater than the thickness e of the end 42 or 44 of a cheek 40.

Thus, as can be seen in FIG. 3, the ring 68 of a screw 46 presses against the end 44 around an opening 60 and thus ensures the tightening of this end 44 on a face 56 of the water box 18.

Il en résulte que l'extrémité 42 est fixée à coulissement sur la boîte à eau 16.By cons, when a tapping screw 46 is engaged in an oblong opening 58 of one end 42, the ring 68 comes to bear directly against the corresponding face 54 of the water box 16. As a result, the end 42 is fixed sliding on the water box 16.

In the variant shown in Figure 8, the ring 68, instead of being an integral part of the self-tapping screw 46, is simply threaded on the latter.

Since the bores 62 can be obtained by molding with the two water boxes and that the self-tapping screws 46 are introduced by simple screwing in force in the bores 62, the mounting and fixing of the uprights 36 are much simpler to realize that in the case of heat exchangers of the prior art.

In addition, it can be envisaged, and this without departing from the scope of the invention, that each of the cheeks 40 does not include an offset 50. As a result, the end 42 is located in the extension of the cheek 40, while that the faces of the bores 62 facing the end are located beyond the face of the wall 54 or 56 of the water box.

Grâce à cette disposition, les joues latrales 40 ne s'appuient plus sur les faces des boîtes à eau mais sur l'extrémité en saillie des bossages 62.Thanks to this arrangement, the lateral cheeks 40 are no longer supported on the faces of the water boxes but on the projecting end of the bosses 62.
