Definitions
- the invention relates to a hand press for the assembly of ribbon cables in connectors according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the exact position of the ribbon cable to the connector is very important in ribbon cable assembly, especially with end connectors, the cable should be flush with the connector.
- the ribbon cable must not withstand too much to avoid incorrect contacting with other components. On the other hand, it must be pushed deep enough into the connector to ensure reliable contacting of the cable with the insulation displacement connections.
- Known hand presses as cable connection tools are usually provided with a sliding table, on which a so-called press insert is slidably mounted.
- the press insert is first pushed into a first position for mounting the connector and the cable.
- the press insert is then pushed together with the ribbon cable pushed into the connector into a second position under the press ram for pressing.
- the connector bears on one side against an end stop.
- the ribbon cable is pushed into the connector from the other side of the connector. It cannot be clearly determined whether the ribbon cable is pushed through the connector to the end stop.
- the ribbon cable is intentionally pushed so far through the connector that it protrudes about 1 cm from the connector at the other end.
- the ribbon cable is then pushed back manually with a slider until it is correctly positioned. This pushing back requires an additional operation, and pushing back is not easy to do with wide ribbon cables.
- the invention has for its object to provide a cable connection tool of the type mentioned in such a way that these disadvantages are avoided.
- the ribbon cable in the plug connector is brought into the correct position without an additional operation by positioning the plug connector under the ram.
- the hand press shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 has a sliding table 4 which can be moved from a first position (see FIG. 2) to a second position (see FIG. 4) under a press ram 10.
- the sliding table 4 is slidably mounted on a base plate 5.
- the base plate 5 has a guide groove 8, in which a guide rail 9 fastened to the sliding table 4 is guided.
- the direction of movement of the sliding table 4 is parallel to the longitudinal axis 101 of a press ram 10, which is attached above the base plate 5 to a lifting device, not shown.
- a press insert 3 is slidably mounted in one direction.
- a guide rail 16 is also fastened to the latter, which is guided in a guide groove 15 arranged in the sliding table 4.
- the direction of movement of the press insert 3 relative to the sliding table 4 is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the sliding table 4 relative to the base plate 5.
- two or more guide pins can also be arranged on the sliding table 4 or on the press insert 3, which are guided in the corresponding guide grooves 8 or 15.
- the press insert 3 has a connector receptacle 6 in which a connector 2 can be positioned.
- the longitudinal axes 61, 101 of connector receptacle 6 and press ram 10 are parallel.
- the sliding table 4 has a cable end stop 7 on the area facing the plug connector 2. This cable end stop 7 is designed such that it bears directly on the connector 2 in the second position of the sliding table 4 under the ram 10.
- the two longitudinal axes 61 and 101 are in the same position in a top view (see FIG. 4).
- the press insert 3 is moved such that the connector receptacle 6 is positioned directly under the press ram 10.
- the press insert 3 is moved in the direction of the cable end stop 7.
- the gap 18 has disappeared and the plug connector 2 is in direct contact with the cable end stop 7.
- a further guide groove 12 is provided in the base plate 5 on the side opposite the cable end stop 7.
- a guide pin 13 is guided in this guide groove 12 and is connected to the press insert 3 via a connecting web 14.
- the further guide groove 12 has an offset 17 between the first and the second position of the sliding table 4, by means of which the pressing insert 3 is displaced perpendicular to this direction of movement when the sliding table 4 is moved from the first to the second position under the press ram 10. As a result of this displacement, the connector receptacle 6 with the connector 2 is brought directly under the press ram 10 (see FIG. 4).
- this ribbon cable 1 is pushed so far through the connector 2 that on the opposite side a protruding end 11 (see FIG. 1) with a length of approximately 1 cm is produced in its original size.
- This protruding end 11 is then in the first position of the sliding table 4 on the cable end stop 7 and fills the space 18. The correct insertion of the ribbon cable 1 into the connector 2 is easy to check for the operator at the protruding end 11.
- the connector 2 In the second position (see FIG. 3), the connector 2 lies against the cable end stop 7, and the ribbon cable 1 is positioned exactly in the connector 2. After pressing, the connector 2 has no protruding cable on the side opposite the ribbon cable 1.
