Abstract

Despite the use of a reflector (5) for directing the light, it is the aim in an outdoor-lighting fitting having a transparent lighting fitting housing (1) to obtain the visual outward appearance when the light source (3) is switched on in a manner adapted to the outward appearance in daytime, and to obtain in the event of a sufficiently high proportion of light directed onto a working surface as uniform as possible a distribution of brightness on the surface of the lighting fitting housing (1). This is achieved by using for the body of the reflector (5) a cloudy, translucent carrier material which is evaporated on with a partially transmitting reflective layer in the visual wavelength region. It is thus possible, in particular, for light fittings in pedestrian zones to be attractively styled and at the same time optimised in terms of lighting technology. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a luminaire with a transparent luminaire housing and a reflector arranged within the luminaire housing and assigned to a light source and made of a translucent carrier material with a partially transparent reflection layer in the visual wavelength range.

Such a lamp is known from DE-C 861 090. The light source is surrounded by a reflector made of glass, which is mirrored so that about half of the light rays striking it can pass through unhindered and only the remaining part of the light is reflected. With this luminaire, which is preferably suitable for medical workplaces and treatment stations, in addition to brightening the surrounding space, spotlighting of the work area is particularly to be achieved.

Furthermore, from FR-A 2 125 297 a partially permeable evaporated reflector made of a transparent plastic is known, so that a part of the light coming from the lamp shines through here too. If such a reflector is installed in a luminaire with a transparent housing, this has at night, i.e. during lamp operation, a very different appearance from the day's impression, which is considered unsatisfactory. A luminaire that looks aesthetic during the day with a reflector and good light-directing properties regularly loses the usual shape impression at night.

The invention has for its object the visual of a lamp with a transparent lamp housing despite the use of a reflector for light control To match the appearance of the luminaire housing with the light source switched on during the night to the appearance during the day and to obtain the most uniform possible brightness distribution on the surface of the luminaire housing when there is a sufficient amount of directed light on a usable area.

This object is achieved by a lamp with the characterizing features of claim (1). Developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.

The advantage of the invention is that due to the partially transparent vapor deposition of the reflector, part of the light emanating from the light source reaches the clouded carrier material through the reflective layer. The clouding causes this light component to scatter, so that the shape impression of the luminaire housing is maintained during the night when the light source is switched on.

The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of the drawing consisting of a FIG.

The exterior lamp shown has a spherical lamp housing (1) which is formed from a narrow, ring-shaped central part (1a) and its covers (1b) which close both open sides. The two approximately bowl-shaped covers are made of transparent material, preferably provided with a surface design in addition to a light structure, and give the luminaire attached to a mast (2) a certain characteristic appearance during the day. A light source (3), for example an ellipsoidal bulb-shaped high-pressure lamp and merely indicated fittings (4) are attached to the central part (1a) within the lamp housing. A hood-shaped reflector (5) is arranged around the light source (3) as an element essential to the invention, the outer reflector Contour is not perceived by the eye of a viewer during the day or is only perceived as a slight shadow.

The reflector (5) consists of a cloudy, translucent plastic carrier material, preferably of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) or of polycarbonate (PC). The base body of the reflector can be produced from such a carrier material, in particular by hot deformation, and is then vapor-coated on its inside facing the lamp with a partially transparent reflection layer. Evaporation is usually carried out in a vacuum, the evaporated amount of the coating material, for example aluminum, specifying the thickness of the reflection layer. Ultimately, this also allows the proportions of the reflected and transmitted light to be determined.

When the light source (3) is switched on, the light emanating from it is thus predominantly reflected onto a usable surface by means of the reflection layer, so that a good lighting efficiency of the luminaire is guaranteed. The remaining portion of the light reaches the clouded carrier material through the reflective layer which is partially vapor-permeable in the visual wavelength range. This scatters the residual light within the luminaire housing onto the covers, which thus appear uniformly illuminated in a technically satisfactory manner. Since the reflector does not stand out as a dark shadow, the shape of the lamp is maintained even at night. Depending on the clouding of the translucent carrier material used and the permeability of the reflection layer, the visual appearance at night can be optimized and adapted to the day's impression. In any case, a sufficiently high proportion of directed light remains on the usable area to be illuminated.
