Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device at floor drains including an inlet member into which a floor covering is insertable, whereby the floor covering inserted into the inlet member is adapted to engage a downwardly directed wall of said inlet member, whereby a clamping ring is provided within the floor covering inserted into the inlet member, said clamping ring being adapted to press the floor covering inserted into the inlet member in a direction outwards against the downwardly directed wall and said clamping ring being split and provided with a spring which is adapted to press said clamping ring in a direction outwards against the floor covering, whereby one side of the clamping ring facing outwards towards the floor covering includes two surfaces extending at an angle relative to each other and together defining a point facing outwards towards said floor covering, and whereby the downwardly directed wall comprises a relative to the clamping ring downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion which at least partially is located on a higher level than the point of the clamping ring when said clamping ring is situated in an operative
- Clamping rings according to the publication WO 90/02232 (corresponding to SE patent specification No. 8802915-2) comprises a spring which with force dilates or expands the clamping ring against the portion of the floor covering inserted into the drain.
- the spring is dimensioned such that the clamping ring exerts a relatively great clamping force, whereby the floor covering is effectively pressed against the drain for obtaining efficient sealing.
- the spring is dimensioned for giving the clamping ring a great clamping force, there is however under certain circumstances a risk that the clamping ring glides upwards on the floor covering and/or pushes the floor covering upwards.
- the great clamping force can also lead to that the clamping ring is too easily removed. Said problems may increase if the rim of the drain is inclined as is the case in many modern floor drains.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a device which ensures that clamping rings with a spring also in unpropitious cases are safely sealed in their operative positions.
- the device according to the invention has obtained the characterizing features of claim 1.
- the clamping ring is through a pointed portion capable of working itself into the floor covering without gliding upwards thereon or push it upwards.
- This floor covering 3 shall be held closely against a downwardly directed wall 4 of the inlet member 2 by means of a clamping ring 5 mounted in said inlet member 2.
- This clamping ring 5 is split (see fig. 4) and comprises a spring 6 which permits sufficient compression thereof in radial direction for inserting it into the inlet member 2. Thereafter, when the clamping ring 5 is released, the spring 6 will dilate or expand said clamping ring radially outwards until it engages the floor covering 3.
- clamping ring 5 will press the floor covering 3 in outwards direction against the downwardly directed wall 4 of the inlet member 2, such that the floor covering 3 closely engages said wall 4.
- Clamping rings 5 of this type are described in detail in our SE patent specification No. 8802915-2.
- the side 7 of the clamping ring 5 facing outwards towards the floor covering 3 includes two surfaces 8 and 9 which extend at an angle relative to each other for defining a point 10 facing outwards towards the floor covering 3.
- the downwardly directed wall 4 of the inlet member 2 includes a wall portion 11 which is directed downwards/ /outwards relative to the clamping ring 5 and this wall portion 11 is at least partially situated on a somewhat higher level H1 than the level H2 of the point 10 of the clamping ring 5 in its operative position in the inlet member 2, i.e. when it engages the seat 2a in said inlet member 2.
- the angle ⁇ between the horizontal plane (here illustrated with the line H2 in fig. 1) and the upper surface 9 of the clamping ring 5 is equal to or somewhat smaller than the angle ⁇ between said wall portion 11 and the horizontal plane (here illustrated as the line H1 in fig. 1). It is hereby provided that the floor drain 1 is located in its intended position relative to the horizontal plane; if the floor drain 1 is located somewhat inclined relative to this intended position, the angles ⁇ and ⁇ will change correspondingly relative to the horizontal plane, but said relationship between these angles will remain unaltered.
- the downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion 11 is located on a somewhat higher level than the point 10 of the clamping ring 5 (in fig. 1 this difference in level corresponds with the distance between the levels H1 and H2).
- the angle ⁇ between the upper surface of the clamping ring 5 and the horizontal plane H2 preferably lies within a range of 10-55°.
- the angle ⁇ is about 45°.
- a point 10 of a suitable shape is obtained if the angle ⁇ between the upper and lower surfaces 9 and 8 of the clamping ring 5 lies within a range of 100-140°.
- this angle ⁇ is about 120°.
- the downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion 11 defines with the horizontal plane H1 preferably an angle ⁇ within a range of 55-65°.
- the angle ⁇ is about 60°.
- the inlet member 2 mentioned above may preferably also be used for mounting an extension ring 12 if the floor level is raised and one wish to maintain the existing floor drain 1 but yet provide an inlet member 2 located in level with the raised floor level.
- This extension ring 12 can be snapped onto the inlet member 2 of the floor drain while said extension ring 12 comprises a snap-in portion 13 which is intended to be moved at least partially beyond the downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion 11 until said snap-in portion 13 is snapped onto the inlet member 2 (see fig. 2).
- the snap-in portion 13 preferably includes a point 14 which, when pressing down the extension ring 12 into the inlet member 2, is engageable with the downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion 11 or preferably with the downwardly directed wall 4 just beneath said wall portion 11.
- the point 14 is preferably provided at such a distance above the lower edge 15 of the extension ring 12 that the extension ring 12 in its operative function is clamped between the seat 2a and the wall portion 11 or the downwardly directed wall 4, just beneath said wall portion 11 depending on where the point 14 is engaged. This means that the extension ring 12, in its operative position, can not move in axial direction relative to the floor drain 1.
- the snap-in portion 13 preferably comprises an outer side 16 with the same or similar shape as the outer side 7 of the clamping ring 5.
- the snap-in portion 13 may include an upper surface 17 with the same angle ⁇ to the horizontal plane as the surface 9 of the clamping ring 5 (see fig. 3).
- the outer side 16 may have a lower surface 18 and the angle between these surfaces 17, 18 can correspond with the angle ⁇ between corresponding surfaces 8, 9 on the clamping ring 5.
- a groove 19 for a sealing ring 20 which is adapted to provide a sealing between the inlet member 2 and the outer side of the extension ring 12.
- said inlet member 2 has the same shape as the inlet member 2 of the floor drain 1, i.e. comprises a downwardly/inwardly directed wall portion 11 and so on, and those parts of the inlet member 2 of the extension ring 12 which correspond with the same parts of the inlet member 2 of the floor drain 1 have for the purpose of simplification received the same reference numerals in fig. 2.
- the inlet member 2 preferably comprises a downwardly bent surface 21, through which the floor covering 3 extends downwards towards the downwardly directed wall 4.
- This downwardly bent surface 21 can down below define a constriction 22 of the inlet member 2 and the downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion 11 can be located just beneath this constriction 22 (see fig. 1).
- the downwardly/outwardly directed wall portion 11 preferably transforms into a vertically or substantially vertically directed section 23 of the downwardly directed wall 4 and this section 23 preferably has a rough portion 24 situated on the same level H2 as the point 10 of the clamping ring 5.
- the invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiment but may vary within the scope of the following claims.
- the inlet member need not necessarily be circular and eventually neither the clamping ring.
- the clamping ring can also be of another type than shown.
