Claims (9)

  1. Process for varying the curvature of sewn toes of stockings with a machine for sewing the toes, consisting of means for supporting the stocking and for positioning the toe in a flat position on a circular plane turning corresponding to the sewing station, characterized in that it contains the following operations in succession:
    (a) grasping the free end of the stocking at the centre or at the sides, outside or beyond the said rotating sewing plane, in the direction of the sewing machine,
    (b) tightening the central zone of the flat toe elastically in the longitudinal direction of the stocking and grasping it relative to the external zones or conversely tightening the two external zones relative to the central zone, according to whether one wants to obtain a curvilinear sewn radius greater or less than the radius of the rotating sewing plane,
    (c) fixing the flat toe of the stocking on the rotating sewing plane and tightening it elastically,
    (d) freeing the free end of the stocking toe fixed in this way,
    (e) carrying out the progressive sewing by turning the sewing plane and simultaneously cutting the excess material relative to the line of cutting,
    (f) releasing the stocking toe sewn in this way.
  2. Process according to claim 1, characterized in that the said elastic tension can be controlled as a function of the elastic extension imposed at the stocking toe to be sewn.
  3. Arrangement for varying the curvature of the stocking toe sewn with a sewing machine according to the process of the preceding claims, characterized in that, corresponding to a horizontal circular plane (4) rotating with a coaxial plate situated below, with vertical and rotating movement, for tightening the toe during sewing, it contains:
    - means (14, 16) of grasping at several separate points the free end of the flat stocking toe to be sewn and which goes outside the rotating sewing plane,
    - pneumatic means for activating and de-activating respectively the said means (14, 16) for grasping the stockings,
    - means for imposing on the said means (14, 16) for grasping the stockings a rectilinear movement in the longitudinal direction of the stocking in the sense of lengthening it relative to the sewing plane to obtain a tension, ie: elastic expansion of the material of the stocking toe which has been grasped by the means of grasping (14, 16) and respectively in the sense of coming closer relative to the rotating sewing plane to obtain a rectilinear return movement to the initial position of the means of grasping the stocking, after releasing the grasp of the stocking,
    - means for synchronising the actions of the means of grasping the stocking with those of the said plate of the sewing machine of the toes.
  4. Device according to claim 3, characterized in that the said means (14, 16) for grasping the stocking consist of pliers (14) with flat points and a pair of pliers (16) with flat points with scissors opening and pneumatic control, acting frontally in the central zone and respectively in the two external zone of the free end of the flat toe of the stocking: the points of the said pliers (14, 16) being articulated in front of a corresponding slide (12, 13) with horizontal alternating movement with interposition of two corresponding connecting rods (15, 17).
  5. Device according to claim 3, characterized in that the said means of moving the pliers (14, 16) grasping the stocking consist of two double-acting pneumatic cylinders (21, 22) with the respective rods (23, 24) connected to the rear part of a corresponding slide (12, 13) and which are actuated separately by a central unit of the machine sewing the toes to actuate the central pliers (14) or the pair of external pliers (16) respectively.
  6. Device according to claim 5, characterized in that the said cylinders (21, 22) for moving the pliers (14, 16) are selected by means of a selector connected in parallel with the control of the pneumatic cylinder which controls the blocking plate of the stocking toe on the rotating sewing plane (4).
  7. Device according to claim 4, characterized in that the said slides (12, 13) supporting the pliers (14, 16) are produced from a sheet bent into a U shape, one internal slide (12) and one external one (13), with arms of the same length and with the bases offset to enable them to be fixed to the rod of the corresponding control cylinder (21, 22).
  8. Device according to claim 3, characterized in that the said means of moving the pliers (14, 16) consist of two pairs of coplanar rods (30, 31), at the front of the said connecting rods (15, 17) are articulated, and whose rear end is fixed on the corresponding control cylinder (21, 22) with a corresponding plate (34, 35) interposed.
  9. Device according to claims 5 and 8, characterized in that it includes two pairs of screws (38, 39) mounted on each side relative to the control cylinders (21, 22) and which form stops for the said plates (34, 35) to enable one to control the course, ie: toe backward movement of the pliers (14, 16).
