Definitions
- the present invention relates to wind musical instruments, the mouth of which communicates with the pavilion, directly or via a circuit for changing the tone, by means of a barrel.
- wind musical instruments such as small leathers, such as the trumpet, the bugle, the cornet, the French horn, medium brass instruments such as the viola, the trombone with slides, the trombone with piston, the large brass instruments , such as bass, double bass, tuba, cortuba, helicon, bassophone, bass trombon, double bass trombon, as well as fanfare drums, such as bugle and trumpet-bugle.
- An instrument of this type is already known, with a cylindrical barrel having an inlet bore communicating with the mouth of the instrument, an outlet bore communicating with the horn of the instrument, a bypass bore and a return bore .
- the bypass bore communicates with the return bore through a tone change circuit.
- Means are provided for placing the entry bore in communication with the exit bore which is in its extension or with the bypass bore, the air moving in this case in the barrel making two 90 ° elbows °. It follows a significant pressure drop very different from that which occurs when air passes in a straight line from the inlet bore to the outlet bore. The instrumentalist must correct this variation by blowing harder. It is very difficult for him to measure exactly the additional force of the breath to compensate for the pressure drop when changing the register.
- the invention overcomes this drawback with a musical instrument which facilitates the emission, so that the instrumentalist can play more accurately with less effort.
- the invention therefore relates to a musical instrument, of the type indicated above, in which the inlet bore and the outlet bore are formed at different levels along the axis of the barrel. Thanks to the distance thus available between the two holes, it is possible to give the light of the rotor putting them in communication, a slightly pronounced curvature which is substantially equivalent for the emission to a passage in a straight line of the entry bore at the exit hole.
- This characteristic also makes it possible to arrange the entry bore and the diversion bore at different levels along the axis of the barrel and to use the same light of the rotor to feed as desired from the entry bore the outlet bore or the branch bore, in particular when the outlet bore and the branch bore are arranged symmetrically with respect to the inlet bore. In this case, the broadcast is exactly the same, regardless of the register.
- the entry bore is formed in one of the end faces of the cylindrical barrel and, preferably, is axial.
- the outlet bore and the bypass bore, as well as, where appropriate, the return bore are more distant from the front face in which the entry bore is formed than from the opposite front face.
- the outlet bore, the bypass bore and possibly also the return bore are at the same level along the axis of the barrel, preferably being radial.
- the invention relates particularly to a wind musical instrument, the mouth of which communicates with the horn directly or via a tone change circuit by means of a barrel formed by a cylindrical shell having an entry bore. communicating with the mouth, an exit bore communicating with the horn, a bypass bore and a return bore between which the tone change circuit is mounted, of a cylindrical rotor mounted rotating in the shell with respect to its axis , in one of the semi-cylindrical halves of which is formed a first lumen substantially transverse to the axis of the rotor and of which the other semi-cylindrical half, diametrically opposite to the first, of which is formed a second lumen, one of the ends of which opens onto the lateral face of the rotor in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis, and of a mechanism intended to rotate the rotor around of its axis relative to the shell so as to put the entry bore in communication as desired with the exit bore or with the branch bore by the second light.
- the inlet communicating with
- bypass bore and the return bore are arranged symmetrically with respect to the outlet bore.
- the paper clip shown in Figure 1 has a mouthpiece 1 that the player brings to his mouth and which is extended by a bent pipe 2 called a slide opening into the axial inlet bore 3 of the cylindrical shell 4 of a barrel.
- the shell of the barrel also includes an outlet bore 5, a bypass bore 6 and a return bore 7. These three holes 5, 6 and 7 are radial and are, in the same transverse plane, more distant from the front face where opens the entry bore 3 only from the opposite front face.
- a cylindrical rotor 8 comprising in a semi-cylindrical half a lumen 9 substantially transverse to the axis X, X ′ of the rotor and a lumen 10 one of the ends of which opens out along an axial orifice in one of the lateral faces of the rotor and the other end of which opens into a radial orifice on the lateral face of the rotor.
- the outlet bore 5 communicates by a pipe 11 with the roof 12.
- the bypass bore 6 communicates by means of a circuit for changing tone 13 with the return bore 7.
- the pipe 2 and the pipe 1 are connected by a cross member 14 on which is pivotally mounted a lever or a pallet 15 connected to a crank 16 attacking an axial journal 17 of the rotor and thus allowing the rotate a quarter turn.
- the entry bore 3 communicates by light 10 with the exit bore 5.
- the rotor has rotated 90 °.
- the inlet bore 3 communicates with the bypass bore 6 by the light 10, while the return bore 7 communicates with the outlet bore 5 by the light 9.
- the path followed by the air to pass from the inlet bore 3 to the outlet bore 5 or to the bypass bore 6 is exactly the same in length and in curvature. This curvature is all the less pronounced as the holes 5 and 6 are more distant from the front face of the shell, into which the entry bore 3 opens, than from the opposite front face.

Abstract
