Description

The present invention relates to a handle attached to packaging, and the means of positioning on a packaging.

It is common to equip cardboard or similar packaging with molded or injected plastic handles. The handles generally comprise a central body or part in the form of a strap provided, at each of its ends, with a hooking tab giving each end of this handle a T-shaped profile and intended to be engaged from the outside, in a slot made for this purpose in the wall of the package. Each tab is therefore normally perpendicular to the plane of the strap constituting the handle body but, prior to its engagement in the slot which is intended for it, it is tilted by approximately 90 ° so that one of its ends is applied against the handle body.

Le brevet US-A-4 176 423, par exemple, décrit des poignées en matière plastique fabriquées à partir d'un ruban (ou bande) moulé par extrusion, ayant en coupe le profil longitudinal des poignées et prédécoupé transversalement à intervalles réguliers pour y définir les poignées, chaque prédécoupe laissant subsister entre les poignées des ponts de liaison sectionnables.US-A-4,176,423, for example, describes plastic handles made from an extrusion molded tape (or strip), having in section the longitudinal profile of the handles and precut transversely at regular intervals to define the handles, each pre-cut leaving between the handles of the sectionable connecting bridges.

Furthermore, to allow the grip of the handle by the user and the passage of his hand between the handle and the wall of the package, the distance separating the slots provided in the wall of the package for the passage and the mooring of the grip lugs is less than the length of the handle body which, therefore, must be partially bent before engagement of the lugs in the slots. It is understood that this operation is difficult to perform automatically.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks. For this purpose, handles are produced as defined in claim 1 divided into two parts with regard to US-A-4 176 423.

To facilitate the automatic positioning of these handles, according to an advantageous characteristic of the invention, these handles are molded, injected in strips, each of which is constituted by a plurality of handles assembled side by side by bridges of easily sectionable material.

This arrangement has the advantage of considerably facilitating the feeding of the machines or means provided for their installation, as defined in claims 2 to 5. According to the invention, each hooking lug is shaped so as to present a cross section in V whose bisecting plane is parallel to that of the other tab and to the plane of symmetry of the handle.

In this case, these handles can be manufactured by extrusion, in a continuous ribbon and they can be precut in this ribbon, so as to leave between each of them and those adjacent to it, bridges of material easily sectionable during placing a handle on a package.

It should be noted that this tape, after pre-cut handles, can be easily wound, which considerably facilitates the transport and storage of these handles.

In any case, the invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing representing, by way of nonlimiting examples, two embodiments of this handle:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of a handle not forming part of the invention.

Figure 2 is a perspective view illustrating its implementation process.

Figure 3 is a front elevational view showing the means for the establishment of this handle.

Figure 4 is a perspective view similar to Figure 1, showing an alternative embodiment of this handle, according to the invention.

Figures 5 and 6 are, on an enlarged scale, views illustrating the method of securing this handle to the wall of the package for which it is intended.

Figure 7 is a perspective view similar to Figure 2, illustrating the handle of Figure 4 after manufacture.

The handle 2 is of the type comprising a central body 3 in the form of a semi-rigid strap equipped, at each of its ends, with a hooking tab 4, the assembly being made of plastic material such as PVC or other similar.

The body 3 of this handle is curved so that the ends 3a of its body 3 are separated from each other by a distance L₁ substantially equal to the distance L₂ separating the slots 5 formed in the wall 6 of the packaging for which this handle 2 is intended, to allow it to be moored with the hooking tabs 4. As a result, thanks to this arrangement, each handle 2 can be presented without constraint above the wall 6 of the packaging and its legs engaged in the slots 5 of this wall 6 without it being necessary to take special measures to bring the mooring legs 4 to the same spacing as the slots 5.

In the example illustrated in FIG. 1, each attachment tab 4 is constituted by a substantially oval plate and this handle 2 is molded so that the median plane 4a of each tab 4 is parallel to the plane 4a of the other tab 4 as well as to the plane of symmetry 7 of the handle 2. In this example, the body 3 of the handle 2 is bent by making, in its middle part, a rounded angle 3b so that that each leg 4 makes, with the corresponding strand of the body 3, the same acute angle 8.

