Description

The invention relates to a device for cleaning lubricating oil according to the preamble of claim 1.

A device in which the contaminated oil is conveyed by a pump driven by the internal combustion engine and first flows through a supply channel into an annular channel accommodated in the oil filter flange and from there into the filter housing is known from DE-A-33 44 568. When the engine is switched off, the clean oil chamber of the oil filter is emptied via a channel in the flow direction below the filter. This delays the build-up of the necessary oil pressure when the engine is restarted.

The object of the invention is to prevent the oil filter from being emptied when the engine is switched off.

The object is achieved with the characterizing features of claim 1.

In order to implement such a device in a simple manner, in a further embodiment of the invention the oil supply channel is guided so close to the ring channel that it has a reduced depth in the area of the oil supply channel. Furthermore, the web enclosed by the ring channel is at a short distance from the plane running through the flange connection surface.

The advantage that can be achieved with this invention is, in particular, that the oil level in the filter after the engine has been switched off, despite a filter arrangement well above the oil level of the engine oil, does not drop below the top level of the central bore leading to the main oil channel. The oil filter is therefore always more than half full. This ensures a quick build-up of oil pressure after starting the engine. By bringing the oil supply channel close to the flange end face the hole directly into the ring channel, so that no further connection from the oil supply channel to the ring channel is necessary. Furthermore, this arrangement enables a material-saving, cast-appropriate design of the crankcase in the region of the oil filter flange and the attachment of the oil supply channel bore in the same clamping of the crankcase half in which the crankcase separating surface is machined. Finally, the somewhat back end face of the web enclosed by the ring channel reduces the surface of the flange connection surface to be machined.

Another arrangement that prevents the oil filter from being emptied is known from DE-C-10 34 923. Here, an oil filter is arranged hanging vertically on a filter flange of a crankcase part. An oil supply channel supplied by an oil pump opens into an annular channel of the filter flange, which is connected with a central bore to a main oil channel supplying the engine with pure oil.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to drawings.

  • Fig. 3 einen Schnitt entlang der Linie III-III aus Fig. 2,
  • Fig. 4 einen Schnitt entlang der Linie IV-IV aus Fig. 3.
It shows:
  • 1 shows a section through an internal combustion engine with a device for cleaning lubricating oil,
  • 2 shows a section through an oil filter mounted on the flange,
  • 3 shows a section along the line III-III from FIG. 2,
  • FIG. 4 shows a section along the line IV-IV from FIG. 3.

An oil filter 1 is attached to the filter flange 2 of an internal combustion engine 3 . The dirty oil delivered by an oil pump 4 flows through an oil supply channel 6 arranged in the crankcase upper part 5 of the internal combustion engine 3 into an annular channel 7 in the filter flange 2 .
The dirty oil passes through a junction 8 from the oil supply channel 6 into the ring channel 7 , which arises from the penetration of the ring channel 7 with the bore for the oil supply channel 6 .
Thus, the oil feed passage 6 7 does not intersect the annular channel below a central bore 9, the depth of the annular channel 7 is reduced in a part 10 of the filter flange 2 close to the oil supply passage. 6 The dirty oil flows out of the ring channel 7 through inlet openings 11 into the oil filter 1 . There it initially flows through an annular dirty oil chamber 12 , which is delimited on the outside by a sheet metal housing 13 and on the inside by a filter cartridge 14 . The dirty oil is cleaned in the filter cartridge 14 and then emerges as pure oil through the central bore 9 into a main oil channel 15 . The main oil channel 15 supplies the internal combustion engine 3 with pure oil and is located above the central bore 9 . Since the junction 8 and the main oil channel 15 are above the central bore 9 , the sinks Filter oil level S (FIG. 2) with the internal combustion engine 3 switched off not below the level of the junction 8 in the ring channel 7 .

In order to keep the machining effort on the crankcase upper part 5 low, the material thickness in the area of the filter flange 2 is increased to such an extent that the oil supply channel 6 can be produced as a bore perpendicular to the plane of the crankcase division.
An end face 16 facing the oil filter 1 of a web 17 enclosed by the annular channel 7 has a slight distance H from a flange connection face 18 and thereby reduces the size of the surface to be machined for an oil-tight fit of the oil filter 1 . Furthermore, the distance H enables a uniform oil entry through all circularly arranged inlet openings 11 into the dirty oil chamber 12 .
