Abstract

A conveying device (1), having bottom and top continuous belts (2, 10), transports printed products (9), such as brochures, newspapers and the like, in an overlapping formation towards a cutting apparatus. The cutting apparatus has a rotating cutter disc (17) which operates against a counter-cutter (14) and is fitted with a plurality of cutters (21). The counter-cutter (14) is arranged with a counter-cutting edge in a transport plane (7) on the one side of the printed products (9) transported in overlapping formation. The leading edges (23) of the printed products (9) transported in overlapping formation are situated on the side of the counter-cutter (14), each preceding printed product (9) resting on the subsequent printed product (9). As a result, a smooth cut is achieved without the risk of tearing the paper sheet. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a method for the lateral trimming of printed products consisting of paper sheets according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

In order to ensure that a clean head, foot and / or front cut is achieved in the running scale flow of the printed products even with relatively thick printed products with a high output, it is known from CH-A-650 967 that the overlapping printed products in this way by the cutting device to ensure that its leading edge faces the cutter disc. The cutting edges of the knives form an angle of 0 to 15 ° with the conveying plane when they hit the paper sheets of the printed products and an angle of 15 to 45 ° with the strongest overlap with the counter knife.

In practice, however, it has now been shown that despite this per se advantageous cutting measure for printed products with a larger number of pages, the printed products lying on top tear due to the cutting force acting from above, specifically at a point approximately in the middle in the longitudinal direction of the sides to be cut of the printed products. By changing the cutting angle with the strongest overlap of the knives with the counter knife as well as by changing the speed and the shape of the counter knife, no significant improvement in this disadvantageous phenomenon, which also occurs in cutting devices of other types, could be achieved.

It is an object of the present invention to remedy the disadvantage mentioned and to propose a method which enables a smooth lateral trimming of relatively thick printed products such as brochures, magazines, etc. without the risk of lateral tearing.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features of claim 1.

Surprisingly, it has been found that this simple measure, which is contrary to the traditional rules for the formation of the scale flow of the transported printed products, in any case brings about a perfect lateral trimming of the printed products.

In the usual way, the knife disc can be arranged above the counter knife. Then, according to the invention, each preceding printed product has to rest on the subsequent printed product. In other words, the incoming shingled stream of printed products must be turned by 180 ° in its longitudinal axis before lateral trimming, since the leading edges of the shingled stream arriving from a folder are always on the top, i.e. each subsequent printed product rests on the previous printed product.

If the incoming stream of flakes is not to be turned through 180 °, the cutting device can alternatively be arranged below the counter knife, in which case it is known per se Way each subsequent printed product rests on the previous printed product.

Exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention are explained below with reference to the drawings. Show it:
  • Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through a first embodiment according to section I - I in Fig. 2.
  • FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1;

  • 4 shows a section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3.

Die Bänder 2 und 10 sind mit gleicher Geschwindigkeit angetrieben, wobei die Pressbänder 10 den Schuppenstrom 9 gegen die Transportebene 8 pressen, so dass die einzelnen Druckbogen relativ zueinander unverschiebbar sind.1 and 2, in accordance with the device known from CH-A-650 967, a conveying device 1 has three parallel, endless belts 2, which are guided over deflection rollers 3 and 4 seated on shafts 5 and 6 and by means of the shaft 6 are driven. The upper runs of the belts 2 together with a sliding plate 7 form a transport plane 8, on which a scale flow 9 of printed products, that is to say folded paper sheets, is transported in the direction of the arrow shown. Above the scale stream 9, three parallel, endless press belts 10 are arranged, which are guided around deflection rollers 13 and 13 'seated on shafts 11 and 12, the shaft 12 being driven. The belts 2 and 10 are driven at the same speed, the Press belts 10 press the shingled stream 9 against the transport plane 8, so that the individual printed sheets are immovable relative to one another.

Laterally, two fixed counter knives 14 and 15 adjoin the sliding plate 7, which lie with their upper cutting edges 16 in the transport plane 8 (FIG. 2). A knife disk 17 and 18 is arranged above each of the two counter-measurements 14, 15, which are rotatably mounted on assigned drive shafts 19. Each of the knife disks 17, 18 consists of a carrier plate 20 to which a plurality of knives 21 are attached. The knives 21 are provided with a cutting edge 22 which cooperate with the cutting edges 16 of the counter knives 14, 15. The cutting edges 22 preferably enclose the angles mentioned at the beginning with respect to the scale flow 9 or the transport plane 8.

