Claims (9)

  1. An apparatus for cutting strip-like sewing material on a sewing machine by means of power-operated cutters cooperating in the manner of scissors, with two cutter plates (1, 2) which are each constructed with two cutting edges (1.1, 1.2; 2.1, 2.2) and which can be pressed against each other on a mounting (3) and at the same time are disposed so that they are linearly displaceable in opposite directions to each other, characterised in that the two cutter plates (1, 2) each have a snout-like projection (1.3, 2.3) at their upper ends as viewed in the operating position and separated from their base part (1.5, 2.5) by a trapezoidal indent (1.4, 2.4), wherein on one cutter plate (1) the sloping lower edge of the snout-like projection (1.3) and the horizontal edge of the trapezoidal indent (1.4) of this cutter plate (1) which is opposite thereto are each constructed as a cutting edge (1.1, 1.2), whilst the other cutter plate (2) has a cutting edge (2.1, 2.2) both on the horizontal upper edge and on the sloping lower edge of its snout-like projection (2.3).
  2. An apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the cutter plates (1, 2) are of substantially quadrangular shape and are accommodated on the mounting (3) in such a way that they adopt a vertical position after the mounting is fastened to the sewing machine (N) and at the same time are oriented at right angles to the direction (B) of advance of the sewing material.
  3. An apparatus according to claim 1 and 2, characterised in that the mounting (3) consists of a support (3.1) for receiving the two cutter plates (1,2), an operating mechanism (3.2), which is likewise anchored to the support (3.1), for operating one of the two cutter plates (1, 2), namely the movable cutter plate (2), and a retaining plate (3.3) on which the support (3.1) and the operating mechanism (3.2) are disposed fixed, and which can be installed on a sewing machine (N).
  4. An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised by the association of the two cutter plates (1, 2) with each other, so that on each upward stroke of the movable cutter plate (2) the cutting edge (2.1) on the horizontal upper edge of its snout-like projection (2.3) cooperates with the cutting edge (1.1) on the sloping lower edge of the snout-like projection (1.3) of the fixed cutter plate (1) and on each downward stroke of the movable cutter plate (2) the cutting edge (2.2) on the sloping lower edge of its snout-like projection (2.3) cooperates with the cutting edge (1.2) on the horizontal edge of the trapezoidal indent (2.4) of the fixed cutter plate (1).
  5. An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that a threaded nut (4) with a spring washer (4.1) is provided on the face of the movable cutter plate (2) remote from the fixed cutter plate (1), which threaded nut cooperates with one end of a screw bolt (4.2) passing through the two cutter plates (1, 2) for adjusting the cutting pressure with which the two cutter plates (1, 2) are pressed against each other during the cutting operation, the other end of which screw bolt is seated in the fixed cutter plate (1) in a manner such that it is displaceable during the cutting operation.
  6. An apparatus according to claim 5, characterised by a window-like recess (1.6), which is not a through recess and which is incorporated into the face of the fixed cutter plate (1) remote from the movable cutter plate (2), with sidewalls (1.6.1) which extend vertically in the operating position and a slot (1.6.3), disposed in the middle of its base (1.6.2) and passing through parallel to the sidewalls (1.6.1), for the pressure-producing screw bolt (4.2) and another bolt (3.2.2) which forms part of the operating connection (3.2.1) between the movable cutter plate (2) and its operating mechanism (3.2).
  7. An apparatus according to claim 6, characterised in that the two bolts (3.2.2., 4.2) are seated in a sliding carriage (5) which is displaceable together with the movable cutter plate (2) and which at the same time can be guided along the sidewalls (1.6.1) of the window-like recess (1.6) by means of four rollers (5.1) at the base (1.6.2) of the window-like recess.
  8. An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterised by a pneumatic pressure line (6) which is placed on the face of the fixed cutter plate (1) remote from the movable cutter plate (2) and which is connected to at least one nozzle (6.1) disposed in the vicinity of the trapezoidal indent (1.4) of the fixed cutter plate.
  9. An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 8, characterised in that the tip of each snout-like projection (1.3, 2.3) is rigidly attached via a brace to the base part (1.5, 2.5) of the cutter plate (1, 2).
