Definitions
- the invention relates to a metal platelet composite consisting of metal platelets which are arranged next to one another and are chained via linking links.
- a metal plate composite of the specified type is known and is e.g. used as protection for aprons and gloves in the butcher's trade. Such metal-plate composites are also often used for decorative purposes, for example in the production of bags, belts, clothing and for application to clothing. Such a metal plate composite is described in DE-OS 38 20 251.4, which goes back to the applicant.
- the known metal platelet composites generally consist of the metal platelets and linking links. The metal plates are extensively equipped with webs which engage in the links. The bond is brought about by the fact that these webs on the underside of the metal plate are bent so that they surround the chain links in a claw-like manner.
- Metal-plate composites of the type described above have considerable disadvantages in use, in particular if they are to be used for decorative purposes, for example in the manufacture of bags and belts and the like.
- One of these disadvantages is the relatively low stability of the composites, which is particularly noticeable when mechanically stressed objects such as bags and belts are made from them. In the case of heavy loads, it is often the case that the webs bend open and the chain is destroyed.
- Another disadvantage is the manufacture of the objects themselves. For example, if you combine several metal plate composites of different designs or colors into a larger one decorative object, it is necessary to open the chain at the seams, thread the individual pieces together and restore the chain by bending the webs. In view of the small size of the individual metal plates, this procedure is laborious and time-consuming and therefore causes a high cost factor.
- the object of the present invention was therefore to create a composite metal plate which has improved stability.
- the handling of the new metal plate composite should be simplified in its application for the production of decorative objects, in order thereby to ensure the greatest possible variation with regard to the connection of different metal plate composite units.
- This object is achieved in that a hot-melt adhesive layer is applied to the application side of the metal plate composite.
- the hot-melt adhesive layer which is applied on the underside, ie on the application side of the metal plate composite, causes the webs which comprise the interlinking links to be clawed together and to the interlinking members. This leads to an increased stability of the metal-plate composite.
- the webs can no longer bend under mechanical stress such as tension or expansion.
- the hot-melt adhesive layer also has the effect that the metal-plate composite is easier and more versatile to handle. Units of different colors, designs and sizes can easily be put together to form a decorative part by ironing them onto a carrier material such as fabric or leather.
- the hot melt melts due to the heat and penetrates into the carrier material and thus creates a stable connection between the metal-plate composite and the carrier material after cooling.
- the carrier material itself can then be assembled into the desired decorative object by sewing or gluing. In this context, it is particularly advantageous that individual pieces of the metal-plate composite no longer have to be threaded together, but can simply be glued to one another.
- the hot-melt adhesive layer is applied to the application side only in the area of the claws of the metal plate, but not to the interlinking members.
- the metal-plate assembly is only charged with the hot-melt adhesive layer in the area of the edges.
- individual units of different metal-plate composites can be put together to form a larger unit by ironing the individual units onto a suitable carrier material.
- a particular advantage of this embodiment is that the individual metal-plate composites are only bonded to the carrier material in their edge regions, that is to say not over the entire surface. As a result, the natural mobility of the metal plate composite and the associated decorative effect are retained to an increased extent.
- the metal plates have a recess for receiving a gem.
- semi-precious stones such as jade, rose quartz, lapis lazuli, onyx and the like are suitable as gemstones.
- Metal-plate composites designed in this way can then be put together to form particularly decorative patterns.
- a particularly decorative embodiment of the metal-plate composite according to the invention is obtained if the gemstones consist of cut glass.
- the gemstones are fastened in the depression of the metal plates by means of a heat-resistant adhesive.
- a heat-resistant adhesive prevents the gemstones from detaching from the depression when the metal plate composite is ironed onto the carrier material.
- the depression is expediently conical, in particular when the gemstones have a conical frame section, as in the case of cut glass stones. This enables a largely positive fit of the stones in the recess.
- the conical depression of the metal plate is designed as a truncated cone with a hole at the cone tip. This will cause a build-up of varnish when painting the platelets or glue when gluing the gemstones in the recess in the Cone tip prevents what would hinder a good adaptation of the setting section of the gemstones to the conical depression of the metal plate.
- the metal plates are preferably made of anodized aluminum or brass. Painted metal is also decorative.
- the coating of the metal-plate composite with the hot-melt adhesive layer can be carried out in different ways.
- One possibility is to heat the otherwise finished tape to 120 ° C and dip its underside in finely scraped hot-melt adhesive powder. The melt adhesive layer is then formed on cooling.
- Another possibility is to roll a binder onto the application side of the otherwise finished metal plate composite.
