Definitions
- the invention relates to a corner protection rail (hereinafter referred to as "rail") for plaster and is mainly, but not exclusively, intended for exterior plastering, namely for plastering the outside corners of buildings.
- the rail has the features mentioned in the preamble of claim 1.
- the metal sheet to be used for this purpose is preferably made of stainless steel or galvanized iron. Aluminum or light metal are less suitable because of their larger expansion coefficients.
- a known rail of this type is bent from sheet metal so that a continuous corner bead is formed and that its two legs enclose an acute angle, namely an angle of approximately 80 °.
- the outer edges of the legs touch the masonry, while the corner bead protrudes from the edge of the brick corner.
- First a layer of base plaster is applied to the masonry and the rail, namely with the help of a pull-off bar or grooming brush, which is moved upwards on the corner bead.
- Basic plaster penetrates through the holes in the legs into the interior between the rail and masonry, but the corner bead still remains free of plaster.
- top plaster is applied, which should also cover the corner bead, which is not always the case, however, because the mortar adheres poorly to the sheet metal of the rail. In some places the corner bead is still protruding or is only slightly covered so that moisture penetrates and leads to the corridor of a rail made of galvanized iron sheet.
- Such rails have another major disadvantage: If they are struck or hit by a vehicle, they bend over a larger length range, with the result that the plaster comes off. Such flaws can then no longer be properly repaired by plastering alone. Rather, the plaster must be removed a little along the corner rail, then the corresponding piece of rail must be cut out and replaced by a piece of new rail of the same length, whereupon the base plaster and top plaster must be brought back on. A time consuming and costly process.
- the present invention is to provide a rail of the type mentioned, the corner bead securely holds the plaster and mortar and can be reliably covered when the plaster is applied. Furthermore, the rail should only undergo deformations in a relatively small area in the event of impact loads against the corner bead, so that the damage can be remedied by a new piece of finishing plaster alone, in particular a part of the rail itself does not need to be replaced.
- plaster already penetrates into the inside of the corner bead when removing, namely in the holes between the knobs, but also in the area below the knobs.
- the base plaster emerging in the holes provides sufficient support for the top plaster, even for the areas outside the knobs.
- the knobs are covered by mortar sweat, ie by water that is enriched with plaster mortar components. This also contributes to a reliable adherence of the plaster outside of the knobs.
- the rail is reliably embedded in the plaster over its entire length. This prevents corrosion of rails made of galvanized iron sheet.
- a pull-off strip held at right angles to the rail always has a hold on at least one knob. If it is just above a hole in one leg, it has a hold on the nub of the corner bead. If it is located over a hole in the corner bead, then it has a grip on a knob on the leg. This prevents the risk of the pull-off bar penetrating into the recesses in the rhythm of the knobs and holes in the corner bead and thighs, thus creating a wavy plaster surface.
- knobs are designed according to claim 4 so that they protrude with a point in the adjacent holes, they offer a particularly good hold for the plaster pressed into the rail.
- a rail 1 is made of stainless steel or galvanized iron sheet, which has the function of a corner protection rail.
- the rail has a central row of holes 4 and two outer rows of holes 6. These holes are punched while the rail material is still flat. Then three round bends are made in a drawing press. A round bend in the area of the row of holes 4 results in a corner bead 8 and two legs 2 of the rail which are mirror images of one another. In the areas of the two rows of holes 6 there are two outer beads 10.
- the corner bead and the two outer beads each consist of a row of knobs 12 and 14.
- the legs 2 of the rail form a right angle overall in cross section .
- the holes 4 and 6 have the shape of an eight in cross section. This results in knobs 12 and 14 which each protrude into the holes with a point. Since the knobs were pressed out against the legs by the round bends, they are further out in the position of use than the legs and thus hold the basic plaster pressed through the holes.
- FIG. 2 does not show the knobs 14 in its rearward leg on its left side.
- the holes 4 and 6 and thus also the knobs 12 and 14 are arranged offset from one another in the longitudinal direction of the rail.
- the top plaster 20 is applied, which completely covers the base plaster and the rail. Then it is reworked with a washer ("added"), so that there is a smooth outer surface of the base plaster.
- the corner bead 8 can be covered by a plastic profile, which is necessary if scratch plaster is to be applied.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a corner protection rail (hereinafter referred to as "rail") for plaster and is mainly, but not exclusively, intended for exterior plastering, namely for plastering the outside corners of buildings. The rail has the features mentioned in the preamble of
The metal sheet to be used for this purpose is preferably made of stainless steel or galvanized iron. Aluminum or light metal are less suitable because of their larger expansion coefficients.
A known rail of this type is bent from sheet metal so that a continuous corner bead is formed and that its two legs enclose an acute angle, namely an angle of approximately 80 °. After the rail has been attached to a brick corner by nails or adhesive mortar, the outer edges of the legs touch the masonry, while the corner bead protrudes from the edge of the brick corner. First a layer of base plaster is applied to the masonry and the rail, namely with the help of a pull-off bar or grooming brush, which is moved upwards on the corner bead. Basic plaster penetrates through the holes in the legs into the interior between the rail and masonry, but the corner bead still remains free of plaster. After the base plaster has set, a layer of top plaster is applied, which should also cover the corner bead, which is not always the case, however, because the mortar adheres poorly to the sheet metal of the rail. In some places the corner bead is still protruding or is only slightly covered so that moisture penetrates and leads to the corridor of a rail made of galvanized iron sheet.
Such rails have another major disadvantage: If they are struck or hit by a vehicle, they bend over a larger length range, with the result that the plaster comes off.
The present invention is to provide a rail of the type mentioned, the corner bead securely holds the plaster and mortar and can be reliably covered when the plaster is applied. Furthermore, the rail should only undergo deformations in a relatively small area in the event of impact loads against the corner bead, so that the damage can be remedied by a new piece of finishing plaster alone, in particular a part of the rail itself does not need to be replaced.
This object is achieved by the invention according to
Through the holes inside the corner bead, plaster already penetrates into the inside of the corner bead when removing, namely in the holes between the knobs, but also in the area below the knobs. When applying the top plaster, the base plaster emerging in the holes provides sufficient support for the top plaster, even for the areas outside the knobs. Furthermore, when applying the base plaster, the knobs are covered by mortar sweat, ie by water that is enriched with plaster mortar components. This also contributes to a reliable adherence of the plaster outside of the knobs. The rail is reliably embedded in the plaster over its entire length. This prevents corrosion of rails made of galvanized iron sheet. When the plastered corner is subjected to impact stress, only some of the knobs in the corner bead bend, while the rail as a whole essentially retains its original shape, which simplifies repairs.

result from the subclaims.
According to
If, according to claim 3, the knobs in the corner bead and the outer beads are offset from one another in the longitudinal direction, then a pull-off strip held at right angles to the rail always has a hold on at least one knob.
If the knobs are designed according to claim 4 so that they protrude with a point in the adjacent holes, they offer a particularly good hold for the plaster pressed into the rail.

- Figure 1 is a horizontal cross section along line I - I in Figure 2 through a wall corner, the base plaster with the rail embedded therein and the exterior plaster. The rail is shown in all figures in a little more than natural size.
- FIG. 2 is a simplified side view of the rail alone along line II-II in FIG. 1.

The
For the sake of clarity, FIG. 2 does not show the
To plaster a corner of
After the
To cut the rail to length, it is sufficient to cut through the edges of the two legs. If the rail is then bent over a corner, it breaks through at the intended location.
If the rail lying in the plaster is damaged by impact, the rail as a whole is not bent, but only
In a manner known per se, the
