Abstract
Description
The invention relates generically to a sheet-like, vegetation-inhibiting floor covering that has a plastic film made of polyurethane or preferably high-density polyethylene. Such plastic films have z. B. a thickness of 80 microns or more and a web width of about one meter. - Such vegetation-inhibiting floor coverings have long been used in a wide variety of areas of agriculture and technology.
In particular, such floor coverings are also used along highways, e.g. B. below the guardrails. The guardrails are supported by supports that are four meters apart, and the floor coverings have to cut out the supports.
The generic floor coverings known from practice are sometimes weighted with stones for the purpose of wind protection. Nevertheless, there are significant disadvantages. On the one hand, destruction of the plastic film is observed over time due to the influence of sunlight, especially the ultraviolet component in sunlight, on the other hand, the wind reaches under the areas between the stones, which are only singularly placed. The destruction of films by ultraviolet rays is based on the associated strong acceleration of the oxidation of the polymers, which has the effect of breaking the molecular chains. However, the integrity of the plastic film is an essential prerequisite for the vegetation-inhibiting effect of the generic floor coverings. The resistance of the known floor coverings to Sunlight and in particular ultraviolet rays and their wind protection are therefore insufficient, which manifests itself in a short standstill.
The object underlying the invention is to further develop a generic floor covering so that it is windproof and sufficiently resistant to sunlight and in particular ultraviolet rays.
To achieve this object, the invention teaches that a bituminous protective layer against sunlight, in particular ultraviolet rays, is applied to the surface of the plastic film, which at the same time is designed as an adhesive layer, and that the adhesive layer also fixes a wind protection layer made of specifically heavy bulk material on the plastic film . - Floor coverings of several layers, in which an uppermost layer consists of heavy bulk material for wind protection and the bulk material is fixed by a binder, are known per se (DE-OS 35 15 144). However, it is not the sheet-like floor coverings with plastic film as the bottom layer. In the known embodiment, the bottom layer is a cardboard layer, which is impregnated with a herbicide, but should weather and after z. B. two vegetation periods of grass should grow through, which is then easily mowed.
The invention is based on the knowledge that the bituminous protective layer can have a double function. Surprisingly, on the one hand it achieves effective protection of the plastic film against sunlight, in particular against ultraviolet rays, but on the other hand it also holds a wind protection layer made of specifically heavy bulk material on the Plastic film firmly. It is understood that the plastic film is impermeable to water to inhibit vegetation. The protective layer preferably consists of road bitumen, which has proven itself as a binder in road construction, but according to the invention also functions as a protective layer. Road construction bitumen is advantageous because of its dark color because it serves as a good absorber in the sense of its protective function against ultraviolet rays according to the invention. If the ground covering is to be used in forest areas, it is advisable to add fire-retardant substances to the road construction bitumen. To improve the binder function of the protective layer, the road bitumen can be alloyed with one or more elastomers. In both cases, the protective layer is expediently applied as an emulsion. When broken, it preferably has a weight of approximately 0.4 kg /
Another preferred embodiment of the invention is characterized in that a layer of paint is applied to the wind protection layer and a cover made of glass balls is applied thereon. It is recommended that the glass balls, which have a diameter of about 1 mm, in the densest ball packing, e.g. B. from at least two layers. If you work with a cover made of glass balls, the result is an additional, considerable advantage. The glass balls contribute to wind protection on the one hand, but also cause light reflection at night, which makes the edge strips visible in the headlights of a motor vehicle.
It is also particularly advantageous that the floor covering according to the invention can be easily optimized in terms of laying technology. To avoid the formation of a gap between adjacent webs of the floor covering, the long sides of the plastic film can be provided with overlap seams, which can additionally contain connecting recesses. These overlap seams can also be used as edge reinforcement due to the foil underside. It is understood that the plastic film of a floor covering according to the invention can also have transverse folds.
In the following, the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to a drawing showing only one embodiment.

In the figure, a web-shaped, vegetation-inhibiting floor covering 1 can be seen in a perspective view.