- Epoxy and polyester paints in particular can be used as binders.
- the tape thus prepared is then immersed in powdered hot melt adhesive while still wet.
- the hot melt adhesive is then melted down by infrared radiation.
- This type of coating in particular enables the hotmelt adhesive layer to be applied only in the area of the claws of the metal platelets.
- the metal plates 5 are circular and have webs or claws 4 offset circumferentially and at 90 ° to one another, which each engage in chain links 6.
- the webs 4 include the chain links 6 claw-like and are bent down to the center of the metal plate 5.
- the chain links 6 are expediently ring-shaped, whereas the metal plates 5 can have any shape that is suitable for forming a network. For example, hexagonal and octagonal shapes are possible. Shapes that differ greatly in their extrapolation from the circular shape, such as oval shapes, are also conceivable.
- the Length of the webs 4, or the diameter of the chain links 6 can be varied relative to one another in order to achieve a uniform crosslinking.
- This metal plate composite is provided with a hot-melt adhesive layer 3 in the region of the bent claws 4.
- the hot melt adhesive layer 3 is applied only to the composite edges 9.
- thermolabile cross-linked polyolefins and polyvinyl compounds are used as hot melt adhesives. These include linear molecular chains or thermolabile cross-linked polyolefins and polyvinyl compounds. Polyolefins and polyvinyl compounds as well as copolymers such as ABS and SAN, polyamides, polyacetals, polycarbonates, polyesters can also be used.
- FIG. 2 shows one of the preferred embodiments as a vertical partial section through a row of platelets of the metal-platelet assembly.
- the webs 4 of the metal platelets 5 include claw-like links 6 in the manner of a claw.
- a conical depression 7 is provided in the metal platelets for receiving a gem 8.
- a hot-melt adhesive layer 3 is applied to the application side 2 of the metal plate composite in the region of the webs 4 bent inwards.
- a transfer film 13 is applied to the top of the composite metal plate.
- This iron-on transfer film 13 is removed from the top 14 after ironing on the composite metal plate. It serves on the one hand for better storage of the composite metal plate until use and on the other hand for protecting the composite metal plate during ironing.
- the gemstones 8 are fastened in the recess 7 by means of a heat-resistant adhesive.
- heat resistant Adhesives can be used phenoplasts, aminoplasts, epoxy resins, acrylic and alkyd resins as well as unsaturated polyester resins.
- FIG. 2 also shows how the hotmelt adhesive layer 3 contributes to increasing the stability of the metal-plate composite 1.
- the hot-melt adhesive When coating the metal plate composite 1 with the hot-melt adhesive, it also penetrates between the contact points of the individual webs 4 (cf. FIG. 1) and thus glues the individual webs 4, which encompass the linking links 6, to one another. This largely prevents bending of the webs due to tension or pressure.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 show special and preferred embodiments of the depressions 7 in the metal plates 12.
- the conical depression has a hole 12.
- the conical recess 7 for receiving gemstones 8 is expanded in a sack shape. Both embodiments prevent excess paint or adhesive from preventing the gemstones 8 from fitting into the recess 7. Together with the hot melt adhesive 3 on the application side 2, this creates an extremely stable metal plate composite 1.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a metal platelet composite consisting of metal platelets which are arranged next to one another and are chained via linking links. A metal plate composite of the specified type is known and is e.g. used as protection for aprons and gloves in the butcher's trade. Such metal-plate composites are also often used for decorative purposes, for example in the production of bags, belts, clothing and for application to clothing. Such a metal plate composite is described in DE-OS 38 20 251.4, which goes back to the applicant. The known metal platelet composites generally consist of the metal platelets and linking links. The metal plates are extensively equipped with webs which engage in the links. The bond is brought about by the fact that these webs on the underside of the metal plate are bent so that they surround the chain links in a claw-like manner.
Metal-plate composites of the type described above have considerable disadvantages in use, in particular if they are to be used for decorative purposes, for example in the manufacture of bags and belts and the like. One of these disadvantages is the relatively low stability of the composites, which is particularly noticeable when mechanically stressed objects such as bags and belts are made from them. In the case of heavy loads, it is often the case that the webs bend open and the chain is destroyed. Another disadvantage is the manufacture of the objects themselves.
The object of the present invention was therefore to create a composite metal plate which has improved stability. At the same time, the handling of the new metal plate composite should be simplified in its application for the production of decorative objects, in order thereby to ensure the greatest possible variation with regard to the connection of different metal plate composite units.
