  • the charging properties are "N” when the final image includes spots, while the cleaning properties are "N” when a stripe or stripes are produced on the image in the direction of the photosensitive member movement. These are easily observed when a solid black image is formed, in the case of a regular development.

  • the charging properties were not influenced by materials of the photosensitive member.
  • the experiments were conducted in the following step. At first, the contact angle of the charging blade ⁇ 2 was fixed 0 degrees, whereas the contact angle ⁇ 1 of the cleaning blade is changed in the range of 10 - 50 degrees, and the charging and cleaning properties were investigated. Next, the contact angle ⁇ 2 was increased with increment of 5 degrees, and the contact angle ⁇ 1 was changed in the range of 10 - 50 degrees for each incremented angles, and the charging and cleaning properties were investigated. It was confirmed that the charging blade is practically usable when the contact angle ⁇ 2 thereof is not less than 20 degrees, but it is not practically usable due to the insufficient charging properties if it is not less than 25 degrees.
  • the cleaning operation by the cleaning blade 6A disposed upstream of the contact charging blade 2 with respect to the movement direction of the surface of the photosensitive member becomes insufficient for one reason or another with the result that the residual matter reaches the contact charging blade 2.
  • the contact charging blade 2 can function as an additional cleaning blade, since it is counter-directionally contacted to the surface of the photosensitive member, so that the residual matter is prevented from entering the charging region by the contact charging blade 2 to the photosensitive member, so that the good charging properties can be maintained with the advantage of ensuring the cleaning of the photosensitive member surface.
  • the cleaning blade is effective to substantially completely remove the residual matter from the photosensitive member 1, and there is no residual matter at the contact portion between the charging blade and the photosensitive member
  • the charging blade 2 may be contacted to the photosensitive member co-directionally with the movement direction of the photosensitive member surface.
  • the contact angle of the charging blade relative to the photosensitive member which is smaller than 90 degrees is formed at the upstream side of the contact portion between the photosensitive member 1 and the charging blade 2 with respect to the movement direction of the photosensitive member surface.
  • the cleaning blade is not limited to the one counter-directionally contacted to the photosensitive member, but it may be co-directionally contacted.
  • the charging blade and the cleaning blade are integrally supported and covered by the process cartridge, and therefore, the charging operation is prevented from being influenced by the dust or foreign matter which otherwise deposited on the photosensitive member after the photosensitive member is cleaned by the cleaning blade.
  • the frictional coefficient of the cleaning blade is equal to or smaller than the frictional coefficient of the charging blade, the durability of the charging blade is smaller than that of the cleaning blade.
  • the durability of the charging blade can be made substantially equal to that of the cleaning blade. This is preferable, since both of the blades are provided in a cartridge detachably mountable into a main assembly, the cartridge may be exchanged with a new one when both of the blades come to the respective ends of the service lives which are substantially equal. Further, when an image bearing member is disposed in the cartridge, the service lives of blades are preferably equivalent to that of the image bearing member.
  • Figures 9A, 9B and 9C show various examples of supports of the contact charging blade 2 (or the cleaning blade 6A) by supporting members 100.
  • Figure 9A shows an example wherein the blade is sandwiched by supporting members 100;
  • Figure 9B shows an example wherein the blade is bonded to the support;
  • Figure 9C shows an example wherein the blade is integrally supported by molding or by metal member.
  • the frictional coefficient of the contact charging member to the image bearing member is smaller than that of the cleaning member, by which the damage or wearing of the image bearing member or the charging member is not significant, the state of contact can be stabilized, so that the charging action is also stabilized to provide a good image.
  • the service lives of the contact charging member and the cleaning member can be made substantially equal, and this is particularly advantageous when a process cartridge contains both of the blades.

Claims (14)

  1. Bilderzeugungsvorrichtung mit
    einem bewegbaren Bildträgerteil (1),
    einem Reinigungsteil (6A) in Form einer Klinge, das das Bildträgerteil zu dessen Reinigung berührt, und
    einem Ladeteil (2) in Form einer Klinge, das das Bildträgerteil an einer Stelle stromab des Reinigungsteils in bezug auf die Bewegungsrichtung des Bildträgerteils berührt und auf eine daran angelegte Spannung durch Laden des Bildträgerteils anspricht,
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
    der Reibungskoeffizient zwischen dem Ladeteil und dem Bildträgerteil geringer als der Reibungskoeffizient zwischen dem Reinigungsteil und dem Bildträgerteil ist.
  2. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, in der das Ladeteil das Bildträgerteil unter einem ersten Berührwinkel berührt und das Reinigungsteil das Bildträgerteil unter einem zweiten Berührwinkel berührt, der größer als der erste Berührwinkel ist.
  3. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 2, in der der Berührwinkel des Ladeteils relativ zum Bildträgerteil nicht mehr als 20 Grad beträgt.
  4. Vorrichtung nach irgendeinem vorangehenden Anspruch, in der der Berührwinkel zwischen dem Ladeteil und dem Bildträgerteil in der Bewegungsrichtung des Bildträgerteils in bezug auf das Ladeteil stromab des Berührungsabschnitts zwischen den beiden Teilen ausgebildet ist.
  5. Vorrichtung nach irgendeinem vorangehenden Anspruch, in der der Berührwinkel zwischen dem Reinigungsteil und dem Bildträgerteil in der Bewegungsrichtung des Bildträgerteils in bezug auf das Reinigungsteil stromab des Berührungsabschnitts zwischen den beiden Teilen ausgebildet ist.
  6. Vorrichtung nach irgendeinem vorangehenden Anspruch, in der das Ladeteil aus Gummi besteht.
  7. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 6, in der das Ladeteil eine Schmierbeschichtung (22) aufweist, die das Bildträgerteil berührt.
  8. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 7, in der die Schmierbeschichtung aus Nylonharz besteht.
  9. Vorrichtung nach irgendeinem vorangehenden Anspruch, die ferner eine Haltevorrichtung (7) zum einteiligen Halten des Ladeteils und des Reinigungsteils aufweist, wobei die Haltevorrichtung abnehmbar an einem Bilderzeugungsgerät befestigt werden kann.
  10. Vorrichtung nach irgendeinem vorangehenden Anspruch, wobei die Vorrichtung die Form einer Einschubeinheit (7) hat, die abnehmbar an einem Hauptaufbau eines Bilderzeugungsgeräts befestigt werden kann.
  11. Bilderzeugungsgerät mit einer Bilderzeugungsvorrichtung nach irgendeinem vorangehenden Anspruch.
  12. Bilderzeugungsgerät nach Anspruch 11, das eine Spannungsanlege-Vorrichtung (E, 25) zum Anlegen einer Wechselspannung an das Ladeteil enthält.
  13. Gerät nach Anspruch 12, in dem die Wechselspannung durch Überlagerung einer Gleichspannung und einer Wechselspannung erzeugt ist.
  14. Gerät nach Anspruch 12 oder 13, in dem die Wechselspannung eine Spitze-Spitze-Spannung hat, die nicht geringer als das Doppelte des Absolutwertes einer Ladeanfangsspannung für das Bildträgerteil ist.
