Claims (5)

  1. An apparatus, more particularly an open-width washing machine, for treating an endless article such as a textile web, the apparatus having: a number of top deflecting rollers (10, 12, 14), at least one of which has a drive (16, 18, 20); a number of bottom deflecting rollers (22, 24, 26, 28, 30); and a pneumatically or hydraulically adjustable compensating roller (32) which is disposed on the input side and adjusts the required tension in the article being treated; at least one of the deflecting rollers having means (34) for measuring the force exerted by the article on such roller, the or each drive (16, 18, 20) of the or each top roller being adjusted in dependence upon the measured force, characterised in that an undriven deflecting roller (30) which is disposed on the output side has the means (34) for measuring the force applied by the article to the latter roller, and a control system (36) for controlling the or each deflecting roller drive (16, 18, 20) by comparison of a set value corresponding to the pneumatic or hydraulic actuation of the compensating roller (32) with the force measured by the means (34) at the deflecting roller (30) on the output side is provided, the control system (36) having: a set value input (36) acted on by a signal corresponding to the pneumatic or hydraulic pressure acting on the compensating roller (32); and an actual value input acted on by a signal corresponding to the pressure exerted by the article on the deflecting roller (30) on the output side.
  2. An apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the control system (36) is a thyristor feed device.
  3. An apparatus according to any of the previous claims, characterised in that the pressure acting on the compensating roller (32) is adjusted by way of an adjustable pressure reducer (42), a pressure-to-current converter (44) producing by way of a matching amplifier (46) the signal supplied to the first set value input of the control system (36).
  4. An apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the pressure acting on the compensating roller (32) is adjusted by way of a potentiometer (48) connected to the set value input (38), a matching amplifier (50) and a current-to-pressure converter (52) being provided.
  5. An apparatus according to any of the previous claims, characterised in that the means (34) take the form of force-measuring bearings.