When the device is in operation, the shingled stream 9 is continuously fed onto the conveyor device 1, pressed against the plane 8 by means of the belts 10 and at the same time transported further in the direction of the arrow. However, it can be seen from FIG. 1 that the printed sheets are not stacked in the shingled stream 9 in the usual manner as they come from the printing press, namely not with leading edges of the printed sheets on the upper side of the shingled stream 9, that is to say on the knife side 21. Rather, the shingled stream is fed to the conveying device 1 in such a way that the leading edges of the printed sheets lie on the side of the counter knives 14, 15 and therefore each preceding printed sheet in the shingled stream 9 lies on the following one Print sheet rests from above. As in the known device, the knife disks 17 and 18 are also driven, their peripheral speed being substantially greater than that of the belts 2 and 10. Likewise, the parts of the printed sheets projecting beyond the cutting edges 16 of the counter knives 14 and 15 on the head and foot sides are separated from the knives 17 and 18. Lateral tearing and damage to the printed sheets no longer occurs during the cutting process due to the 180 ° orientation of the overlapping printed sheets in the scale stream 9.

In order to achieve the described position according to the invention of the printed sheets of the shingled stream with respect to the counter knives 14, 15, the shingled stream coming from the printing machine must generally be turned through 180 ° in its longitudinal axis before it is introduced into the conveying device 1. Suitable turning devices are known, for example from DE-A-32 21 153, and can easily be connected upstream of the conveyor device 1.

According to the further exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the aforementioned orientation of the scale flow with respect to the counter knife can be achieved without this being used.

The exemplary embodiment comprises a conveyor 24 which is essentially of the same design as the conveyor 1 of FIGS. 1 and 2. Thus, the conveyor 24 in turn has a pair of three parallel, endless belts 2 and 10, between which a shingled stream of printed products 25 (folded paper sheet) is transported in the direction of the arrow. The difference is that no sliding plate 7 (FIGS. 1, 2) is arranged here. Rather, the lower sections of the three parallel bands 10 are prevented from evading by rollers 26. In order to press the paper sheets 25 of the shingled stream against these lower sections of the belts 10, 2 further rollers 27 are arranged on the inside of the upper sections of the belts, which are individually subjected to the force of springs 28. The lower sections of the upper belts 10 accordingly perform the function of a transport surface 29 corresponding to the sliding plate 7 in FIGS. 1 and 2.

Laterally, the two counter-knives 14 and 15 adjoin the transport surface 29, which can be fixed or rotating and which lie with their lower cutting edges 16 in the plane of the transport surface 29. Under each of the two counter knives 14, 15 are the same knife disks 17, 18 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, which consist of the carrier plates 20 and the plurality of knives 21 with cutting edges 22. The cutting edges 22 of the knives 21 interact with the cutting edges 16 of the counter knives 14, 15. It can be seen that in the exemplary embodiment of FIGS. 3, 4 the knife disks 17, 18 are arranged on the lower side of the overlapping transported printed products 25 and the counter knives 14, 15 on the upper side thereof.

The scale flow of the printed products 25 is designed according to the invention in such a way that the leading edges 30 of the overlapping transported printed products 25 are on the side of the counter knives 14, 15. Each subsequent printed product 25 thus lies on top of the previous printed product 25. Because this design of the imbricated flow of the printed products 25 corresponds to the position of the overlapping printed products when leaving the printing press, there is no need to turn the imbricated flow beforehand.

There is the possibility, in a manner not shown, of also realizing the measure according to the invention by reversing the direction of rotation of the rotating knife disks 17, 18 in a device of the type mentioned at the outset, with the cutting edges 22 of the knives 21 on the other long side then also, of course the knife 21 must be formed. In this case, however, since the direction of the circumferential movement of the cutting edges 22 at the location where they act on the printed products is opposite to the transport direction of the printed products, other disadvantageous difficulties can arise during the cutting process, even if the knives 21 have a substantially higher peripheral speed than the transport speed of the tapes 2, 10 rotate.
