Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a core support for positioning cores in molds, in particular for thin-walled castings made of aluminum alloys in the sand casting process.
In foundry technology, molds are used for the production of castings, in which cores are inserted. A distinction is made here between inner cores, which represent the inner contours of castings, and outer cores for the outer contours, core marks and core supports being provided for fixing the cores in the form.
The inner cores consist of core sand or metal. Since they are surrounded by the casting metal, they must be highly fire-resistant. After casting, they must not hinder the shrinkage of the casting and should, if they consist of sand, disintegrate easily. The outer cores reflecting the outer contours of the castings consist of core sand.
The core brands are extensions in the core beyond what is necessary, which are enclosed on all sides by molding sand. If it is not possible to work with core brands, core supports are used that weld into the casting. The core supports serve primarily to maintain the specified wall thicknesses of the castings.
When casting cast parts without the use of core supports, the uneven casting speeds of the melt can result in the core being subjected to pressure loading on one side and thereby experiencing a shift in position. This leads to faulty castings with different wall thicknesses. This is counteracted by core supports, which are placed in critical areas in such a way that they prevent the core from shifting.
A known metal core support consists of two perforated support plates with a connecting web arranged between them. Since the core supports remain in the casting after casting, this leads, particularly in the case of thin-walled castings, to the weakening of the casting at this point. However, even with thick-walled castings, an inhomogeneous casting wall is produced by the core support remaining in the casting after casting.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a core support of the type mentioned at the outset, with which the cores can be securely held in a desired position in the mold and the finished castings in the area of the core supports have a homogeneous casting wall.
This object is essentially achieved in that the core support consists of a flame-retardant plastic. The plastic core support keeps the core in the desired position until it is completely washed by the melt and thus experiences an even load. However, since the plastic core support gasifies during the casting process, the space that the core support has occupied merges into a homogeneous casting structure. The area that the core support occupied before the casting process thus forms a homogeneous casting wall with absolute tightness.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the core support consists of a rigid foam, in particular foamed polystyrene. Rigid foams have only a low elastic deformability with a relatively high resistance to deformation. Polystyrene has the advantage over other plastics that after gasification the The core support leaves almost no residue in the mold. A core support according to the invention consisting of an extruded, flame-retardant polystyrene rigid foam can be formed in a particularly simple manner in the form of a cylinder or cube. Even with larger dimensions, it remains in its position until the core is completely enclosed by the melt.
In a further development of this inventive idea, the core support is cut, sawn or punched out of a polystyrene rigid foam plate. This means that the core support can not only be easily adapted to the required dimensions of the mold, but can also be produced very easily, efficiently and therefore also inexpensively.
To attach the known metal core supports, these have an additional pin that must be hammered into the core or the wall of the outer shape. This often leads to core breakage or cracking of the outer shape, particularly in the case of thin cores. The pins of the metal core supports are therefore frequently glued or hammered into pre-drilled holes in the core or the outer shape. The core support according to the invention therefore advantageously has an adhesive layer on one side. With the help of this adhesive layer, the core supports can be easily positioned on cores and core packages. The adhesive layer is kept so thin that the prescribed dimensions of the castings can be maintained.
According to the invention it is provided that the adhesive layer consists of a solvent-free hot melt adhesive. The hot melt adhesive has the advantage that it is easy to apply, ensures a stable connection at higher temperatures and has only a slight gas evolution at high temperatures.
A protective strip, in particular a siliconized paper strip, is expediently arranged on the adhesive layer. This strip not only protects the adhesive layer, it also prevents several core supports from accidentally sticking together.
