Description

The invention relates to a dental treatment chair with an adjustable headrest according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a treatment chair is known from DE-A-3 347 255.

Various designs have become known in an effort to adapt the headrest of a dental treatment chair in its movement sequence to the natural nodding movement of a patient in the various treatment settings, primarily in the treatment of the upper and lower jaw on the seated or lying patient.

From US-A-45 15 406 a construction is known in which a support member carrying the headrest, often referred to in technical terms as a "headrest sword", is designed as a circularly curved narrow plate with a center of circle which is approximately in the cervical vertebral joint of a Patient sitting in chair. The curved plate is guided in a slide that can be adjusted along the backrest and can be moved in and out of the slide or out of the backrest by means of a hydraulic cylinder drive. The circular arc guide of the carrier plate and the longitudinal guide of the slide are comparatively complex on the one hand; on the other hand, they require a relatively thick backrest construction in order to be able to accommodate the parts, in particular the curved plate, in the interior of the backrest in the retracted state. Every attempt to make the backrest thinner in this area, which is desirable in order to be able to position the patient's head as deeply as possible in the full position, but still sufficient Having knee room for the practitioner would lead to a restriction of the kinematics and thus a limitation of the positioning options.

From DE-A-25 41 506 a construction is known in which the headrest has an intermediate piece which is provided with a curved track which, viewed from the side of the headrest, has sections which are curved in opposite directions in the manner of a shaft. The cam track is guided in a guide provided on the backrest, the intermediate piece for effecting an adjustment of the headrest being connected with its end facing away from the headrest to a pulling or pushing device arranged on the backrest. The guidance of the curved path is formed by a horizontal rod arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the backrest, on which the intermediate piece with the curved path rests. The horizontal bar is rotatably mounted. The end of the intermediate piece facing away from the headrest is pivotable and longitudinally displaceable in a carriage carried by the backrest, which is adjusted by a further pulling or pushing device.

In this known construction, too, the legroom of the practitioner is restricted when the treatment position is lying down. Another disadvantage is the fact that the adjustment is less favorable than in the construction mentioned above.

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the object to provide an improvement, in particular with the aim of designing the kinematics of the headrest so that an optimal adaptation to the natural pitching movement of the head of a patient in the various treatment positions, especially for treatment of the upper and lower jaw on the seated and lying patient is given, which ultimately means that the headrest should be adjustable in as wide a range as possible following the natural pitching movement of the head. The spatial dimensions for such a headrest adjustment device should be as small as possible.

An important advantage of the solution according to the invention is that, due to the parallelogram-like linkage, when the headrest is tilted, an opposing tilting movement occurs, as a result of which an optimal adaptation to the natural head movement of a patient and a very wide adjustment range for the headrest is achieved. After all the parts for generating the kinematics are outside the backrest housing and largely inside the headrest housing, the backrest itself, since it only has to have a simple straight guide for the very narrow and thin headrest support part, can be made very thin.

The solution to the problem is specified in the characterizing features of claim 1.

Die Kopfstütze 7 enthält zwei schalenförmige Gehäuseteile, ein Unterteil 8 und ein die Kopfstützenpolsterung aufnehmendes Oberteil 9.Fig. 1 shows a simplified representation of a dental treatment chair, in which in a known manner a base part 1 is held by an adjusting device 2, not shown in detail, a chair top 5 consisting of a seat 3 and a backrest 4 is adjustable in height. A headrest 7 is supported on the backrest 4 by means of a carrier part 6 so as to be adjustable in the direction of its longitudinal extension. The headrest 7 contains two shell-shaped housing parts, a lower part 8 and an upper part 9 receiving the headrest padding.

Die Fig. 2 zeigt die Kopfstütze 7 mit abgenommenem Oberteil 8 schräg von vorne, also in einer leicht perspektivischen Darstellung.2 shows the headrest 7 with the upper part 8 removed obliquely from the front, that is to say in a slightly perspective representation.

