Description

The invention relates to pavement joints, that is to say joints joining two slabs or portions of road surface likely to undergo relative displacements, said joints being each arranged so as to close off the slot which extends between the end sections facing two such slabs, in order to ensure the continuity of the bearing in line with said slot, each consisting of two rigid frames connected together by a flexible strip of elastomeric or similar material adhered to them, these two frames resting respectively on two shouldered benches hollowed out in the two slabs on either side of the slot.

It relates more particularly to the case where the width of the slot is relatively large, namely on average of the order of 50 to 500 mm, and can vary widely.

It also relates more particularly to the case where on the one hand the flexible strip is constituted by an elastomer body having in cross section the shape of an inverted V or U with thick wings and armed by a rigid plate embedded in this body and covering the slot and where on the other hand each frame ends on the side of the slot by a horizontal lower heel on which rests the corresponding wing of the elastomer body.

In the known embodiments of the above seals see for example FR-A-2 327 364 corresponding to the preamble of claim 1 and, such as that shown diagrammatically in cross section in FIG. 1 of the attached drawing, the plate 1 which arms the flexible band 2 is flat and horizontal and the same applies to the heels 3 of the frames 4.

In this case, the mutual approximations of the armatures 4 symbolized by the arrows F and due to the expansions of the slabs 5 on which these armatures rest, approximations tending to close the slot 6 separating said slabs, result in elevations of the plate 1 according to arrow X and vice versa.

These vertical deflections of the central region of the joint are tolerable only if their amplitude is small.

In practice, it is considered that the level of said central zone of the joint must not exceed by more than 2 mm the average level of the upper faces of the two slabs 5 so that the rapid rolling of a vehicle over the joint does not translate by unpleasant shaking of said vehicle.

However, in practice, when it is very hot and the width of the slot 6 is minimal, it can happen that the difference in height considered reaches, or even exceeds, 5mm.

L'invention a pour but de remédier à cet inconvénient.The invention aims to remedy this drawback.

To this end, the pavement joints according to the invention are characterized in that the underside of the rigid plate enclosing their flexible strip is concave and delimited laterally by two planes slightly inclined on the horizontal and in that the heels of their reinforcements have upper surfaces parallel to these planes.

  • l'angle d'inclinaison de chaque plan incliné sur l'horizontale est compris entre 5 et 10°, étant de préférence de l'ordre de 8° ;
  • la plaque rigide comprend une portion centrale plate horizontale et est raccordée à deux pans latéraux inclinés ;
  • dans un joint selon l'alinéa précédent, les deux pans latéraux sont plus minces que la portion centrale ;
  • la plaque est recouverte par un revêtement en élastomère légèrement bombé ;
In preferred embodiments, use is also made of one and / or the other of the following arrangements:
  • the angle of inclination of each plane inclined to the horizontal is between 5 and 10 °, preferably being of the order of 8 °;
  • the rigid plate comprises a horizontal flat central portion and is connected to two inclined side panels;
  • in a joint according to the preceding paragraph, the two lateral sides are thinner than the central portion;
  • the plate is covered by a slightly domed elastomer coating;
  • for the free state of the joint, the lateral faces of each wing of the elastomer body constituting the flexible strip are inclined on the horizontal with angles of between 30 and 75 °.

In what follows, a preferred embodiment of the invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, of course, in a non-limiting manner.

As previously stated,
  • Figure 1 shows, in a schematic cross section, a known road joint.
  • Figure 2 shows, in vertical cross section, a pavement joint established according to the invention.
  • Figure 3 is an explanatory diagram.

We find in the pavement joint shown in FIG. 2 the elements 1 to 4 and 6 above mentioned in connection with FIG. 1 as well as the arrows F symbolizing the mutual approximation of the two reinforcements 4.

  • la plaque 1 qui arme la bande flexible 2 et est noyée dans cette bande comprend ici deux pans latéraux 7 qui sont légèrement inclinés sur l'horizontale de façon à former une sorte de toit ;
This joint differs essentially from the previous one in the following two points:
  • the plate 1 which arms the flexible strip 2 and is embedded in this strip here comprises two side panels 7 which are slightly inclined on the horizontal so as to form a kind of roof;
  • the upper faces 8 of the heels 3 of the frames 4 on which the bases of the two wings of the strip are adhered are raised towards the slot 6 so as to be substantially parallel to the opposite faces of the panels 7.

Pour parvenir à ce dernier résultat, l'épaisseur de chaque talon 3 peut croître progressivement jusqu'à sa tranche terminale, disposée au voisinage de la fente 6.To achieve this last result, the thickness of each heel 3 can gradually increase until its end edge, disposed in the vicinity of the slot 6.

The two sides 7 are preferably joined together by a flat central portion 9 with parallel faces horizontal which extends over a width substantially equal to half the total width of the plate 1 formed by these panels and by this central portion.

L'angle commun a d'inclinaison sur l'horizontale des pans 7 et des faces 8 est compris entre 5 et 10°, étant de préférence de l'ordre de 8°.The common angle of inclination to the horizontal of the panels 7 and 8 of the faces is between 5 and 10 °, being preferably about 8 °.

The elastomer body constituting the flexible strip 2 is composed of two identical prismatic rolls having in cross section the general shape of a parallelogram: the free faces of these rolls, that is to say those which are not adhered to the sides 7 or faces 8, are inclined to the horizontal angle of between 30 and 75 °.

Each of the panels 7 above is preferably thinner than the central portion 9 which it extends, which makes it possible to increase the vertical thickness of each loaf 2 without reducing the mechanical resistance of the joint, since the latter is called to work mainly in its central portion.

We see on fig 2:
  • studs 10 coming from molding with the plate 1 and projecting from the upper faces of the sides 7, studs making it possible to center said plate in its mold during the manufacture of the seal by molding the elastomer body, which completely coats said plate,
  • and two vertical walls 11 which each extend upwards the end of a heel 3, the most distant from the slot 6 so as to constitute with this heel an armature 4.

Experience shows that with a joint of the kind described above, the vertical deflections of the central portion, corresponding to the maximum horizontal deformations of the joint, remain within acceptable tolerances, the amplitude of these deflections remaining less than 2 mm. on either side of a middle position.

An explanation of this surprising result can be drawn from the observation of the diagram in FIG. 3 on which there is a joint comprising:
  • a rigid central part 1 having the shape of a roof with two inclined faces 7,
  • and two lateral frames 4 whose heels 3 have, below said sides 7, upper faces 8 raised upwards, towards the center of the joint.

In this diagram, there is no longer any elastomeric bread 2, the panels 7 resting on the faces 8 so as to be able to slide along the latter.

It is clear that, in such a joint, the mutual horizontal approximation of the reinforcements 4 according to the arrows F has the effect of lowering the central part 1 according to the arrow Y instead of raising it as previously.

This effect, which is due to the inclinations of the mutually juxtaposed faces, is therefore the reverse of the previous one.

It is not fully found in the joint described above, which comprises elastomer bars interposed between the oblique facing faces and adhered against them.

But by making these faces oblique, a partial application of the signaled effect is obtained, that is to say a "compensation" resulting in a significant reduction in the vertical deformations to be combated.

Following this, and whatever the embodiment adopted, there is finally a pavement joint whose constitution, operation and advantages, - in particular the absence of perceptible vertical deformation of the central area even for states of extreme deformation of the joint -, result sufficiently from the above.
