Claims (5)

1. Device for clamping and holding elements to be joined together by glueing, stapling, nailing or riveting, consisting of a ribbon (1) wound at one end on a spool (2) and fixed at its other end on a control shaft (3), the assembly being mounted in a protective housing (4), and of pick-up and positioning members (5) at the corners, characterised in that the control shaft (3) is a disengageable shaft surmounted by a control button (6) which can be shifted on said shaft (3) and can be locked in various shift positions on this shaft (3), this control button (6) also being provided with a toothed pinion (7) capable of cooperating, in one shift position of the button (6), with a pinion (a) integral with the split shaft (9) of the spool (2) for winding the ribbon (1) and, in another shift position of the button (6), with a spring (11)-Ioaded ratchet (10), the ribbon (1) wound on the spool (2) traversing the control shaft (3) which is split for this purpose so as to form a loop (14) issuing from the housing (4).

Device according to claim 1 , characterised in that the control shaft (3) is provided, at its end turned toward the control button (6), on the one hand, with a male claw coupling means (13) co-operating with a female claw coupling means (13') of corresponding shape and, on the other hand, above the means (13) in the direction of the button (6), with a hub (15) for guiding the button (6), and the ratchet (10) is mounted on the wall of the housing (4) on the side of the means (13) of the shaft (3).

Device according to any one of claims 1 and 2, characterised in that the pinion (8) of the shaft (9) of the spool (2) advantageously extends above the ratchet (10) at a distance therefrom at least equal to the thickness of the pinion (7) of the button (6) and the button (6) is either loaded by a spring tending to hold it in one of its extreme positions on the hub (13) of the shaft (3) or is provided with a means (16) for stopping in position on the hub (15) in each intermediate shift position on the shaft (3), such as a springloaded ball-type latching element or the like.

Device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the strands of the loop (14) issuing from the housing (4) are guided between a spreader element (17), forming part of the housing (4) and simultaneously forming a pick-up and positioning angle for a corner of the elements to be joined together, and two cylinders (18) integral with the housing (4) such that each strand passes between a cylinder (18) and the element (17) and, at the outlet of the strands of the loop (14), the housing is additionally provided with a multiple recess (19) consisting of several segments at different inclinations to the face of the housing and allowing the support of elements which are to be butt-jointed at various angles.
5. Device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the spool (2) is loaded by a leaf spring (21) for holding the ribbon (1).
