Abstract
An oil pump (4) of an internal combustion engine delivers dirty oil through a vertical oil supply channel (6) into an annular channel (7) of an oil filter flange (2). From there, the oil flows through the oil filter (1) and a central bore (9) into a main oil channel (15). Since the oil supply channel (6) opens into the ring channel (7) above the central bore (9) and the main oil channel (15) runs above the central bore (9), the filter oil level does not drop below the level of the dirty oil inlet into the ring channel (7 ). A complete emptying of the oil filter when the engine is switched off is thus prevented and a rapid build-up of oil pressure is encouraged when the engine is started again.
Description
The invention relates to a device for cleaning lubricating oil according to the preamble of claim 1.
A device in which the contaminated oil is conveyed by a pump driven by the internal combustion engine and first flows through a supply channel into an annular channel accommodated in the oil filter flange and from there into the filter housing is known from DE-PS 33 44 568 When the engine is switched off, the clean oil chamber of the oil filter is located below a channel in the flow direction. This delays the build-up of the necessary oil pressure when the engine is restarted.
The object of the invention is to prevent the oil filter from being completely emptied when the engine is switched off.
The object is achieved with the characterizing features of claim 1.
In order to implement such a device in a simple manner, in a further embodiment of the invention the oil supply channel is guided so close to the ring channel that it has a reduced depth in the area of the oil supply channel. Furthermore, the web enclosed by the annular channel is at a short distance from the plane running through the flange connection surface and the oil supply channel is designed as a bore perpendicular to the horizontal parting plane of the crankcase halves.
The advantage that can be achieved with this invention is, in particular, that the oil level in the filter after the engine has been switched off does not drop below the top level of the central bore leading to the main oil channel, despite the filter arrangement being clearly above the oil level of the engine oil pan. The oil filter is therefore always more than half full. This ensures a quick build-up of oil pressure after starting the engine. By bringing the oil supply channel close to the flange connection surface, the bore enters the ring channel directly, so that no further connection from the oil supply channel to the ring channel is necessary. Furthermore, this arrangement enables a material-saving, cast-appropriate design of the crankcase in the region of the oil filter flange and the attachment of the oil supply channel bore in the same clamping of the crankcase half in which the crankcase separating surface is machined. Finally, the somewhat back end face of the web enclosed by the ring channel reduces the surface of the flange connection surface to be machined.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to drawings.

An oil filter 1 is attached to the
Thus, the
In order to keep the machining effort on the crankcase upper part 5 low, its material thickness in the area of the