In the lower housing part 8, two guide rods 10 extending in the longitudinal direction of the headrest are rigidly fastened, on which ball bushings 11 are guided in an adjustable manner. The ball bushings 11 are rigidly connected to one another by means of a traverse 12 arranged transversely to the longitudinal axis of the headrest. On the cross member 12, a clamping piece 13 is fastened, with which the cross member 12 can be coupled with a toothed belt 14 and thus with the ball bushings 11. The toothed belt 14 is part of an electric motor drive which contains a motor 15 installed transversely in the lower end of the headrest and a guide roller 16 arranged at the opposite end.

A driver 17 is rigidly fastened in the center to the crossbar 12 and extends through the headrest housing through a recess 18 which is likewise provided in the center of the headrest and forms an articulated connection 21 there with a linkage arm 20 (FIG. 3). The link arm 20 is plate-shaped; the end opposite the joint 21 forms a further joint 22 with the headrest support part 6.

Die Fortsätze 25, und damit der Gestängearm 23, bilden im Bereich der Knickstelle mit den Kugelbuchsen 11 eine weitere Gelenkverbindung 30.23 with an approximately the width of the headrest corresponding further plate-shaped link arm is designated forms a hinge connection 24 on the carrier part 6 and has a narrow extension 25 on both sides at the opposite end, which, as can be seen in FIG. 4, is hook-shaped. The two extensions 25 engage through slots 26 provided in the headrest lower part 8 and carry at their ends rollers 27 which are supported on oblique guideways 28 which are firmly fastened to the headrest lower part 8. The extensions 25, and thus the link arm 23, form a further joint connection 30 in the region of the kink with the ball bushings 11.

As can be seen from FIG. 4, the two link arms 20, 23 form a linkage similar to the linkage 22, 24 and 21, 30; in contrast to a real parallelogram linkage, in which the joint distances are the same, the joint distance here is different. Thus, the joint distance b of the upper joint connections 21, 30 is approximately twice as large as the distance a of the lower joint connection 22, 24. The resulting "distorted" parallelogram makes it possible for the headrest to be pivoted backwards (see dash-dotted line) 5) executes a counter-pivoting in the area of the headrest. The headrest therefore does not perform a pure parallelogram or swivel movement, but a mixed movement of the two.

From the construction shown it can be seen that the two ball bushings are moved along the guide rods 10 in the case of a drive via the toothed belt 14 via the crossbar. This also adjusts the parallelogram arms 20, 23, the two rollers 27 being supported on the inclined guideway 28 and thus adjusting the headrest in the manner described. The slope and shape of the curved path 28 determine the relationship between the pivoting movement and the longitudinal displacement and thereby the desired curve 32, shown in broken lines in FIG. 5. This curve corresponds to an arc, the center of which is in the area of the cervical spine of a patient in the chair. A head support point P assumed on the headrest accordingly does not perform a pivoting movement about the articulation points 22/24 in accordance with the circular arc 31 shown in dashed lines, but rather a movement in accordance with the curve 32 shown in dashed lines.

Although the construction shown is particularly advantageous, different variants are possible with regard to the drive and the linkage design. Thus, instead of the toothed belt, a spindle drive can be provided and the two link arms can also be designed in the otherwise usual rod construction instead of the plate-shaped configuration described. There is also a drive in the backrest area, e.g. inside the backrest, conceivable and the adjustment, as described, via a cable or a toothed belt. It is particularly advantageous, in particular for hygienic and also for optical reasons, to provide the entire rear side, that is to say the lower part of the headrest, with an elastic covering 33 which has a bellows-shaped extension 34 in the region of the linkage. The cover 33 advantageously also extends over the switches 35 (see Fig. 3) located on the top of the headrest, i.e. the actuators of the switches 35 are covered by the coating. It is particularly advantageous if the actuating elements have already been taken into account in the design of the cover, that is to say have already been incorporated in the cover.