This object is achieved in that a hot-melt adhesive layer is applied to the application side of the metal plate composite.
The hot-melt adhesive layer, which is applied on the underside, ie on the application side of the metal plate composite, causes the webs which comprise the interlinking links to be clawed together and to the interlinking members. This leads to an increased stability of the metal-plate composite. The webs can no longer bend under mechanical stress such as tension or expansion. The hot-melt adhesive layer also has the effect that the metal-plate composite is easier and more versatile to handle. Units of different colors, designs and sizes can easily be put together to form a decorative part by ironing them onto a carrier material such as fabric or leather. The hot melt melts due to the heat and penetrates into the carrier material and thus creates a stable connection between the metal-plate composite and the carrier material after cooling. The carrier material itself can then be assembled into the desired decorative object by sewing or gluing. In this context, it is particularly advantageous that individual pieces of the metal-plate composite no longer have to be threaded together, but can simply be glued to one another.
In a preferred embodiment of the metal-plate composite according to the invention, the hot-melt adhesive layer is applied to the application side only in the area of the claws of the metal plate, but not to the interlinking members. This achieves the same advantages, namely increased stability of the composite and easy handling. In addition, the natural mobility of the metal plate composite is preserved, i.e. the claws enclose the chain links, but are not glued to them. As a result, the individual metal plates remain movable against each other.
In a further preferred embodiment of the metal-plate assembly according to the invention, the metal-plate assembly is only charged with the hot-melt adhesive layer in the area of the edges. In this case too, individual units of different metal-plate composites can be put together to form a larger unit by ironing the individual units onto a suitable carrier material. A particular advantage of this embodiment is that the individual metal-plate composites are only bonded to the carrier material in their edge regions, that is to say not over the entire surface. As a result, the natural mobility of the metal plate composite and the associated decorative effect are retained to an increased extent.
In a further preferred embodiment of the metal plate composite according to the invention, the metal plates have a recess for receiving a gem. In particular, semi-precious stones such as jade, rose quartz, lapis lazuli, onyx and the like are suitable as gemstones. Metal-plate composites designed in this way can then be put together to form particularly decorative patterns.
A particularly decorative embodiment of the metal-plate composite according to the invention is obtained if the gemstones consist of cut glass.
In a very particularly advantageous embodiment of the metal plate composite, the gemstones are fastened in the depression of the metal plates by means of a heat-resistant adhesive. This enables the gemstones to be easily attached, the adhesive being applied either to the gemstones themselves or in the depressions. The use of a heat-resistant adhesive prevents the gemstones from detaching from the depression when the metal plate composite is ironed onto the carrier material.
The depression is expediently conical, in particular when the gemstones have a conical frame section, as in the case of cut glass stones. This enables a largely positive fit of the stones in the recess.
It is further advantageous that the conical depression of the metal plate is designed as a truncated cone with a hole at the cone tip. This will cause a build-up of varnish when painting the platelets or glue when gluing the gemstones in the recess in the Cone tip prevents what would hinder a good adaptation of the setting section of the gemstones to the conical depression of the metal plate.
It is further advantageous to form the conical depression on the cone tip with a sack-shaped extension. This creates a space for a paint or adhesive accumulation, whereby the operation of punching through the metal plate can be omitted and a safe adaptation of the mounting section of the gem to the conical recess of the metal plate is still ensured. The metal plates are preferably made of anodized aluminum or brass. Painted metal is also decorative.
The coating of the metal-plate composite with the hot-melt adhesive layer can be carried out in different ways.
One possibility is to heat the otherwise finished tape to 120 ° C and dip its underside in finely scraped hot-melt adhesive powder. The melt adhesive layer is then formed on cooling.
Another possibility is to roll a binder onto the application side of the otherwise finished metal plate composite. Epoxy and polyester paints in particular can be used as binders. The tape thus prepared is then immersed in powdered hot melt adhesive while still wet. The hot melt adhesive is then melted down by infrared radiation. This type of coating in particular enables the hotmelt adhesive layer to be applied only in the area of the claws of the metal platelets.

All plastics that reversibly soften when heated are used as hot melt adhesives. These include linear molecular chains or thermolabile cross-linked polyolefins and polyvinyl compounds. Polyolefins and polyvinyl compounds as well as copolymers such as ABS and SAN, polyamides, polyacetals, polycarbonates, polyesters can also be used.
Ein Aufbiegen der Stege durch Zug oder Druck kann damit weitgehend verhindert werden.FIG. 2 also shows how the hotmelt adhesive layer 3 contributes to increasing the stability of the metal-plate composite 1.
