Ist die Sortierstelle bevorzugt durch eine die Zuschnitte mechanisch führende oder umlenkende Weiche gebildet, so ist diese Sortierweiche in gesonderte Einzelweichen für jeweils einen der genannten Zuschnitte oder mehrzahlige Gruppen solcher Zuschnitte unterteilt, wobei die Einzelweichen unabhängig voneinander jeweils in mindestens zwei Weichenstellungen umsteuerbar sind.
