Abstract

Ein Ionentriebwerk für Objekte im Weltraum, vorzugsweise in Form von Raumfahrzeugen (1), weist in einer sonnenbestrahl­ ten Fläche des Raumfahrzeugs Oberflächenzonen (20₁ bis 20n) mit leicht ablösbarem und ionisierbarem Material (3) in Form von kleinsten Partikeln, wie vorzugsweise Staubpartikeln, oder in Form von entsprechend leicht verdampfbarem Gas in einer ausreichenden Menge auf. Bei dieser Ausbildung eines Ionentriebwerks werden dann von der sonnenbestrahlten Fläche (10) Photoelektronen freigesetzt, welche vor dieser Fläche (10) eine Raumladung (4) und damit ein Potential zwischen der Fläche (10) und der Raumladung (4) aufbauen, und welche das durch elektrostatische Kraftwirkung aus den Oberflächen­ zonen positiv ionisierte und durch das Potential abgelöste Material in einer für einen benötigten Schub erforderlichen Menge beschleunigen.
