Abstract

A mast (1) is bent forward along part of its length in the unloaded state. To facilitate the formation of a convex sail profile whose camber decreases from the foot to the top, the bend (2) is located in the lower half (1a) of the mast.

Description

The invention relates to a sail mast, in particular for a sail board, which has a pre-curved course over part of its length in the unloaded state.

As can be seen, for example, from DE-OS 33 00 349, there are already sailing masts with a pre-curved course in order to be able to influence the bending properties of this mast and thereby influence the mast deflection under load. So far, however, the masts mostly made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic have only been pre-curved in the area of the mast end and straight in the foot area, so that unfavorable conditions for setting sails occur in this foot area, which is stiffer due to the greater mast strength. In order to achieve a good effect, the sail should be bulged in the lower area than in the upper area, and the known masts, whose flexibility increases from bottom to top and which may still have a pre-curve in the upper end area, therefore hinder the desired one Formation of the sail belly curve at least in the foot area of the mast. It is therefore a loss of effectiveness of the sail, uneven sail tensions and greater sail wear and, above all, less favorable sailing conditions.

The invention is therefore based on the object to remedy these deficiencies and to create a sail mast of the type described, which ensures the desired formation of the sail belly in the simplest manner, brings with it a uniform and therefore gentle sail load and offers the conditions for optimal sailing conditions.

The invention solves this problem in that the mast bend is provided in the lower half of the mast. This allows the mast to follow the desired sail belly curve precisely despite its higher rigidity in the foot area and supports the formation of an optimal sail belly curve. The tensile forces in the sail are reduced, the sail is evenly loaded, it is easy to enforce and guarantees optimal propulsion properties. The best sailing conditions are achieved both in speed sailing and maneuvering sailing.

In the drawing, a sail mast according to the invention is illustrated in more detail using a schematic side view.

A sail mast 1 made of glass fiber-reinforced plastic has a pre-bent course over part of its length in the unloaded state, the mast bend 2 being provided in the region of the lower mast half 1a and the upper mast half 1b extending in a straight line. This curvature in the foot part of the mast favors the formation of a sail belly curve flattening from the foot to the tip, so that the sail mast 1 according to the invention offers all the prerequisites for optimal sailing and ensures the best sailing properties.
