Definitions

  • the invention relates to an elastomeric seal intended to be laid and glued in a peripheral groove of a tunnel segment or the like.
  • the segments are segments of tube, having a substantially rectangular or square outline comprising a peripheral groove in which a seal is mounted.
  • seals are supported one on the other and are compressed in the grooves, to form a sealing barrier with respect to the fluids contained in the surrounding land and / or a fluid contained in the tunnel or the conduit formed by the segments.
  • Known segment joints are generally formed of sections of joints connected together by corner pieces at the angles of the segments.
  • the object of the invention is in particular to provide a simple, effective and inexpensive solution to these problems.
  • an elastomeric seal intended to be installed and glued in a peripheral groove of a tunnel segment or the like, this joint comprising oblique sides connecting together two opposite longitudinal faces, one of which is applied to the bottom of the segment groove and has grooves and / or channels parallel longitudinal, characterized in that the cross section of the joint is substantially constant over most of its length and decreases progressively at the angles of the joint corresponding to the angles of the segment.
  • this progressive reduction in the cross section of the joint at the corners of the segment avoids or at least reduces the sealing problems which were previously due to the presence of elastomeric material projecting outside the normal location of the joint, and thereby avoids the problems of assembling the segments.
  • the reduction in cross section of the joint at the angles of the segments increases the space available between the segments for receiving the elastomeric material of the joint displaced by compression, and allows this material to be housed in the desired space, without escaping to the outside.
  • the decrease in the cross section of the joint is due to a decrease in its height relative to the bottom of the groove of the segment.
  • the face of the seal which is opposite to that applied to the bottom of the groove, is flat over most of its length and curved convexly at the angles of the seal corresponding to the angles of the voussoir, or it is curved concave at the corners of the joint, or it is flat and inclined obliquely to the other face of the joint, at these angles.
  • the joint also comprises, in the vicinity of its angles, tenons, bars or anchoring projections formed on its face applied to the bottom of the groove, and intended to penetrate into corresponding housings formed in the bottom of the groove.
  • the joint thus opposes further any longitudinal displacement during the assembly of the segments between them.
  • angles of the joint are made, at least in part, of hydrogonflating elastomer.
  • any vacuum left between the joints at the angles of the segments will be filled by the swelling of the material forming the angles of the joints, which will ensure a perfect seal in these angles.
  • FIGS. 1 to 4 in which a first embodiment of the seal according to the invention has been shown.
  • references 10 designate two adjacent segments, comprising peripheral grooves 12 in which are placed and bonded seals 14 formed of rectilinear sections of gasket connected together by corner pieces 18, which are in general of the molded parts, molding connected to the ends of the straight sections 16.
  • the rectilinear joint sections 16 have for example the cross section shown in FIG. 3, and comprise oblique flanks 20 connecting together two parallel flat faces 22 and 24, one of which forms the back of the joint and the other of which is applied and glued to the bottom of the groove 12.
  • the joint On the side of this face 24, the joint comprises two parallel longitudinal grooves 26, the outlets of which on the bottom of the groove 12 are closed off with continuous soles or thicknesses 28 of elastomeric material.
  • a longitudinal channel 30 is formed inside the seal, between the grooves 26 and slightly above these, that is to say on the back side 22 of the seal.
  • the soles 28 have the effect of increasing the bonding surface of the seal in the groove 12 and of preventing buckling or lateral deformation of the longitudinal support leg which is delimited between the grooves 26.
  • the longitudinal channel 30 allows, thanks to its particular shape, the compression of the seal inside the groove 12, without any harmful shearing force in these parts adjacent to the grooves 26.
  • the corner pieces 18, which interconnect the rectilinear sections 16 of joint have a cross section which gradually decreases towards the angle of the corresponding segment. More specifically, as seen in Figure 1, the height of the joint relative to the bottom of the groove 12 gradually decreases towards the angle of the segment, the back 32 of the joint being curved and convex.
  • the height of the corner piece 18 relative to the bottom of the groove 12 is less than that of the rectilinear section of joint 16, that, in this corner piece, the grooves 26 open onto the bottom of the groove 12, and the corner piece does not include the longitudinal channel 30 of the rectilinear sections of joint.
  • the corner piece 18 is made of hydro-swelling elastomer so that when the segments are assembled and the seals are compressed as shown in FIG. 2, the swelling of this material can fill any void that would remain between the seals level of the angles of the segments.
  • the corner piece 18 can be made entirely of water-swelling elastomer, or only part of this corner piece is made of this material, its other part being made of the same material as the rectilinear sections 16 of joint, or in a less hard material.
  • the curvature of the back 32 of the part angle is concave, instead of being convex as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
  • the back 32 of the corner piece 18 is not curved, but flat and inclined obliquely relative to the bottom of the groove of the segment.
  • Figures 7 and 8 show in this alternative embodiment, the cross section of the straight sections 16 of joint and corner pieces 18, the straight sections 16 of joint comprising a central longitudinal channel 30 and two lateral channels 36 which have a shape approximate crescent, while the corner piece 18 is devoid of it.
  • the invention provides that the corner pieces 18 comprise on their face applied to the bottom of the groove 12, studs or transverse protruding bars, designated by the references 38 , which are received in corresponding housings formed in the bottom of the grooves 12. These projecting parts 38 oppose the longitudinal displacement of the seals in the grooves and hold the seals in place, reducing the amount of elastomeric material displaced towards the corners segments.