These means comprise a guide support 9 or feed chute, curved to the profile of the handle 2, disposed above the packaging to be fitted with this handle and so that its downstream end is offset horizontally relative to the slots 5 of this packaging in the opposite direction to the movement of the handles 2 on this guide 9. Each handle 2, which exceeds the downstream end of the guide support 9, is then moved transversely, in the direction of the wall 6 of this packaging, au- above the slots 5 of the latter, by two pushers 11 with alternating vertical movement, these pushers 11 causing the engagement of the latching tabs 4 in the said slots until they are fully engaged beyond the wall 6. It is easy to see that the presence of the pushers 11, each of which acts in one of the angles 8 formed by the connection between a latching tab 4 and the body of the handle 2, tends to tilt the tabs 4 into the sen s arrows 12, which has the effect, as soon as a tensile force directed in the direction of arrow 13 is exerted on the body 3 of the handle 2 considered, to bring them into a plane parallel to the wall 6.

The positioning of the handles 2 on the packages intended to receive them is considerably improved on each handle 2, instead of being molded in isolation, is molded into strips, each of which comprises a plurality of handles 2 linked to each other by bridges of material 14 and 15. From this material, each handle 2 is easily guided by the guide support 9 of the positioning machine. In this case, the means for fitting the handles 2 comprise, in addition to the guide support 9 and the pushers 11, blades 16 each of which is parallel to one of the strands of the body 3 of the handle 2, just downstream of the end of the guide support 9, so that each of them plays the role of shear blade of the material bridges 14 and 15, while the considered end of the guide support 9 plays the role of counter -blade. Advantageously and as shown in Figure 3, each blade 16 is linked to its support 17, integral pushers 11, by elastic means such as springs 18.

La figure 4 montre une variante d'exécution 2′ de cette poignée, variante dans laquelle chaque patte d'accrochage 4′ qui équipe chaque extrémité de son corps 3′ est conformée de manière à présenter une section transversale en V dont le plan bissecteur 4′a est parallèle au plan bissecteur 4′a de l'autre patte d'accrochage 4′ et parallèle aussi au plan de symétrie 7′ de cette poignée 2′.Figure 4 shows an alternative embodiment 2 ′ of this handle, a variant in which each hooking lug 4 ′ which equips each end of its body 3 ′ is shaped so as to have a V-shaped cross section whose bisecting plane 4 ′ A is parallel to the bisector plane 4′a of the other hooking tab 4 ′ and also parallel to the plane of symmetry 7 ′ of this handle 2 ′.

As in the previous example, this handle 2 ′ is manufactured so that its body 3 ′ is curved so that the spacing L′₁ between its fastening tabs 4 ′ is substantially equal to the spacing L₂ of the slots 5 provided in the wall 6 of the package to be equipped with this handle 2 ′.

Cette mise en place est d'ailleurs illustrée par les figures 5 et 6.The positioning of this handle 2 ′ is carried out substantially in the same way as that of the handle 2 described above and with entirely comparable means comprising pushers 11. This positioning is moreover illustrated by FIGS. 5 and 6.

This alternative embodiment of handles 2 ′ has the advantage that the presence of the pushers is not used to ensure the mooring, on the internal face of the wall 6 of the packaging, of the latching tabs 4 ′. The elasticity of the material constituting these legs and the shape which is given to them is sufficient to obtain this result. For this, the spacing between the free edges of the fastening tabs 4 ′ must, in the absence of any constraint, be greater than the width of the slots 5 but must also be able to be reduced, by elastic deformation, to a lower value to this width.

As appears from the examination of FIG. 7, the shape given to this handle 2 ′ makes it possible to manufacture it by extrusion. It then suffices to provide, at the outlet of the extrusion die, a blade possibly carried by a rotary cylinder and conforming to the profile of the extruded ribbon to cut the handles 2 ′ or better still, a pre-cut allowing to remain, as in the previous example, material bridges 14 ′ and 15 ′ between each handle 2 ′ and those which surround it.

This manufacturing process therefore makes it possible to considerably lower the cost price of these handles 2 ′ since they can be manufactured continuously and, optionally, stored and shipped after being rolled up after the precut.

When they are put in place, it will be possible to use means quite similar to those intended for putting the handle of FIG. 1 in place, as illustrated in FIG. 3.
